I guess that I am tired, the Tv should be on the output from the Onkyo and everything else (360, PS3 and Sat) attached to the inputs of the Onkyo.

If this is the case you should be good to go.

Has anyone registered on samsung.com and checked for firmware upgrades recently? I own a c450 and I'm passing the word my model recently received a firmware upgrade to address buzzing...... if there are owners with buzzers, you might want to register and check to see if they have one for the c550 model as well...
^ Thank you. I'm def looking into this. Fingers crossed with very little hope

Did the firmware actually decrease the buzzing with your C450 ?

I just bought the 58" version, and the darn thing buzzes like a mosquito.

If it can't be fixed, then I'm returning it.

Had my 550 for a month but haven't done any updates to it yet.

Does anyone know what any of the firmware updates have addressed?

All that I see on their web site is a 'PC Share Manager' update.

Thanks

There are no firmware updates yet. What issues need to be addressed?

oh none that I know of ... just curious if there had been any since put into production.

Strange you guys have not had any firmware updates yet....i've downloaded quite a few from the UK Samsung site. TV started off at Firmware 1101.1 and now after the updates it's upto 1106.1

No idea what any of the updates have done though.

Yes that is interesting, the firmware available as of June 15: T-TDT5DEUC-1016.1 has a combination of letters (EUC) that seem to indicate a 'European' version, specific to your market.
Mine (Canada) currently has a firmware level of T-TDT5AUSC-1007.0...

I also find it interesting that certain Samsung sites don't yet list all of the models curently available, for example the UK site doesn't have the PN58C550 listed?

Sadly we dont get the 58" version on sale here in Britain

That is curious, it can't be the actual size because I see that they list 63" sizes.

As for the firmware, I have had very good performance from the PN58C550 I own, at least nothing that I felt needed a firmware fix! (knock on wood).

Mine's PS50C550. The "S" part is for region. "50" for size. "C" for 2010 models range.

Found out my modal after checking the Menu > Support > Contact Samsung.

As for my firmware, it's T-TDT5DAAC-1004.1, gonna update the new firmware soon. *crossing fingers*

*Cant post the link yet* Will update when can to those interested.

Is there a way to utilize the full screen by connecting a pc (as a 2nd monitor)? seems the be smaller than full screen even in max resolution.

Welcome to the AVS Forum!

If your signature noted your location (or it was mentioned in the body of the post) your statement about the firmware might be a bit more relavent.

As for connection as a PC monitor, you should be able to display 1920x1080 ... so I am not sure about the comment about " seems the be smaller than full screen"?

Thx for the welcome.

As PC monitor, display is at 1920x1080 but on the tv it's 1inch smaller on all sides. No settings on menu to change it. Even all modes on P.Mode button.

As for the firmware, no luck on updating yet. I used USB mode to install. Will try to internet mode soon.

Got this while search past year's sites.

As for the firmware, it's uk version. Look under software > firmware. Under www.samsung.com/my, as usual late update or no updates at all (They don't even show this modal at all) *sigh*

That is interesting about the 1" border, unfortunately that is one thing I have yet to do, direct connect a PC to the set... I'll put that on my to-do list!

So from your comment on firmware, you said "I used USB mode to install", but mentioned: "Will try to internet mode soon" So you tried to update via USB, but that didn't work(?) and now you are going to try via the net?

I would recommend staying with the USB process. I see you are in Malaysia with a UK set(?) or trying to put the UK firmware on a set that should have a differnt formware on it?

I would not recommend putting a firmware on for a region that does not match your TV.

Calzane,

Im from Malaysia too. Thre is a new update firmware..i think its dated somewhere May 2010 version (1006 i think).

U need to search for the PS50C550 model in the Samsung Malaysia site...its not listed in the main website main page yet...

I have downloaded but not updated yet...not too confident to go about it yet.

My set also has very slight buzz...its only detectable when very near...and its not that loud or annoying so far.

Been trying to look for description for the new firmware ..but could not find any. Even local samsung tech doesn't have it.

Let us know once u have upgraded successfully and see any improvements in the set.

The firmware (T-TDT5DEUC-1015.1) is also on an Italian website, no identifiable difference noted YET after the firmware was downloaded and updated?

http://www.digital-forum.it/showthread.php?t=101163 I used Goggle to translate

No accompanying release notes on Samsung site, hopefully a firmware will be made available for the US/North America soon.

thx tcb2010.

I found the firmware n successfully upgraded. So far no changes that I've noticed and no description on what is fixed

The only hiccup pre-update was the flickering and color distortion once. I had to turn off the on to reset it. Happened after watching some avi from pc share manager folders then pressing return to menu. After update, been testing whole day to replicate it, so far so good. Not sure it's the update that fix it tho.

Al, could u recommend some so guides on calibration or explain what Chad B's post on page 10. Still new to all the terms like breaking in, IR etc. I'm interested in getting some settings. So far I googled some settings but warm 2 is too warm for my taste. White don't stay white anymore.

My setup -
Wall mount PS50C550G1R
Samsung B2330 monitor
PC with win 7 64bit
Running Ultramon utility to run double screen(great for running games on either screen) *** trial ending in 1 day It works great but time for me to test MutiMon (free)
Wii
External Media Player with Hdmi output *for playing rmvb files etc.
A router

Media.P Mode - play supported videos/song in user folder *without PCSM*
- share folder with PC Share Manger (slightly more flexible in managing folders to watch) ** so far 1 hiccup pre-firmware update

Still hunting for a HT system while saving for it.

Does anyone use these ferrite core things that they give you for the power cable? Do they really do anything?

It's to filter some electrical noise. Usually useful for hifi sound. Don't think it'll matter much for plasma tho.

I'm noticing some artifacts around the ball while watching the World Cup. It only occurs when the ball has been kicked high in the air and the crowd is in the background. It seems like the TV can't keep up with the ball when in front of the crowd. Everything else looks good.

Anyone else seeing this? Is there a setting to improve this?

I've had this with all three flat screens I've owned... I can always fix it with the overscan adjustment on the video adapter. Have you tried this?

Calzane, take a read about this review, most of the topics Chad talks about are also covered in the review and will help make sense of Chad's post.

ISF Review Samsung 2009

As for specfics about IR and break-in, ask away I will do my best to help out.

Hi guys, I just got my PS50C550 TV and I want to share my first impressions so far.

BUZZING!!! It's terrible, clearly audible even with normal viewing and audio set to 20, it's like an electric toothbrush. Definitively a dealbreaker for me, so I'm sending it back for replacement or refund, don't know yet, I still want to play with it a bit cause' of the next issue and to find out if it goes away after a 100hrs of use (burn-in).

The other thing I found that bothers me is a greenish undertone in darker colours, mostly noticable in skintones (at closer inspection I can see lots of green dots dancing around (dithering?) in those areas of the picture, I believe someone mentioned a similar problem in this thread already but no solution). It doesn't seem to be there when picture is set to standard or dynamic so I was wondering if there is a way to remove it in movie mode. I'm currently only using the TV's media player and the picture options there are limited (no white balance or Tint (G/R)).
Would appreciate any suggestions.

I read somewhere someone's unit buzz issue goes down after time but not 100% i think. Mine hardly any buzz unless i put my head near it.

I might b wrong since im new to this but whenever u turn on your unit, it takes awhile to 'warm-up' b4 colors looks better. As for breaking in, im watching full screen avi thru media player with standard setting.

Cel 10, Contrast 70, brightness 45, sharpness 0, color 42, tint g42/r58

wont look so good now but it's my 'play-safe' way to break while watching
