The Official AVS TiVo "Series4" Premiere topic - Page 86

I finally got my first TiVo yesterday, a Premiere 4 and I am pretty impressed with it. Everything was great until it reset itself while I was looking at the mini guide. It would not respond to any button pushes and then it suddenly reset and the TiVo welcome screen showed up. I did a search on this and it seems nobody can really pinpoint what causes this. I hope I do not have to return this as I bought mine through Amazon and I purchased lifetime service. I hope this is an isolated incident but I might as well buy a large bottle of Tums if TiVo customer support is bas as some say it is.

While I don't have a Premiere I do have a HD and I trust your lockup may have more to do with doing things during your initial testings that may not be done when you get to actually just using your Tivo. I know I never have lockups in daily use and my Tivo has been very reliable. As to your last point, +1.......Tivo support SUCKS rocks! I've been battling with Tivo support for THE LAST MONTH! trying to have them to do one simple task.......add a new channel(Movies!) a FOX sub channel. I've exchanged MANY emails(with a open ticket) with support but they have still not added the channel rolleyes.gifrolleyes.gif This should be a simple task, my initial email stated everything they should have needed but they are still managing to bungle even the simplest task frown.gif
This is my one any only time I've asked them to add a channel and will probably be my last, just too damn frustrating, not worth my time. Next time I'll let some other sucker waste his time trying to talk to a brick......
The fact that I'd even have to ask them to add kind of irks me. I mean this channel was rolled out nationally about a month ago and Movies! website(and Wiki) had a list of all channels who would be broadcasting it. You'd think one of the hundreds of Tivo employees could have taken the initiative to add the channel even before it was started(or at least at the scheduled rollout) but 1 month later and still nothing.

Movies! Was added to my TiVo two days after launch.

All it took way my rant here.......last night Movies was finally added to my lineup.....guess I just needed the right place to complain biggrin.gif
But honestly next time I'll save the aggravation and just wait for Tivo to figure out themselves, couldn't really take longer tongue.gif

I find that a restart every month or so keeps the glitches away. Then again, I use mine as an OTA device, and I suspect many of my glitches are a result of something weird happening with the OTA stations (PSIP, Dropouts, etc) on which I leave the tuners parked.

I checked the logs on the TiVo last night and the TiVo connected to TiVo Service at the time of the reboot. I didn't notice until this morning that I got the MLB.tv link for the TiVo. So I figured the TiVo needed to update. I haven't had any issues since but I did rerun the guided set up because I didn't have my CableCard when I went through guided setup originally.

If you need to update the channel line up do not go through TiVo. Use Zap2It as they are much more responsive. I think Zap2It is run by Tribune Media Services. As soon as they update the listings you should get a notice on the TiVo.

I sent Zap2It an email, asking why there listings were so accurate and TiVo's were not. They answered (from TMS): "Tell Tivo". TiVo does have a form for lineup/channel errors, but not not listing errors. But I gave up and use Zap2It as the final source even though they only go 13 days ahead.

Under the TiVo copyrights you will find TMS for the guide.

I seen Tribune listed and its for the guide data.
Here is a link for the viewers guide for the Premiere 4:

On page 114 it is for Rovi Copy Protection. I forgot that Rovi was Macrovision before they changed their name. I like the last sentence for Rovi "Reverse engineering or disassembly is prohibited."

It is odd that the data would be different as it all comes from the same source. I always use Zap2It to update the channel line up because Windows Media Center uses the same service. I have been updating all of SECV's line ups using Zap2It.

On TiVo, Settings & Messages, Account & System Info, Copyrights and Trademarks. Scroll down to Tribune.

Example of my frustration. On the guide, check ABC, Thursday, 9pm, Motive. OAD is listed as 3/3/13 so it's not "new" for a SP. But it's "new" on Zap2It and the OAD is for Canada. Same issue for U.K. programs. Who do you blame?

I checked both the TiVo and my Windows Media Center guide and they have the same thing you do but as you said on Zap2It it has it as new. WMC guide says its a repeat. Here is some links from Zap2It concerning this show. Notice the air dates:
http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/motive/EP01617803?aid=zap2it
http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/motive-creeping-tom/EP016178030001?aid=zap2it#zc-page-title
http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/motive-against-all-odds/EP016178030004?aid=zap2it#zc-page-title
It appears that the TiVo and WMC guides are correct and Tribunes own site is not even though they come from the same database.

Now here is the "About Us" for Zap2It:
http://www.zap2it.com/services/site/zap-aboutus,0,2987155.story
I seen this happen with Rovi as I would have accurate listings for channels with TVGOS but have blocks of local programming for the same channels with the I Guide. I did ask my contact with Rovi and he told me they should be the same as it comes from the same database. Some body is screwing up somewhere.

I guess I should feel lucky that TMS doesn't cover the moon. That program (and others) are "new" for my zipcode. I guess it's too hard for TiVo to code across midnight or national or international boundaries. I gave up a while ago.

It could be worse. I could bring up cable new's shows or late night TV or (biggrin.gif) The Daily Show. I've adjusted.

Joe are you saying that your TiVo guide is new also. My TiVo and WMC guide does not, the WMC guide say its a repeat, but Zap2It for my zip code says its new. If so then this is completely insane.

I just stumbled across a very recent change to our cable rate schedule. If you look at both our rate schedules you will see that the HD channel package is now $0.00 which used to be $13.00. But they added a new fee at the bottom of the schedule which says this "Rate does not include 3D/HD technology fee of 13.00." Does this mean that they are going to charge everybody for HD and put it in with the fees and tax portion of our bill. That means that our bills will rise by $13.00/month. I also wonder if most of the HD channels will be put in the clear if they intend to charge everybody for them. If this is true then my Pace box goes back on Monday as I will be notified by email of my new bill on Sunday.

Ok.. y'all made me go check my TiVo. Mine shows Thursday 8:00pm ABC "Motive", original air date 3/3/13, NOT indicated as "New". Joe, remember.. "All Cable is local". biggrin.gif

I told you the guide was going to be an adventure. I dropped some stuff last month so I need to wait until next week to see how my bill changes. I show Hd/3d Technology fee at $13 instead of Hi-Definition Package at $13. The bill is too hard to decode right now. I'm sure whatever they do will not help us.

Make that VERY local as Joe is just a 3 to 4 mile drive to my division which is owned by the same cable company. I think we entered the twilight zone as my TiVo and WMC listings are correct.

I will find out Sunday or Monday but I suspect it will result in a rate hike of $13.00 for customer who have classic cable and up. They may make those HD channels in the clear and then you do not need a cable box. I do know that not a lot of people subscribe to HD as they want to keep the free SD cable box. This way it forces people who have HDTVs that have the free SD box hooked to them to either get the HD Pace or just do the in the clear qam channel scan to pick up the channels. At least more people will look at the HD channels. SECV then can eliminate all the SD copies of the HD channels if they want to.

I might have been unclear. The Motive program next Thursday does not show as "new" in the TiVo guide but does on Zap2It. Last night it was listed on tvguide.com instead of the NBA finals also. I give Zap2It an A+, Titantv.com as a B and tvguide.com a C-. Titantv does allow changing the channels to their clear QAM numbers.

My Zap2It guide show it as new also. The bad part is that guide is owned by Tribune Media Services and it is wrong. Go figure!

"New" means "new" to me. Same issue with UK programs like Orphan Black or Canada's Continuum. Anyhow, it's so cute how SE shows HD Tier as $0.0 but you need the Hd/3d Technology fee (shown as a Monthly Charge, not Fee on my bill) for $13. We live in interesting times.

Wait until you start building your SP list and find conflicts that make no sense and can't be fixed. (Defiance)

That what scares me as I suspect it will now show up in the taxes and fees section of our bill but they did not reduce the price of the HD packages by $13 so that means a $13/month increase. This is what my advanced degree in reading between the lines is indicating to me.biggrin.gif

I have 4 season passes set up and 3 are on Sunday night at 9 PM and 10 PM. There will be more added in July as some new HBO shows start.

Orphan Black shouldn't have suffered guide errors, as it isn't a UK show. It's on BBC America, but it wasn't originally shown on UK TV; new episodes premiered in the US and should have been marked as new.

You're right. I dropped the channel last month and only remember it was on after Doctor Who. I even forget why I had an issue with it. The brain is going. Maybe too much television.

Question for TiVo Premiere owners. I have the Premiere 4 and on page 42 of the user manual it states "The channel banner can be displayed in three different sizes. Press the RIGHT arrow cycle through the sizes of the channel banner. Press the LEFT arrow or CLEAR to hide it." I only have the large version and I can not cycle through the different sizes. Was this changed with one of the firmware updates?

Doesn't work here either. Don't remember if it worked in the past. Maybe one of the old timers can answer.

I don't remember for sure, but it seems like that used to work. It must have gone away in an update . . .

Thanks for the feedback. This way I know it is not something wrong with my TiVo. I looked and the user manual I have was released in 2012 so the change must have been made in recent or fall update.

The on screen instructions in Settings>Display>Channel Banner also mention the right arrow to scroll sizes. Doesn't work for me either. There are two different sizes of the banner though: a smaller one when you change channel and a larger one when you push Info. I never noticed that, nor did I realize you can toggle closed captions on/off from that banner. I don't use them so I had no idea. smile.gif

This is how mine works also. You can either hit info or the right arrow button to bring up the large info box. On the Premiere 4 I can change to the other 3 tuners on that screen. It is right above the selection to toggle the captions on and off.

I noticed an error in my guide tonight as it shows the movie Independence Day starting at 8 and ending at 11, then an episode of Longmire at 11 and then Independence Day at 12. But according to Zap2It, an episode of Criminal Minds was on at 8 and the movie Independence Day started at 9 which ends at 12, followed by Criminal Minds, and then Independence Day starting at 1 and ending at 4.
I checked the Rovi I Guide listings on my cable box and they are correct. I hope this is not a common problem on the Tivo as this will stink. My listings also stop at Tuesday July 2nd at 7:30 PM. I have not had a listings update since I set up the TiVo. According to the logs it is successfully connecting to TiVo service. I did get a message from TiVo service about TiVo suggestions today.
Ok I manually ran TiVo service and it fixed the listing error with Independence Day on A&E HD and I now have listings out Friday July 5th 7:30 PM. I this normal for the guide data not to be updated every day?

No, they should update daily. I believe the settings screen will show you the next scheduled update time.. what does that say?
