What do 3D displays do? Coraline in 3d already worked...

I have a 46 inch Samsung LCD and a Sony Bluray player and Coraline in 3d seemed to work nicely on it.

What exactly does getting a new 3d enabled display do that my current display doesn't do?

Not that long ago 3D Central is introduced on AV Science.

What did you mean by:

For a while we where talking a lot here(Flat Panel General) about 3D,there where a lot of posts.
AV Science took all 3D related threads,now they are in a special 3D area,this happened a month ago.
AV Science thinks that 3D is important enough to get its own area.

Go to 3D Displays,they will answer your questions.
