Me too....I would love some ln55c630 calibrations for one with an AA01 panel.

Could it be a bad cable? I've tried it in both OS X and Windows 7, both see that it exists, but the screen just says "No Signal detected." Thanks.

Didn't see any responses. I bought a new cable, still have the same issue, I doubt it could be two bad cables in a row, any ideas what I should do?

Is mirrored displays enabled on your Mac?

I'm gonna say no.

Hey Dana,

Thanks. Quick question, do you know the difference between the different panels like:
SQ01
AA02

I searched on the thread but am still not sure. Thanks!

I enabled the eco sensor and man it is great. It makes the tv plenty bright under light, but darkens it so much with the lights off at night that the blacks remain black! Fantastic.

The reason I ask is, if you have a HD console (PS3/360) with a HDTV, wouldn't you want excellent graphics?

I tested some pc games this weekend and the pq was amazing. I dont have any consoles to test.
HL2 looked good and the video stress test said I was getting 128fps, not bad.
I did not notice any input lag on game mode, there was some in movie mode.

I dont have any newer games atm to test.

Guys,

I wanted to share this with you all, I took the plunge and bought the C650

I had been to Best Buy/Sears 3-4 times, and couldn't decide which I like better (46C650 vs 50PK750), so I decided to try out the C650 at home (during the 30 day return policy) before making my final decision.

The reason I have to rely on you guys to guide me is that I've not watched TV for the past 6 years, so I don't have a baseline as to what to expect from a LCD/Plasma.

Here's are 2 questions from my 1st impressions:
Moving ~45 degrees from the center, I do notice the colors go off a bit. If I focus on the grass (on a football field) or people's faces, and then move ~45 degrees off center, I notice the colors go a little dull.

1. Is this okay/normal/acceptable? For you guys, does this affect movie experience if you are on the couch's edge?

2. With lights on, the image/picture looks good. But with lights off, not so good, the screen looks a little dull, not vibrant.
Do I need to change some setting for dark room viewing?
1. It is normal for a VA panel lcd, which is what you get with Sammy and Sony. That is the price you pay for deep blacks. If you don't like it, return for the plasma or get an IPS panel lcd (Panasonic, LG).

2. Turn the backlight down by either turning it down manually to 4 or 5, or try turning on the eco sensor. It makes it less bright, but also deepens the blacks which is what you want in the dark.

Is the game mode on this TV a toggle I can access with my Harmony remote?
Another question, will the optical out send all audio from the TV to a receiver, no matter what input is used?

Since it isn't a toggle on the Sammy remote - you have to navigate to it on the OSD - the answer is "No." (Reference the LN55C650 only.)

I believe that it sends PCM out with all inputs (DD is greyed out) with the exception of when connected to an OTA antenna in which case DD can be selected.

Here's what my LN55C650 manual says:

Quote:

DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)

When a digital audio system is connected to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack, decrease the volume of both the TV and the system.

5.1 CH (channel) audio is available when the TV is connected to an external device supporting 5.1 CH.

When the receiver (amplifier or DVD home theater) is set to on, you can hear sound output from the TV's optical jack. When the TV is receiving a DTV signal, the TV will send 5.1 CH sound to the amplifier or DVD home theater. When the source is a digital component such as a DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB (Set-Top-Box) satellite receiver and is connected to the TV via HDMI, only 2 CH audio will be heard from the amplifier or DVD home theater. If you want to hear 5.1 CH audio, connect the digital audio out jack from your DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB satellite receiver directly to an amplifier or home theater.

Dana

PS. You can download the manual for the TV you are interested in from Samsung.com.

Try some on the calibration thread:

I got 98% there with the "UK" settings on an LN55C650. Many like the "skibum" settings too. You may fine tune a little when done entering all. /Dan

If your Harmony lets you program macros in, it might be possible to hit just one button and do it. If not, might be good to just set up one input to be left on game mode.

Just a quick update. The bottom line is that after living with the C630 we took it back. Calibration produces excellent results when viewed directly. However, room glare (wish it had a matte screen) and off-angle viewing issues where the colors fade out degraded the picture too much for us.

We'll probably wait for future offerings, or turn to Sony or the new Vizio; hopefully Samsung offers a matte LED (fully backlit) in the future. Probably not, but here's to hoping.

Sorry to hear that
What TVs are you considering (or could consider) as alternatives that have the good PQ of C630/650 but better viewing angles?

I too bought the TV but am not too sure of the viewing angles.
I'm noticing differences in color from the center to the right edge of the screen that is affected by viewing angle. But even on center at 10' away there are some scenes where it is noticeable. A good example is the netflix logo and background of red. It's deep red in the center, but slightly more pink on either side, especially on the right side.

I don't think it's a good idea to turn the backlight that low, as it can cause buzzing and damage the inverter. You would also lose virtually all shadow detail at a setting that low. I leave the backlight on my 40C630 at the default setting of 14, and after calibration of the other settings, the blacks are good even in the dark.

hey guys. I was thinking about upgrading my 40" sammy LN A550 to a 46" c630. Bigger house, need a bigger TV! Now, I'm already used to and fine with using game mode on the lnA550 for games.

Is the input lag on this TV comparable? Would the PQ be a big improvement for Blu Ray & satellite?

I'm looking at the samsung c630, sony ex500, or lg ld550, but leaning towards the samsung.
I also upgraded from the a550 and think that the lag is about the same between the two tvs. I think that the PQ is a HUGE improvement for hd and sd material because:

(a) much, much deeper blacks
(b) sharper picture
(c) better upconversion

Thanks!

Dana

Does anyone notice improvement with viewing angle on their c630 after calibration? I calibrated my 55c630 using the settings on CNET and it looks better than before. But the PQ w/ this settings is not good when watching DVD. I had to add about 50+ sharpness.

Hello All.

I am the proud new owner of the above.

On a recent trip, we discovered the ability to use the hotel room's flat screen as an alarm clock. Apparently, my tv has this feature but I can't get it too work.

I set the time on tv. Activated "Timer 1" for on time, channel, source=cable, etc.

It turns on but to static.

My tv is connected via hdmi from my Rogers hd box. As most of you know, the settings via the Rogers remote/box has a setting for "wake up" I set this to come on at the same time (and even earlier) as the tv "on time" - No luck.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

When you set the timer on the TV, sellect HDMI for the source instead of the cable.

What? Lol no. Shadow detail has nothing to do with the backlight setting! That is determined by the brightness and gamma controls. And no it can't cause buzzing or damage of any kind. Where did you get this bogus information from?? I've had my backlight on 3 (out of 10) on my previous lcd for two years with no damage whatsoever, and a superb detailed, colorful image since I calibrated it with my i1 using kal's guide.
