I've had two Panny plasmas in my life, most recently a 58TV25 and I dont really notice IR at all. When i say dont really, i mean, i notice it if i look for it up close, then you know what i do? Go back to my couch 10feet away and magically its gone.

Maybe you bought a tv thats too big for your viewing distance, maybe you should put one of those child protective fences about 5 feet around the perimeter of the tv so that it can deter you from getting up every 5mins to check if the espn bottom has retained. All i'm saying is, enjoy your tv.

IR is not a myth but it will only bother you if you let it bother you.
This thread is about the vt20/25 and owners experience with it. The fact remains that ir exists with this set and some of us are reporting the experience. Good for you that ir does not bother you and you can't see it sitting away from the set...some of us can. Room and tv size have nothing to do with ir/these factors will not prevent this issue.

What are you talking about, the ONLY reason I got my VT20 is because of sports, and it's absolutely unbelievable with a good hd source and with no motion issues.

It sucks that some have IR/burn in especially the amount of money they have invested, you don't expect that now. So I would be upset as well...

^^No pun intended. Plasmas are excellent for sports because of their fast refresh rates and excellent picture quality. What I really meant to say was if people spends their good deal amount of time gaming or watches ESPN sports and to avoid potential permanent burn-ins, then an LCD or LED would be best. Some of us here are more fortunate than others for that matter.

You know, I am begaining to think part of it has to do with all this break in slides and etc etc.

I didn't do a single thing to my tv like break in slides, didn't go into the menu's to check time used, basically just was careful for first 100-200 hours and I haven't had a SINGLE IR/Burn in issue.

I consider myself lucky and it's unfortunate that people experience these problems when this is suppose to be the high end of plasma's.

Did you run break in slides at the start btw?
^^I didn't for the first 50 hours but ran them for about 24 hours shortly afterward, then I watched TV in FULL format as normal. It's funny, there were plenty of IR but they did went away after a few minutes. Honestly speaking, I can say that my set is 99.9% Burn-Free except for the fact that I had this little blemish when I was setting up Audyssey from my receiver. Maybe it's because I know where to look for it, and even though, most of the time I can't find it. It was easy to spot from the first week and it didn't want to go away for more than 21 days, but I'd occasionally ran the Wipe, some Slides minimally and sometimes I unplugged my cable box and ran the 'snow', all of it did help quite a bit. Now I watch TV and movies as usual but at the same time I try to avoid bright-static logos for prolonged periods of time.

Even though I also didn't run the slides, and also don't have any burn-in (just VERY minimal IR that goes away in a matter of seconds), I don't think there is any way that the slides make a set more prone to burn-in. There are very few people here complaining about significant IR/burn-in almost a year after the sets were first purchased, and if you figure (for simplicity's sake) that half of the people posting here performed the slide break-in, you'd have to acknowledge that the slides are not the culprit. Again, I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but manufacturing defects or irresponsible viewing are the only reasonable explanations.

I wasn't stating it as a fact, it mostly isn't the cause and like you said, manufacture/use.

It's a silly example, but if you buy a brand new car do you go top/maximum speed right away? You suppose to break it in and don't push it so much right away, and imo break in slides push the plasma to max right away.

Anyways that's my feeling, even if most disagree.

LCD and LED both are LCD, LED just uses different back lighting ( LED)

LED doesn't use different backlighting. LED is the type of backlighting for LCD. The other or older type of backlighting is CCFL.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I just bought a 50vt25 and I am waiting for my hundred hour breakin time. In the meantime, I am going through the settings and I see that the black level is "greyed" out (i.e. not adjustable) and set to "Dark". I have read that the preferred setting is "light", how do I get this? I am running v3.0 of the firmware and using the "Custom" mode.

AFAIK, the "black level" setting is actually a setting for RGB levels, "limited" would be "light" and "dark" would be for full range RGB. Light would be the correct setting for most any video input but it may not be available with some types of input. Yet another one of those mis-labeled settings with no explanation.

I just wanted to say i to have burn in issues with this tv, i use it mainly for gaming and especially COD and have 2 burn in places on the lower part of the screen on the static pieces that stay up all the time. i got this during black friday and noticed it last week. Now when i am done gaming i run the wipe everytime to try and prevent this. Can i do anything else? is this TV just not meant for gaming, can i return the set? I LOVE The picture and 3D is amazing but i was not expecting this. I did not run the slides but did leave the TV on for a 100 hrs. Just frustrated...

Did this model ever get marked down for any good clearance sales? I have seen some periodic sales and bundle deals, but no significant price drops like the recent G25 and GT25 clearance sales. Not asking for names of retailers or specific prices, just curious about sales trends as we go into the new model year. It looks like the top tier model doesn't drop as much as the others.

Man, you guys are freaking me out with all this IR talk. I have an opportunity to get into a 58vt25 for a ridicules price. It's one of the last new 58's in my area. But I don't know if I should do now after reading about all these IR issues.

I can't believe it by the way!!! I have a 58 inch 700u that's been ticking away for years (gaming, sports, kids programming) without a hint of IR.

Now suddenly.... IR is back with a vengeance?

Does anyone know if the wall mount would just line up? Could I just take the 700u down and hang the Vt25?

You guys are "talking" me out of getting a new display!

Does anyone know if I can use an inexpensive USB WiFi adapter (as used on a PC or laptop) to connect my set to my wireless network, or do I have to pay the $80 for the Panasonic version ( I did find it online for about $65).

thanks

Is what it is...you can baby this set with gaming and sports and be ok...but that's the trade off to this amazing set you have to baby it.

I play tons of Battlefield Bad Company 2 and do not get any IR. I treat the set the same way I did my CRT Mits 65813, vary the content and things should be fine.

I am sure the folks mentioning IR have seen it because I would like to believe no one would come on a forum and state they see a problem when there is not one. But I am not going to baby sit a TV and will watch varying content and I believe I will be just fine.

IR is okay, it's perfectly normal goes away quickly, but you don't want anything beyond that.

I've had my 54" VT25 since December 2010 and recently, I have had this magenta and blue colour bar emanating from the left lower quadrant of the screen, and going to almost the middle of the screen. It is a little over an inch high, and alternates magenta and blue.

Whenever anything appears on the screen, whether it is a TV program or just an on-screen menu, the bar is there.

Whenever it is in 3D mode, however, it disappears.

It is even there when there are no inputs (I took them out to test it.).

Panasonic has already come over and taken a look at the problem. They felt that it was a faulty 3D processor, and will be returning in a couple of days to hopefully fix it.

Anyone else have this issue? I love this panel, and am disappointed at this problem. Hopefully it is fixable without much hassle.

Thanks for any information.

You're confused. IR isnt an issue and goes away after a short period. Most of this talk is about Burn-In, which doesnt go away.

If everything else is equal then the answer is no for the same reason that enlarged photos are not as sharp as a smaller one created from the same negative.
could someone please tell me where to go to find settings for vt25,thanks
post #9750 of 10643
Ok silly question but... I've noticed a few people talking about running break in slides. Is this something that comes with the display or are you guys buying a BD disc with slides or ???

Like I said, silly question.
