My Small Living Room Theater

**Updated pictures and currently searching for the perfect area rug and subwoofer**

 

I have a very small living room (about fourteen feet by fourteen feet) that opens up into the dining area and the hallway leading to the bedrooms.

 

The Living Room:

Looks good.

Once you get the new towers, you may want to pull them away from the walls. They may sound too boomy if too close tot he wall.

Since your current satellites have tiny drivers, any assistance in bumping up the bass is welcomed. Towers, on the other hand, may not sound too good.

Another thing may be a small rug or carpet remnant under the sub. It may help tame it a little. You have a lot of hard surfaces, so I'm not sure how much echo you are getting. A larger, fuller area rug infront may also help with some of the first order reflections you may have.

You have a great room. I think acoustical treatments will make it an awesome room. The cool thing is that you can get treatments that look like art so they are not these ugly grey foam things hanging on the walls. Just some thoughts for down the road.

Anyway, there are sites that can explain how to find the various reflection point by yourself. (Most don't have the disposable income top hire a professional.) As long as you have a helper and a mirror, you can capture them. Do a Google search or YouTube search and you will find a few good resources.

I have tried to raise them to "like what they like" and not worry with what others think is ok to like.

By the way... I like your set up and will really like your new set up..

Nice setup man. I like seeing how people incorporate a HT into a real "living room" as i'm trying to do the same thing. Panny plasma and Energy speakers - great picks!

Seriously though, good upgrade, how does it sound now? Any immediate improvements that you can tell? Are you keeping your fronts small or letting them go full range and then deciding the best cutoff point for the sub? Any desire to get a new center to match? I will agree that you need something for acoustic treatment. Rugs, paintings, curtains, anything. I'm sure you have a pretty reflective room at the moment and that's affecting your soundstage more than you might realize.

All in all though I like your setup and look forward to seeing you update us on any improvements you make.

Definitely! I noticed the echo died down a bit with the thicker/larger carpet and a bit with the "insulated" printed canvas (stuffed with 2" Auralex Studiofoam Wedges). Once I placed the acoustical panels, it was a world of difference. I agree I need a handful more to fully gain sound absorption, but it absolutely does help. Take in mind that my living room was surrounded by drywall, tile and sheetrock (rear surround wall). Thanks

Very nicelly done, kind of similiar look to mine since I have the same media cabinet and tv hanged on the wall. How does your surround sound like? As for Twilight, my daughter loves those movies and so does my wife therefore I have them on bluray aswell, nothing wrong with that when you have a family.

I Sold my month old Aperion setup (4T/5C/4DB/Bravus II Sub) and went back to using my Energy speakers for surrounds and subwoofer (temporary).
