I have a couple of questions though.

Is there a game mode in that TV? if yes how can i activate it. IF not is there a calibration that will enhance the TV response time?

I'm in a room with variable light it can be very well lit or it can be so dark that you wont see your own hands.

I am asking about the calibration settings that i should use for each case and for each use.

i.e. well lit room for gaming, and a dark room for gaming.. same for sports and movies.

Your help will be so much appreciated. thanks all.

There is a Game Mode on the C650 series. Check out page 24 of the Owner's manual.

You may want to check out the comprehensive review of the LN55C650 here that includes commentary on pros and cons of the Game mode. Also that reviewer suggests calibrated settings.

I had a power loss for a minute last night and when everything rebooted, the TV would not sync with any HDMI device. It would keep saying there was no connection. To resolve, I switched it to HDMI 2 and plugged in the HDMI 1 cable to the 2 input while everything was on. This allowed a sync. After this, I swapped it back and all is well but what the heck happened?

Hi guys, I searched but nothing came up. I have had menu lag on my LN46C630 since I got the TV. From what I can tell the menu goes into a crippling laggy state whenever it doesn't receive a tv station signal (I only have basic broadcast TV, no cable or anything), it doesn't do it everytime though so I can't be sure that its the cause. The TV will literally become completely laggy, even trying to shut it off I have to wait a long time before it responds.

Tried to install any firmware updates, but apparently there aren't any (or at least I have the most up to date version). Has anyone else had this issue or know how to fix it?

The latest firmware update for your model can be found here along with an upgrading guide.

Dont know if the 2011 models are having this issue but it
appears to be a problem with the tuners on the 2010 units.

Thanks for the links. Guess I will just have to live with it, I'm pretty sure I am past any warranty that I might have. I usually only play video games or watch movies on this TV anyways. Maybe I will try to research some better antennas in hopes of having fewer signal drops when I am watching TV. Pretty sure the antenna I am using is a five year old dollar store model :P

Hello all. I am hoping that one of you may be able tell me what I can do to fix the problem. I have a LN46c630. When the TV is on for some time the whole screen will just start flashing like a strobe light. I can still see the picture and the sound is fine. Sometimes when I lower the backlight the problem will stop and I can watch TV in peace (although at a dimmer level and less pleasing picture). Although, sometimes this will not even solve the issue and I have to shut the TV off for a period of time. I have talked with a samsung tech guy through internet chat and he stated that there have been no reports regarding this issue. I am calling BULL#@& on this statement due to the fact that I have found several posts on other websites talking of the exact same problem! However, there are no solutions posted to the issue. PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!

Hey guys,

I have a Samsung - LN46B650 that I purchased a few years ago. I have been having the USB2 (or 1) overload error for over a year now but didn't have a PC handy to fix it. (I just had my apple.) I finally used the PC to install the latest firmware last week and I am still getting the error.

Last year, Sammy customer support told me that it was my HDMI cables and that the firmware upgrade wouldn't help. Is there any merrit to this? If so, what HDMI cables would you recommend that won't break the bank? I am currently using the best quality ribbon cables that Monoprice had to offer 2 years ago. I don't need ribbon, it was just an added bonus.

(sorry if this was discussed but searching for buzz words all brought up posts that referred to the firmware update that claimed to fix this.)

Thanks,

John

It is highly unlikely that Monoprice HDMI cables are at fault. But, this thread is all about the C630/650 (2010) models. I don't recall reading any reports here about USB overload errors.

Have you tried to find the B630/650 (2009) model thread? That may be a more helpful place to get feedback.

I didn't realize that. Thanks! I will post that in the other forum. What stinks is I believed the tech support and now my warrenty is expired. Bummer.

I have a problem with my tv (the ln40c650). Maybe it was there the whole time but it took time to get on my nerves... but I swear it's just way worse now than it was.

RED PUSH. Only on 1080p and 1080i material. Faces are beet red. I mean not even sun burn red but full out choke someone red. Almost Lucifer red. But on dvds and sd flesh tones are fantastic, and on 720p material no problem either. No controls can fix this except for turning color off completely. Also no problem on upconverted dvd either, and downconverted blu-ray still shows the problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix in the service menu? Or should I call Samsung to have a technician/repair man come out to fix it?

The problem is so bad that I prefer watching sd now to hd and I don't watch blu-rays anymore.

If it's still under warranty, by all means get a Samsung technician to look at it!

I called tech support about my B630 (wrong forum but I figured you would be interested). This time the guy said to restore TV to defaults (hold the exit key down for a few seconds). Then it should go away.

It didn't. He said that I need to get a tech support guy out... just like you guys said. However, I have no warrenty. I think I will do it anyways.

If the warranty is only for one year then I have a problem, it's been more than a year!

I might do what you did ps3 lagerman and contact tech support.

If you registered it with Samsung, then you got a three month extension = 15 month warranty.

You may be protected by an implied warranty that goes beyond the merchant's written one. Read more here.

Thanks, a 15 month is all I need, I bought it in early September last year. I didn't know about the extension.

I've searched through the thread for talk about DTS output. To confirm, there is no way to get the C630 to output DTS through the optical output using HDMI as a source?

I've used a couple of different HTPCs, most recently a Mac Mini, that output DTS via HDMI, but the C630 just outputs stereo to my receiver. However if I re-encode the audio to AC3, it passes that to my receiver and it decodes the 5.1 DD just fine.

Is this just how it works or am I doing something wrong?

Page 11 of the C650 Owner's manual spells it out. I put the relevant sentence in BOLD.

Quote:

✎ DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)
When a digital audio system is connected to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack, decrease the volume
of both the TV and the system.
5.1 CH (channel) audio is available when the TV is connected to an external device supporting 5.1 CH.
When the receiver (amplifier or DVD home theater) is set to on, you can hear sound output from the TV's optical jack. When the TV is receiving a DTV signal, the TV will send 5.1 CH sound to the amplifier or DVD home theater. When the source is a digital component such as a DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB (Set-Top-Box) satellite receiver and is connected to the TV via HDMI, only 2 CH audio will be heard from the amplifier or DVD home theater. If you want to hear 5.1 CH audio, connect the digital audio out jack from your DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB satellite receiver directly to an amplifier or home theater.

As Walter Cronkite used to say, "And that's the way it is."

Right, thanks. It's just weird because I get 5.1 DD audio via HDMI -> Samsung optical out (or at least my receiver says I do).

Interesting. I won't tell Samsung if you don't.

The paragraph I quoted from the C650 Owner's manual is found on page 9 of the C610/630 manuals. Who ever wrote it may not have tried it first.

I'm sad to see that many people have the same problem I started having about a week ago in my LN46C610N1F, purchased at BJ's on 10/10/10, so it's barely out of warranty. However in my case it's kind of strange because it mostly does it with the output from my Grassvalley HD Spark card, which is a card to display the output from Edius, an editing software. At first I thought it was the card, I even moved it to a different slot and vacuumed the inside of the computer really well, but after a few days it did it a couple of time with the Directv DVR, although it does it a lot less and not most of the time. With the output from the HD Spark card it did it every now and then and now it's doing it almost all the time, until I switch to another video on Edius and it may stop doing it, or not. Sometimes it takes several tries.

I also confirmed it's not the card because I connected it to an older Sony LCD and it never does it.

Since probably Samsung is going to invoke warranty privilege and not help me, has anybody here done anything other than calling a repair person to fix it? Any tricks or discoveries of any kind?

Did you register your TV with Samsung? If so, the warranty was extended by three months to 15 months total. Also, many states have implied warranty laws that supersede the manufacturer's written one. Check with your state AG office, Consumer Protection Division, etc.

I have an over-the-air antenna (no cable) with a LN630 and I am trying to understand the channel list. When I am watching a channel and hit channel list to see what else is on, I see a list of channels but I can't see what program is on any other channel but the one I am currently on. if I try to get information about some other channel, I get the error "there is no program info. Tune channel first". I have to then go through and actually turn to that channel before it will show me a listings. Once I have gone through every channel one-by-one, the listings stay on, but if I turn the TV off the lists all disappear and it stats over again.
Is there a way to have the TV automatically get the tv listings\\ or at least retain them?

THanks

Nope. It is transmitted by the station and the TV does not scan to get the info (it would blank out the channel you are watching for several minutes as the tuner scanned every channel). It can't get it until you change the tuner to that channel. Cable/Sat does it by using an additional tuner or special channel to get the info.

Oh, when you turn the TV off it loses it from memory. Would be useless (old data) anyway unless you turned it on again within minutes.

thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that.

In the manual it says there is a fine tuning option for OTA channels but I can't find it. Any ideas where it could be? it says under the channel option, but there is nothing there like tuning.
