Yes, basically that is correct. Why TiVo discontinued the XL is beyond me, I think they should have kept the XL and given it an upgrade to 2TB and kept the price the same. My guess is they do not have enough OTA customers to justify keeping two models in production. And the fact that so many owners upgrade their own HDD to 2TB anyway, using the base Premiere.
Both the Premiere and Premiere XL have 2 Cable Tuners, Analog or Digital & 2 ATSC OTA Tuners, capable of using any combination of 2 at the same time.

You can easily upgrade the Internal HDD on the regular Premiere to a 2TB HDD, TiVo uses the 2TB

in their XL4, and that is the HDD I used to upgrade my Premiere.
