I went to two different stores last weekend to look at this TV.
At one, they were showing a movie on blu-ray. What I saw were a lot of close-up scenes of people talking, so there was a lot of normal movement that you would see in any movie - people walking across the screen, etc. I noticed an incredible amount of flicker each time this happened, as did the person I was with. We both thought it was unwatchable. The store was closing, however, so we didn't have time to get someone to let us play around with settings.
We headed to Best Buy. They were playing Best Buy ads on their TVs, so bright white, yellow, and blue images with lots of moving text etc. They had the VT25 sitting next to a Quattron. At first I thought the VT25 looked better, but then I noticed that the edges of text moving slowly across the screen were also flickering. No such trouble on the Quattron, which I had looked at months ago and had decided I really didn't like it.
Complicating things more, I had been at a high-end audio/video store a few weeks ago looking at audio equipment, not TVs, but I noticed a 65" Panasonic plasma, properly calibrated in a low-light room playing an animated movie, and I had said that that was the best TV I'd ever seen. I looked at the model number and was sure I'd remember it, but I immediately forgot it. The store is quite a drive away, so I can't just run back to look at it. I can only imagine it was the VT25 though. They had a Quattron nearby as well, playing the same movie, and the Quattron looked absolutely terrible in comparison.
From that, and from everything I had read here and elsewhere, I was ready to buy this TV. Is there some magic "crazy flicker"-inducing setting that is on by default that places like Best Buy would be using?
Basically, can anyone explain this madness? I'd be ready to buy this TV if it weren't for this flickering that I've noticed 2/3 times looking at it! And I can be sure it's not just my eyes playing tricks, because all 3 times I was with the same person and he noticed the same thing.
