Official Panasonic TC-PxxVT20/25 Owners Thread NO PRICE TALK!! - Page 251

...in the Oct 2010 issue of Widescreen Review. Just read it today at the local bookstore. This is not a a$s-kissing thread because I happened to agree mostly with the review that was mostly critical of the TV's performance. This was probably the most honest and comprehensive professional review of this TV that I have seen. It is obvious that Doug spent a lot of time with the TV and addressed pratical issues like processing, flicker, contouring, line bleed and phosphor lag which most reviews ignored. Compared to this review, the other reviews that have come out are mostly glowing and not addressing key issues that users have raised in this forum. They seemed to have revolved around how deep the black level is (which is slowly rising BTW........LOL).

While the vt25 is a good TV, but IMHO it is most overhyped TV to make come into the market recently. At best it is poor man's Kuro, that too is debatable. I was as disappointed in the overall performance (mainly processing) as the reviewer given the frequent comparisons to Kuro and top of the line status from Panny. Panny needs to do much better next time. Improve the damn processing. My 32" Sammy LCD has better processing than this plasma.

That's what I thought, so I bought a $300 power conditioner. The VT25 still buzzes.

Maybe I can save somebody money.

That is the one I changed but just wanted to make sure I changed the right one to affect my THX profile.
Thanks.

Actually, the picture mode you are in doesn't matter when making D-Nice's service menu offsets. The only thing you are changing are settings for the color temperature, so as long as that was set to warm you are ok.

Anyone got any tips to connecting my 58VT25 to a wireless connection? It hooked up fine before but now it just always sits on Connecting... I've unplugged the dongle a couple times and nothing. I don't have any problems with my laptop, desktop, xbox, or ps3 picking up a wireless signal in my home. Thanks for any help!

Glad it worked out for you....

I have an opportunity to upgrade to a 54" VT25 for about 400 dollars more than I paid for the 50". My normal viewing distance is about 9-10 feet, but a loveseat on the side means it can sometimes be 6 feet or less. My general feeling when watching movies is that a bigger screen would be nice, but a 50" already feels big for normal TV (HD) viewing.

Has anyone here felt (or had their friends/wife compain ) that their TV is too big?

Thanks in advance.

General consensus around here is normally no one ever says screen is too big and after purchase most people wish they had bought a bigger screen.

Following site provides calculator for size/distance; but realize it, especially the THX recommendations, really push big sets:
http://myhometheater.homestead.com/v...alculator.html

I have a vt65 and sit around 10 feet away. I've never throught is was too big. In fact the above site shows the 65 as small for even 9 feet.

My first set was a 37", which I thought was huge. After a year I upgraded to a 50" and I though I went to heaven. A month ago I just got a 58VT25 and now the 50" seems really too small. In other words get the largest you can afford, you will not be sorry.

What don't you understand about the "Owners Thread" in the title here? We're interested in passing info between owners or getting helpful comments from the professionals that contribute; not hearing "IMHO" comments from amateurs who don't own the set.

Are youy basing your comments solely on that review or do you own one? When you say your 32" lcd has better processing you are basing that on what info/data? I think too many people get caught up in the "this display is a POS because it doesn't equal or surpass Kuro mll" syndrome. A lot of people would rather spend $2-3k for a vt25 than the extra money for a kuro.

Get the largest one you can afford. Even 65" is too small for 9 feet viewing distance.
The THX formula for HDTV is screen_diagonal_size_inches = viewing_distance_feet x 10.2

For your 9 feet viewing distance the recommended TV size is 92 inches.
For your 6 feet loveseat distance, the recommended TV size is 61 inches.

For the 54" you're planning to get the optimal recommended is 5.3 feet.

i was in the same boat i just got the 54VT25 my feeling was that didnt makes since replacing a 50" inch with another one of the size size, I really wanted the 58" just didnt want to spend over 3k, so the 54 was the most i could afford.

I think he use to own one and returned it because if his dislikes.

Everyone is enititled their opinion, but the processing, color banding, floating blacks, etc. complaints are vaild.

Regarding Kuro, there is a lot more to a Kuro than its MLL

That wa my point about the kuro. Everyone judges a display against kuro mll when that is only part of the PQ. I wasn't tryng to get down on him just trying to find out if he had any basis for his comments other than Dougs review.

I had my set calibrated by Lee Gallagher last week.
First of all I want to say that Lee is one of the most professional people I have dealt with in some time. He took the time and effort to explain everything he was doing in detail. It was almost like going to a seminar. He fixed all of the crap the BB calibrator created and got the set to produce an outstanding picture. I have nothing but praise for Lee and would highly recommend him.
But.......I still have a lot of green when I am watching DirecTv for the most part.
My other sources are great. DVD, Blu etc look smashing. Not so good all the time with Sat. I don't blame the calibration since all these Sat channels vary so much.
Is it me or does Direct have a green issue? I'm driving myself nuckinfuts.

What do you suggest?

Someone mentioned on this thread earlier that their 65" VT25 has a gold trim on the stand. Is this specific to the 65" models or does the 54" version have it as well?

Thanks!

Need more info. What channels? What shows? Where is your sat box in your video chain? How is the sat box connected to your display? The picture is green compared to what?

It's connected directly to the display through HDMI.
Green shadows on faces and blonde hair.
As far as channels, it's hit or miss. I can try to chart it.
One of the worst offenders lately is "The Blindside".

Have you tried a different DirecTV receiver?
I've never noticed any green issues, either.

I swapped them early on from a conventional box to a dvr.
Like the first day I had it, so maybe I should swap them back to see if it makes a diff.

Thanks for your calibration report. I've included it in the flat panel list that's linked at the bottom of my post.

I have also noticed the green fring ghosting on other sets i have owned with cable thru the wall, no cable box. I never noticed it on my Kuro, but think it would have to be the signal or the channel.

What model DTV DVR? The HR24 models all output RGB-limited, others output different things. In any case it really sounds like a issue with the STB. My HR24 does nothing like that, although every channel and/or program is different.

What did Lee have to say about the greenness?

I have a variety of DirecTV boxes, including the HR24. None exhibit any green tinge.... including The Blind Side.
