It is working now.
Thanks for your post, it let me re-examine the settings.
The TivoHD was installed in July 2009 and the LG 55LH90 was added in late September 2009. At that time 5.1 passthru tests displayed the problems posted earlier.
The Sony HDD250 HD DVR DB 5.1 (HDMI2) passthru worked, the Tivo (HDMI1) did not.
Since then after at least 3 Tivo SW upgrades it was worth another test. Now it seems the problem is corrected.
With the Tivo connected to HDMI 4 on the TV, 5.1 passthru to the AVR does show DB 5.1 on Live TV and recorded TV.
That is the good news, there is a minor problem with the Monoprice 4in/2out switcher/splitter where my Tivo is normally connected where the DB 5.1 is often lost.
The work around is to switch the the Monoprice box to an unused input and back to the Tivo which re-establishes the DB 5.1 passtrhu. But that is a problem with the Monoprice not the Tivo.
It seems that upgrading to the Premiere at the Tivo discount is now a safe bet when my current subscription expires next week.
Thanks, you got me on the right track.
