Official Emotiva XPA-5 Owners Thread - Page 34

Just joined the club. Hooked everything up yesterday. Using Onkyo 706 as pre/pro, Paradigm Monitor 9's, etc...

Will be posting new shots when I get off my ass from enjoying this beast.

New pics will be posted here:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1439626/devos-den-version-2-xx

Replaced the red side table with the XPA-5. A good trade-off, I think.

I have noticed a fairly large difference in sound, for the better. Only when playing at very high levels, though. I'm a happy camper. A solid buy.

Please be aware this thing is a beast and quite heavy. It is front heavy so brave the front against your belly and lift the back up. I was able to do the xpa5 by myself without too much trouble smile.gif
How many reps did you do?wink.gif

You'll have to really work some to get the signal lights to move on the XPA-5. smile.gif

(You did get a great deal on a fine amp though)

What are these 'signal lights'? On my Emo amps, the LEDs power on red while the unit is stabilising, or if it detects a fault condition, and then they go blue during normal operation. Have Emo changed something on the XPA series that I am unaware of?

hey K still the same xpa lights.. where you away on vacation? any chance you going to show some pics of your room and absorbers?

cheers

Funny, I looked at that link and it has my set up on there.smile.gif
post #1003 of 1293

The thing is, most amps are 'burly' just as you see there.

Emotiva was talking about a 7 channel XPA amp previously but it looks like it's off the table again as there's been no mention of it for months. That one would be even burlier!
I would be IN for a 200 wpc XPA-7.smile.gif

Probably require a 20 A circuit, and a beefier transformer and power supply, so maybe not an easy thing to whip out. Plus, they've been working on the new XPR line and various other new toys. And of course, they manage to sell more amps (I have an XPA-2 and XPA-5 for my seven-channel system, feed the pig... smile.gif ).

the big new toy is the xpa 1 L will have detials posted at emotiva end of week maybe is the lastest update..

30 watts of pure class A power then switching to a/b power to 250 watts at 8 ohms.. i think i will save up for these to drive my new studio 100s..

cheers

Not a problem I have 4 dedicated 20amp circuits behind my wall unit.

Has anyone got the XPR-5 connected to one of the top of the line Yamaha receivers and or Definitive Technology Speakers? I have an RX-Z11 that I was thinking of pairing up to it. I also own DefTech BP3000, CLR 3000 and BPX2s. Wondering if I am going to get a better sound then from the Yamaha directly. Thoughts?

nice avr.. you will have alot more head room for you speakers and higher volume hence no clipping therefore sound quality improvements.. xpr 5 400 wpc into 8 ohm times 5 nice a bit to much head room
for me.. but that s good equipment..

cheers..

I was wondering... If I had the XPA-5 rated at 200 amps, but had some speakers that were only rated to 150 amps, would it just instantly blow them?

200 watts, not amps. No, it won't harm them at all. Most of the time you'll be loping along at just a few watts anyway. It's only on peaks you're likely to hit anything like full power - and peaks last for very small periods of time. Speakers are rated for their power handling capacity on a continuous signal.  The difference between 150 watts and 200 watts represents about 1.5dB.  I'd say, without knowing the speakers you are considering, that the match between the amp and the speakers would be darn good.

I'm hoping you mean Watts. smile.gif And no, a 200W amp at 8 Ohms will not blow a speaker with a 150W rating. If you drive any speaker to insane levels you can damage it but the general rule is less power to your speakers causes problems, not more.

Oops, I see kbarnes 701 beat me to it.

I think you should find that level for yourself with the new Paradigms. biggrin.gif Then, in the interests of fellow forum members, you can report back. Good Luck.smile.gif

Touch your ears... if your fingers have blood on them, the levels are insane ;)

wow the fedex man came back ... what luck.. thought i heard the door , turn down the volume nothing.. started turning it back up a knock .. wow the amp nice

it was a bit frozen kinda like an ice block..

ive got it all hooked up except for the centre channel speaker..

but i got a red light on the back.. and a yellow one on the front..

waite i press the yellow button it turn blue. and 3 blue lights came on .. is this a good sign???

will it be warming up with the blue lights on? or would it warm up with the yellow light?

i guess i should test it out... see if i blow the circuit breakers..

looking good
