I don't really comment on this forum but I believe I have some helpful comments. I have mentioned about the flickering before and that is why I believe some one asked if the person went into the service menu because after I tried to do a c550 to c590 switch I started to he the lightning and darkening of the picture during certain scenes of movies and shows. I really do enjoy the picture of this tv but I do believe samsung has built better. I sent the first tv back to amazon and got my replacement after ceva lost the replacment tv on the day of my delivery so I had to wait for another replacement tv then I got it and the menu would not work including the all important scroll feature, the picture was awful with the hardware mixing up the settings compared to my first one with stardard picture as movie and movie as standard, the menu had no control over the tv I could turn the cell light all the way down with absolutely no difference in picture and same with picture temp I could turn from cool to warm 2 and there would be no difference. My replacement was worst than my first with the lightening and darkening of the picture during specific moments of darkness during all content (also believe blacks were darker before issue, after they became constantly brighter). I am going for my third set but if it is not perfect I am getting my refund. This is my fourth flat screen in the last three years and this is the worst luck I have ever had with a set. My last tv in which I ordered one for me and later one for my parents was the samsung ln46a650 lcd and despite clouding issues both tvs have worked perfect so I like samsung and the pn50c550 if working correctly is a great upgrade mostly in black levels and uniformity. well hoped that kind of helped.

So i got a new panel, standard color looks better however reds are still bleeding a bit when I play video games and it's being highlighted....

ok let's forget that, main reason why I'm back was because I had a quick question about a function. I saw that it was 600 mhz and when I play games or watch a movie on a blu-ray, I notice that it's goes 60mhz... what's up with that?
if someone can explain this to me or tell me a way to fix this, I would appreciate it.

Sorry, had a couple of drinks and I'm really out of words atm...

Does anyone know if this TV has discrete IR codes for on/off & the various inputs? I use an old MX-500 Home Theater Master to control my system (love it, don't want to get rid of it) and I have to rely on it's ability to LEARN the IR codes. I've used JP1 remotes in the past to setup my discrete codes but I was hoping that Samsung had an easier way to set them up. Any thoughts?

By the way, I'm picking up my 63c550 today. Can't wait to give it a test drive.

Yeah same. Tried all the settings mentioned above and such. Can't get rid of it. I have really only seen it during hockey games. Nothing else. I can live with that. I don't expect much from a crappy compressed cable signal anyway.

I doubt anyone has noticed this as it seems like something I just happened to stumble across. I used my Xbox 360 on my PN58C550 the other day for the first time so I thought I would see what the game mode did so I turned it on. I happened to be playing Red Dead Redemption (not all that important) and was in the menu. There are obviously words in the menu and game mode made these words look awful so I turned it off and planned on not using it. Yesterday I was playing again and didn't turn on game mode at all and went into the menu and noticed the words looked off so I checked my game mode setting and it was indeed set to "off" but I knew it didn't look right. I changed it real quick to on then to off and it fixed it, but the initial setting was set to "off" even though it was processing in game mode! Don't know if anyone else has noticed this or if the TV does this automatically for some reason when it detects a "game" signal? I don't think that is happening. If anyone else has this game (or any I suppose) and TV and would check it out, that would be great. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

The TV is only 60hz, the 600 comes from the number of sub fields multiplied by the 60hz that the TV operates at. (Pioneer Kuro's would have been over 800hz had they done this) it is only marketing numbers to combat hz happy LCD makers. (and all they do is upconvert to higher framerates, they still don't accept them natively)

Wow, you have had you problems with these sets, I feel for you!

I had a 50C550 before moving to a 58C550 and do not experience the light/ darl condition you describe.

If it is tied to the service menu model change then all C590 should suffer from the same problem. I think that hduong22 may be on to something, a setting that causes this...?

In response to my earlier quote here, it appears actually that edge enhancement seems to get applied sometimes when I turn on my Xbox. What I originally thought was game mode was actually the edge enhancement. So it seems that edge enhancement is on then if i go to game mode and turn it off then on that the edge enhancement gets turned off even though it says off the entire time. I know this sounds really strange but I'm really not making this up. Anyone else understand what might be happening? Thanks.

I noticed that on my C450, I'll test if turning it on and off again actually works in a bit.

When you asked amazon for a replacement TV for the flickering did they send a samsung tech to see it first?

Yeah it's really weird. It seems that if I got to my XBOX it turns on edge enhancement somehow even though the TV menu indicates it being off. If i toggle it on then off it goes away. Really strange. Might call level 2 Sammy support today about it.

It didn't work on my set sadly, EE is unbeatable on game mode for my set.

So you're stuck on edge enhancement? I'm talking about with Game mode off. Game mode is nasty.

I know what EE looks like, and I hate it. I just checked and it was off and turning it on and off produced a noticable change so I don't think that the 4 series has this issue. (but it doesn't matter in game mode, it is on regardless of the setting)

Right I hear you on the game mode thing. That was actually what I thought was causing the problem originally but it seems more like EE is on when I put my Xbox on. Weird.

So far I watched several Blu-ray disc and lots of Netflix Streaming and a few VUDU HDX movies and I've been nothing short of pleased with this set. No humming at all.

Hi All,

Just wondering if you could give me a couple of quick pointers on how to run the break in slides properly. I have a Samsung Plasma PN63c590. I know people say that it's not necessary to break the TV in, but I'm moving into my new place in a week so I will not be watching the TV until then, so I figure I may as well use this time to break it in just for the sake of doing it.

1) Is it safe for the TV to leave the TV running for 100+ hours in a row?

2) Is it fine that the images in the slide run for 10 seconds then there's a 1 second black screen before switching to the next slide which runs for 10 seconds? (10 seconds seems to be the maximum amount of time slideshow settings can be adjusted on my c590 samsung)

3) Which picture settings do I need to adjust on the TV? I have the TV set to home mode (NOT torch mode) ... I set the contrast to 50 and the brightness to 50, should I set them lower?

4) Finally, should I have the tv set to Dynamic/Standard or Movie mode?

Thank you very much!!

hi!
Can you confirm that problem with flickering in dark scenes exist in Samsung 50C550 and C530 ?
Problem is widely familiar for PS50B550 and PS50B551 but I didn't find enough information about it in new plasmas.
Only few users wrote few posts but there were only mentions.
Please, any owners of this model, write something about this problem in your samsung.

Thx...

For breaking in with the slides, the settings aren't going to matter much I wouldn't think, as long as you're not torching it. Just make the setting the CNET settings maybe and then adjust once broken in.

Or flatten all the settings (50/100, 5/10, etc.) and let it break it like you've done with contrast and brightness. Once you've broken it in though, dial it in nice and tight. But be leary of some of the settings I've seen posted in this thread Seriously, some are scary.

What are you folks using to mount your panel? I need the slimmest mount possible that will mount between two 16" studs. Looking on monoprice, but not a ton of info in the descriptions. Any insight greatly appreciated.

Ha! Probably means my settings! Which are "scary" and why?

I used this

http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=VRGV63FXMT

If you have one around you and are going to buy this bring the printout from the site. They try to charge you like $80 in the store. Ridiculous.

Haha, I'm not 100% sure about yours, can't remember. I've seen a few doozies. But generally I wouldn't trust the settings that include a lot of sharpness, or wide tint ranges (30/70), or EE on, or Dynamic mode, or blah blah blah. There are a few setting I've seen where I thought, really? Do they look for shadow detail or such? Basically, the CNET settings are pretty close. Sure, all our sets will vary a little, but not so much that they don't even resemble the same TV.

Ultimately, settings can be what ever a person likes... BUT, they really should be as close to the pure source as possible I think.

Hey guys....just purchased the 550 and have a question.

I have the tv hooked up to my onkyo home theater system via HDMI out....my satellite receiver, xbox 360 and ps3 all run through HDMI 1 on the tv.

for some reason only my satellite receiver has hdmi black level greyed out in the picture settings menu.

is this normal or is there something that needs to be changed on my satellite box?

Not quite making sense of this?

One connection to the TV via the Onkyo? Everything going through the A/V receiver?
