I'm having the same problem with a Pronto. I tried playing with the code length and still can't get it to stop skipping to the end if I hit the 30 sec skip too quickly.

The way to know that it's your remote is to try the same thing with the original remote. 99% it will work just fine with the original remote.

Like Aaron, I have been using the 30-second skip for years with no problem; but I have heard of others who experienced an issue similar to the one you mention (see TivoCommunity). Not sure what to make of it.

The backdoor 30-sec skip survives past a reboot, just as it used to with the S3s. Enter it once and you're good to go. This is true for most of the backdoor codes IIRC.

I do believe the inadvertant skip-to-end happens only with universal remotes, I've not had it happen on my Elite with the Tivo Slide or Glo remotes. I do have 30-sec skip enabled.

But the XL4 has a few features the HD Xl does not. If you hold the advance (30 sec skip) button it will now take you to the end of a recording or to live TV. This is new for me. And of course my remote (or the tivo) seems a bit too glitchy for this feature. If i tap the button it usually takes me 30 secs. if I tap it 3 times it will advance 90 seconds etc. But often if i tap the button it will act as if I am pressing and holding and then take me to the end of the recording.
I had a similar problem with my Harmony remote when I first got it -- a single button press would be interpreted by components as multiple code-sends. I tried playing with the timing settings in the Harmony software but all to no avail. I was ready to return the remote.

While in the Harmony configuration software, I found the link to contact them for support. So I did and wrote them a simple paragraph detailing my problem. In two days I received an EMAIL from one of their support people telling me he fixed the problem -- since the database for your remote is stored on their servers, they have access to all your remote settings. He told me to just connect and update the remote. I have no idea what he did but the remote has worked fine ever since for the last 4 years. So try taking your problem to them.

Not true. A reboot will clear any backdoor codes as far as I am aware.

No rebooting doesnt reset the codes, at least it hasnt on mine and I have rebooted it a few times

Every time my Premiere and Premiere XL4 have rebooted, I have had to reenter the backdoor codes for the real-time clock and "4th FF press returns to play speed" (SPS-88). I can always tell at a glance when a system update has forced a reboot because the time display is gone. Same scenario applies whenever I disconnect the power source (both DVR's are connected to a battery-backup UPS to avoid an unintentional loss of power). Just to test it out, I just now performed a system restart from the help menu on my Premiere and, sure enough, it lost the time display and 4th FF return to play speed settings.

So if your and slowbiscuit's experience is a guide, the SPS-30 code is the exception to the rule and will survive a reboot.

Thanks again to everyone. I switched from scan to skip (which i really prefer - less commercials i see even for a split second, the better) and the problem seems to have stopped. I tried to force the issue, pounding the skip button on live recordings exactly as before and so far no issues whatsoever. i guess this is a fix for people who have this problem and use universal remotes. I will also post on the tivo forum.

Thanks again.

I still don't know why I have never run across this since I use several Harmony One remotes and I use the 30 second scan too. I can hit the skip button a bunch of times quickly, and all that will happen is the time increases up to ten minutes on the amount of show that will be scanned through.

Could have something to do with the Harmony Firmware installed on the remote. Try updating the firmware.

I switched to the SPS30 code and the problem seems to have stopped for me as well.!!

Spring software update rolling out:

My boxes downloaded it yesterday. But I never got a chance to check this morning to see if they had rebooted last night at 2AM.
The patch update was made on mine about 2 or 3 days ago, I did not request it.

I have noticed two changes:

1. When selecting "A" option while in the grid; the order from left to right for the channels listed are; All, MyChannels, and Favorites (whoopee). Guess they could just make it circular, it really does not matter what order they are in.
2. And of course "another bug" - Really TiVo do they not even test this stuff. New Bug: When going into "signal meter" it now freezes after selecting a couple of channels and does not report real results - thus ALL channels now report the same thing for signal strength. Once the signal strength meter is frozen; it becomes frozen in DVR Diagnostics too. The only way I know to fix it, is to unplug reboot.

I really have not notice anything else that has been changed.

They have not yet made any improvements in transport controls OR fixed the funny "mono" sound problem, that so many of us have.

I so not impressed by this update. May I quote you in the TC forum?

Has anyone noticed a few glitches on the Tivo website recently?

For the past 3 weeks, there seems to be an issue with the "more" button. For example, if I browse by category or channel, I am taken to the schedule of the channel I selected, so far so good. But if I click on "more" at the bottom of the page, it takes me back to the homepage ("Find TV Shows") instead of the schedule of the following day, as it used to.

Similarly, if I search a specific show using "Search TV and movies", it takes me to a list of times and channels when the show is playing, but this time if I click on "more", a "Technical difficulties" error message appears, instead of showing the next page.
Has anyone else seen that? I wonder if Tivo is aware of the issue, or if it's a user error on my part confused.gif

They still haven't fixed the occasional mono sound issue when skipping around in playback? Bummer, but typical.

Correct, it still does the same thing - no fix made.

What is this mono sound problem? I don't think I've run across it.

Sometimes the mono sound problem (or “crazed” out of phase) may occur just after using the transport controls (pause, RW, FF etc.) and then when you come back to just “play” the sound will change from 2 channel to mono. In order to fix it you have to pause/play or RW/Play “again” and then it is fine again.

This may happen a few times a day or you can go days and it will not happen.

For me it is most noticeable (when it does it), while attempting to get through commercials.

never heard anyone with this problem, never seen this, never experienced this. when i trick play, audio stays consistent on all my tivos. are you sure its not your other equipment? do you have the correct audio settings in the settings menu? is through a DVR or regular TV? cables?
Never heard of or had the problem either. Of course everything I watch/record is DD5.1 so maybe that's why. smile.gif

HP, I'm curious what "issues" you have with the transport controls? Seems to me they work as well, or better, than the same functions did with the DHG.

I hear it occasionally on my TV (when playing after a skip past commercials), which has good speakers and sound. You'll never hear it on an AVR, so it only affects those that mostly use TVs for audio. I only use my AVR for sports events and movies, everything else I just listen to TV audio with the Tivo.

As Houston said, when it happens you have to immediately pause/continue or just skip back to get stereo again, and if you have good speakers it's obvious when it happens. Otherwise it plays back mono until you skip again.

I have definitely never run into this problem before. It would be very noticeable and very annoying if I had run into it. Although the only box I have connected directly to a Tv is on of my TiVo Minis. My two Elites, OTA only Premiere, and other Mini all go through a receiver. Although I use my OTA only Premiere to take content to my GFs house and it is connected directly to her Vizio HDTV. But I have not encountered that issue on her TV either.

Got a question about 'season pass'.

I'm disappointed that when you create a season pass for a program, it only works on one specific channel (unless you put it in a 'wish list'. Regardless, here's my issue.

I'm trying to record program X. I created a season pass for program X on channel 100. I saw that episodes of program X also appear on channel 200. I went to make another season pass for the same program on channel 200, but when I entered it, it automatically went to program X on channel 100 to modify the wish list. What's up with that?

Is there anyway that I can get episodes of program X from ANY channel that it might appear on? Putting it in a wish list sucks because any program that has any word of the wish list in it's description will get recorded. I don't want to be innundated by tons of stuff I don't want.

Just so we are in sync, you have the exact same program on two different channels with identical metadata. You want the box to make a season pass for both. That should work. If you want to modify only one, you want to modify the selected SP on the selected channel. Right? But you find the other  selected.

I don't think the box is that smart, but I could be wrong. I have (or had) the same issue with SD and HD lineups of duplicate programs. I never tried to make two SP for the same show. I'll try it if I can figure out what it will accomplish.

Suggestion: when you make ANY recording the green "thumbs up" displays. Hit the red "thumbs down" and or turn off suggestions in Setup. It should fix most of the issues, but some will still get through, like The Daily Show on Mondays. Check your To Do List daily. I find the SP, guide, and To Do List don't always communicate as expected.

As a test, I just set up a second SP for a program that appears on two channels. I already had SP for Criminal Minds on channel 2. Reruns are shown on ION, channel 30. Went to the guide and highlighted one of the channel 30 programs, pressed select and went to SP options. One of the options was set up a second SP. It did it no problem. My SP Manager now shows both of them: one for channel 2, one for channel 30.

Do you have suggestions enabled? Did both have the same metadata? Just curious.

I don't use Suggestions. Both the current season on CBS and the syndication on ION have metadata. Not sure what you mean by "same".

By same I mean description or season & episode. Next week is the season end, and the ION being a repeat should be different.

I think, since I have all my SD channels turned off, that automatic selection may be surpressed. I can enable one, set a recording, turn it off, and it will still show in my To Do List.

I get three CBS and two ION channels. I love the Favorites function.
