God of War III reviews and impressions - Page 6

Technically, the opening credits recap the first two games, but they are so stylized, you probably wouldn't get that unless you already knew the story. Stylized--and, AWESOME.

I've talked to a couple of other folks at work who have finished 1 & 2 and they vehemently insist that I finish the earlier games. I guess I'll concede and put GofW3 on the shelf and begin the adventure properly. This will be difficult since I already started GofW3. So many games so little time. It's a good thing I regularly survive on 5 hours a sleep a night. So long folks I therefore cannot return to this tread.

I have an original 20gig PS3, and this is the only game with issue (though I had some problems with my Icaris wings in GOW2 on this system).
The strange thing is, if I hold my controller a little closer to my PS3 it seems to work a little better.

I encountered this issue last night. I started playing using DS3 and when I got to a part where you use hook for the first time DS3 wouldn't execute R1, I could read the book and open up the crates but no dice hooking. I then switched to SixAxis and everything was dandy but I don't wanna play without rumble. After switching the controllers back and forth I could even barely move Kratos at one point when using DS3. Weird. I'm on 60gb PS3 btw.

I'm glad I'm not the only one though, I was about to order new DS3 as I thought mine is dying on me or something.

Anyway, just wanted to share this. For now I'm putting this game on a shelf as I'm awaiting my new subwoofer. Epic game! Best graphics I ever saw on a console, just incredible.

I noticed this too. Opened a couple of health chests I didn't need because I thought they might be a Gorgon eye or feather.
Well, in that case, the GEs and PFs are in large chests, and actually don't have the glowing Omega symbol on them. However, they do have white Omega chests that have a mix of orbs, and I can't tell the difference many times between these and the green chests because the green is so faint.

Played for about an hour last night. Got as far as:[spolier]getting Apollo's Bow in the Underworld[/spoiler].

Very impressed. Suitably Epic and making me feel really good about my new Panasonic AMP. The music is great as with it's predecessors. They did such a great job with the graphics on the PS2 that you don't notice how nice this game actually looks on the PS3 (though you do notice at points). Game is incredibly visceral, but combat is oh-so-satisfying. Not all that impressed/interested with the 'first-person beatdown mode' they've got going on, though. I think I'm supposed to feel that it's SO COOL, but instead it just feels meh, to me.

^Your "spolier" needs some revision!

Not really. I can see where one might have the issue I suppose, but it just didnt happen to me.

I'm loving the LFE in this game. Everything from the Titan movements to Hades' voice.

I'm a little shocked at the lack of Hephaestus discussion. I was stunned by his appearance and how well crafted, animated and voiced he was.

You know who was doing his voice, right?

The reviewers at 3_KILLA_BYTES noted that exact problem; see their review.

Yeah lol... when I first heard him talk I was like, "WHOA! WTF?" but he did awesome and I enjoyed the character. This game is so freaking amazing and I loved that room that he was in because it just seemed so insane that he was just stuck in that little corner and just the animation on him and stuff... this game is TOO good.

this....game...kicks...ass.

I played the hell out of the Collection over the weekend before 3 released, and ended up getting all the trophies for both (the Challenges are a pain). Man it was fun to play those again!

The first two are presented well, but the third one is unbelievable. The first time you see Kratos walking around while delivering a threatening speech, while the camera zooms in to the characters faces, you realize this game is something special. I definitely had an uncanny valley moment watching Kratos speak close up. The audio is also amazing. You can tell the care that was taken to make sure this one sounds as good as it looks.

Gameplay wise it's familiar, but much smoother than before. Some of the combat animations are really detailed, and will surprise you with what you can do on screen. There's enough new stuff so it feels fresh, and enough familiar stuff so it's comfortable for fans. My fav new move? The Combat Grapple (L1+O). So satisfying!

I happened to be off on Tuesday, so I stayed up a little late and picked this up at the local midnight event on Monday night. And still haven't played it.

I am only three hours in to gow2(first replay since playing at launch) and I insist on finishing it before starting gow3. And it is killing me.

LOVE THIS GAME....only issues i'm having: sometimes i don't get the "R1" prompt at save points, i have to run around it a bunch or run away from it so the camer angle changes then run back to get the prompt. Also, sometimes the sound doubles. I noticed this during some of the segments when you are being told what your magic is and stuff. And one other problem was it got a little laggy during a cutscene. However, no such lag or slowdown at all during gameplay which is amazing considering the quality. but yea just that one cutscene...anyone else having problems like these????

I haven't heard any voiceover tutorial when receiving weapons / magic...

You're saying you do, Drizzle?

I happened to be home sick yesterday and put in a 10 hour marathon session trying to finish up GoW2 so I could have popped in GoW 3 last night. Couldn't finish - I think I have about an hour left.

I didn't own a PS2 when the first two came out, but have to say I've been extremely impressed by the Collection. I just wish I didn't wait until last minute to finish GoW2. Like cramming for a test. I can only imagine that GoW3 will blow my socks off.

as you get new weapons, like even when you first got blades of exile, then you hear athena's voice explaining that you now have the magic to call on the spartan phalanx shield magic thingy.

those voice overs are the ones i'm talkin' about, and they're kinda skipping

I didn't even hear that. That's crazy! I'm wondering if it's an issue with my setup or the game....

hrmmm....
lol, i dunno...i mean, it's not that big of a deal, i'm more worried about cutscene skipping which has only happened to me one time and it wasn't too bad...any experiences with that kinda stuff?
No, not really. The cutscenes seemed to be synced pretty well for me.
damn that's good, it was only that one for me, so yea. hopefully that's the only problems i'll have. when i finish my 1st playthru, i'll see if the same problems occur during my 2nd one.

ok so, favorite parts of the game? spoiler tags please. lol
even though i'm almost finished with it, i'd have to say my favorite part is still:

entire opening sequence, opening credits included. first scenes fighting on Gaia..just awesome... and the first boss fight is most epic to me so far...one of the most popular gods of olympus, killed off right away!?!?! what a way to start a game. and the way the fight ends, just awesome! gaia punches then you punch straight thru! hah! awesome

It's a cutscene thing in the course of the action so you probably have heard it but r not thinking it's what he's talking about.

any way to check what difficulty you're playing on/revert to hard? I was getting my butt handed to me by the 1st boss. A prompt came up asking me if I wanted to switch to an easier difficulty. I meant to press no, but I may have screwed up. enemies seem much easier now. can I change difficulty back to hard, or do I have to re-start?

It ask if you want to change to easy(only option) I am playing on Titan and it pops up every so often. It will not allow you to change as it will be permanant. Obviously I am getting my ass handed to me to recieve that. I wonder if we will get a trophy for most deaths in a certain time span.

In post #132 of this thread I mentioned that I was stuck... It turns out this is a bug. After defeating the first set of enemies in the beginning of the game, it's possible that you are completely stuck in the game as there is a cut-scene which never starts.

Here is the video... read the description for more iinfo.
