My LN55C650 is performing without a problem. I've had it over a year. Consumer Reports rated it highly. I think it has been superseded by a newer model.

It is the nature of these threads to attract reports of problems, questions or requests for assistance. It is the opposite of a scientific sample.

I'm a Mac user myself so I'm not sure that the info on Page 19 of the Owner's manual is helpful but here it is.

Using Your TV as a Computer (PC) Display
Setting Up Your PC Software (Based on Windows XP) Depending on the version of Windows and the video card, the actual screens on your PC will probably look different, but the same basic set-up information will apply in most cases. (If not, contact your computer manufacturer or Samsung Dealer.)
1. Click on “Control Panel” on the Windows start menu.
2. Click on “Appearance and Themes” in the “Control Panel” window and a display dialog-box will appear.
3. Click on “Display” and a display dialog box will appear.
4. Navigate to the “Settings” tab on the display dialog-box.
• The correct size setting (resolution) [Optimum: 1920 X 1080 pixels]
• If a vertical-frequency option exists on your display settings dialog box, the correct value is “60” or “60 Hz’. Otherwise, just click “OK” and exit the dialog box.

Not sure if it matters, but which hdmi port are you using? I use the one on the back with the DVI label. This TV works great with a laptop, might be a defective model/cable/setting issue.

Again, I've done enough testing to rule out it being a computer output issue.
The TV seems to only like devices where you arent able to configure the video out settings.
The book says to use that port. I try all 4 every time I do troubleshooting. Oddly enough HDMI 4 works the most often. I have tried 12 different cables of varying brands. The settings aren't an issue. It will work sometimes after a reset back to factory settings. It could be a defective model of TV, but I have witnessed first hand the same model at a Best Buy and a Sears experience the same issue.

Anyone using a Mac on this TV over HDMI?
sounds defective...I know there are diff versions of this tv with slightly diff. parts that may vary. Mine is the SQ01 version. Works great with my asus laptop...even surprised as I'm using a 50 ft. hdmi cable with 2 port savers.

Gee, if I turn up the backlight, turn off the tv or throw a blanket over the TV it works, it must NOT be the TV. I'm at wits end. Anyone have any suggestions?

Update everyone, service came today (after I screamed and yelled at everyone at Samsung) and replaced the power supply. That resolved the DVR not functioning with the remote problem BUT I now have the original problem I started with months ago back again. The screen flickers when the backlight is turned up. They had come out and snipped jumper wires which fixes the flicker but screws up the DVR. How can I get Samsung to get me a power supply that actually works like it should?
anyone else tried this?

I have the LN46C670, the Best Buy model. I think this is just about identical to the LN46C650.

I was pissed that I could not get Amazon Instant Video on the C670 because there was not Yahoo widget. I did a power off....mute...1---8----2...power on and then changed my model to the C650. I then turned the tv off then on. When I launched @internet the yahoo widget came up immediately and I was able to get Amazon Instant Video installed.

I just did this but it looks like all is well with it.

Can you or anyone else be more specific on which jumper gets clipped to fix the screen flicker problem?

Wish I could tell you but my wife was home was that was done and I forgot to ask the guy when he replaced the power supply. I just know it's a quick fix.

I have a new and strange issue with my ln40c630 that just cropped up. Basically, the TV refuses to recognize the usb 1 port. But it does recognize usb drives plugged into that port. Here's what's happening:

If I plug a usb drive into the usb port #2, the window pops up allowing me to select to play "media files" from "usb port 2." Fine. No problem. But when I put the same flash drive into usb port #1, the window pops up with same message, but it quickly changes to say "play media files from usb 2" and not usb 1. So the TV is recognizing usb port 1 as usb port 2.

Even weirder, if I go to the media player with a usb drive plugged into usb port 1, the media player will say that there is no drive connected in port 1. If I then press the "A (red)" button to switch to usb 2 port on the media player screen. The tv will display the files from my drive plugged into usb port 1. So even when usb port 2 is empty and usb port 1 has a drive in it, the TV still thinks the drive is connected to usb port 2.

The obvious troubleshooting step would be to do a factory reset to see if that fixes anything, but I wanted to see if anyone has run into this issue before and has some advice?

I think the TV is recognizing the usb port 1 because the popup window that comes up when you first insert a flash drive displays usb (1) before the text quickly changes to usb 2.

Have you updated to the Oct 21, 2010 firmware located here? I ask that because one of the fixes sounds like your problem.

4. Description
This firmware prevents below problems.
- ''USB Power Overload'' message pops up even USB port is not connected.
- HDMI 2 looks activated when HDMI 1 port is connected.

Good point. Unfortunately, I did already apply the latest firmware update months ago. Interestingly, I never had this issue on the old firmware from last year.

I clipped the jumper myself and my TV is no longer flickering. Very simple process, took 10 minutes total.

Hi,

I recently noticed that when I turn on my tv (LN55C650), the picture is a little bit darker, and after about thirty seconds it becomes normal. Is it a problem ?

Thank's

Any pics or can you describe the location? Anybody know if Samsung ever truly fixed the issue with their power supplies?

Reference this CNET post. There's a description on what to cut and photos.

http://forums.cnet.com/7723-13973_10...message5255594

Remove the back cover. Locate power supply circuit board (the one the power cable gets plugged into), on upper left corner, to
the right of and below the large 46" logo, there is a metal jumper labelled
JP852 that is no more than 2 cm in length. it connects 'Input rating' and to another labeled 'COLD'. Clip the JP852 jumper with
wire cutters.

Thanks for the link. The only problem with this "fix" is that it apparently causes the backlight to pulse at the exact frequency the Verizon 7232 needs to work correctly with its remote. The remote becomes useless and no one at Samsung will believe you when you call screaming about it They *really* need a proper fix for this.

Has anyone seen an issue where the LN46C630 quits playing an MP4 movie file from a USB hard drive at about 2hrs? the file plays fine up until about the 2 hr mark and then it just quits and moves to the next movie on the hard drive. Movies under approx 2 hrs will play from start to end with no issues. I have tried other movies over 2 hrs on another device (pc, xbox) and they work fine so the issue is not the movie file itself. thanks.

Watch them in blu ray disc. Problem solved. Oh and piracy is illegal.

I'm still confused about film mode on these TV's. In reviews, it states to turn film mode to Auto 1 when watching 24p content like blu-rays. But whenever I switch to my blu-ray input on my TV (the hdmi input with my oppo bdp-93 connected to it), film mode is greyed out. I have my oppo automatically sending the c630 a 24/1080p signal, but why is the tv not letting me select a film mode setting? If I use any other input on the c630 (like SD TV) I can select my film mode. Any idea why film mode is greyed out when playing blu-rays? I've tried disabling auto 24p from my blu-ray player, but no luck.

Film mode only works in interlaced signals.

Anyway you should have it off. No need for it

Hello. I'm new here and probably will not be an frequent writing visitor. This is if fact because quality of my English
I come from Poland and talking with our local Samsung support couldn't manage to fine a solution for simple (as believe) problem.
What I'm looking for is to facilitate the procedure of changing the sources (I've look through this thread too).

Currently to change from TV (or any other source) to HDMI 1 (or any other source) it is of course necessary to hit Source button to select desired source, and then hit Enter to confirm.
What I'm trying to find is how to awoid the need of confirmation - for other TV receivers it is only required to select desired source and wait a while (not necessary to hit OK/Enter to confirm self choice).

This way of working (confirming by hitting Enter) is additionally not consisted with User Manual where only Source button is mentioned!.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I read on LN46C630 forum people fixed the problem by cutting jumper JP852, but there is no JP852 on my LN55C630, since my tv is 1 and 9 month old(warrenty long gone), I cut the jummper Jp854 on the exact location.(located on the power supply board upper left). Everything(setting, change mode, ... brightness... everthing) works fine again. Hope that helps.

Been hearing a lot about this flickering issue, Mine just past a year of ownership (Feb/7/11) so I'm getting nervous. Sorry to hear about the issues some of you are having. We'll see what happens with mine. LN46C630 SQ01.

It's ridiculous that we have to open up our tvs to clip jumpers etc. in such a short time of ownership. My Sony tube tv was 15 yrs old with zero issues till last year.

I understand electronics fail now and then as I've had a few in the past but I've read about the flickering quite a bit.

I did register with Samsung for the extra 3 months warranty but still doesn't make me feel any better heh.

Hopefully members on here will keep each other updated, Thanks.

The tv is great other than hearing about this issue.

I have the best buy model 46" 670 (Which is the same as 650)

Anyway, I am going to be getting a gaming pc in the next month or so, and I just wanted to know how this works as a computer monitor. I did alot o reading about input lag but that was mostly about ps3 and xbox 360 (of which I have both, and don't notice any input lag in game mode.)

Just wanting to step up to pc gaming and am curious to how this will work. I will be playing mostly racing games, but will also play games like Skyrim every once in a while.

Hi all,

I have a 630 that is about 2 years old and just recently it has begun to have problems with black and/or multi-colored thin vertical lines showing all across the screen. I have narrowed the problem down to some kind of loose connection relating to the rear HDMI inputs. If I wiggled the HDMI cable at the TV input the lines disappear. I then switched to the side HDMI port and when the lines re-appeared I again tried to wiggle the cable and nothing happened, however, when I pressed on the HDMI panels on the back (where the cable wasn't even plugged into at the time) the lines again disappeared.

I've also tried different HDMI cables and the lines are there whether I have the cable box turned on or not. I'm hoping this will be a simple part replacement or something, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not skilled with electrical sodering or anything like that so anything more advanced then un-plugging/plugging I'll probably end up taking to a service shop to be safe.

Here is a picture of the lines

Obviously your TV needs service and since it's about two years since you bought it, it's out of the Samsung warranty. Many if not all states have some sort of implied warranty that protects consumers against defective merchandise. I suggest you contact your state consumer affairs division, attorney general or similar state agency, explain your situation and ask for help.

Dana
Ray,

Here's what Samsung says at the bottom of their Limited Warranty weasel words.

Quote:

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

Years ago a friend complained to me about some piece of electronic gear that had failed just after the OEM express warranty had expired. The dealer claimed it was out of warranty. I said "Tell the dealer Maine is an implied warranty state and that you'll call the Attorney General if it isn't fixed." The dealer knew darn well Maine is an implied warranty state and that's all it took for him to fix the item.

So, you might try the same thing!

The dimming cannot be entirely shut off but I read that shadow detail(or might of been gamma)changes how much it dims.I think it said more shadow detail(further to right) made it dim lesser.I've never tested it.

For the tv that comes on dim then gets brighter. Are the power saving things like ecosensor on?Maybe it's that.

A few times when I adjusted back light Only 1 number it made a semi significant difference in brightness. Not a problem.just wonder what it was.Might of been power saving setting.

I love my TV, but now that it's out of warranty, the remote has failed ... at first I thought it was my Logitech Harmony, but even the Samsung remote has failed. I'm concerned it's the IR sensor ... anyone else seen this before?
