To the best of everyone's knowledge,

Can DRM protected HTPC recordings in 7MC be edited to remove commercials or file extension?

Thanks,

Yet another reason to use Sage or BTV for recording TV. No DRM or proprietary formats.

umm...maybe I missed it...did they get cablecard/encrypted channel yet?? What's the point of no DRM, when you're not recording any protected content in the first place??

Of course you are right, the only way to record encrypted cable with Sage and BTV is with the HDPVR using the analog hole. I was thinking of how MC7 OTA HD recordings are made in that stupid proprietary wtv format that has to be converted to DVR-MS before editing. Sage and BTV record in mpeg or mpeg transport streams that can be played on any PC or hardware media player and can be freely edited and/or converted to any format that you wish.

Sorry for trying to beat a dead horse, but can DRM protected *.wtv files be converted to *.dvr-ms for any editing?

No. And Kapone, the R5000-HD gives you pure digital video without conversion through analog like the hd-dvr does, but with no DRM to get in the way of commercial processing...

thx

That's a file format issue, not a DRM issue per se. The wtv spec is out there, it's just that most video editing/mangling tools haven't caught up to it yet.

You can't do ANYTHING to a DRM protected wtv file.

Mike, the R5000 is a whole another story. Let's leave that for some other time. That's not the point of discussion here anyway.
