I'm having that problem (DVD playback) with mine too. It's odd because I can put a disk in and it will read it fine. I put the same disk in the next day and it won't read. One trick that I've found that seems to work fairly consistently is just after you turn the unit on it goes to the main menu screen. Then it flashes away as it tries to load the DVD menu. As soon as it flashes away press the MENU button the remote. I usually keep pushing it until it goes back to the menu. If you don't do it quickly enough it won't work. But once you get back to the menu, press "A" on the remote, select "DVD" and then "Enter". It takes it straight to the video, bypassing the menu.
Even though I seem to have found a work-around this drives me bonkers. I'm having another issue where Netflix freezes at least 50% of the time during loading. When it does load it takes 2 or 3 minutes to do so. But when it freezes I have to turn the thing off and then on again, go back into the Netflix app and wait another 3 minutes to try again. I haven't found a work-around for this yet. When it finally loads it plays great. Good picture quality, no rebuffering. But it usually takes me 10 minutes to get there.
These two issues are really bugging me. I've heard that if I buy a 2011 model Samsung blu-ray all of these issues are solved. Can anyone confirm that? I'm tempted to bag Samsung and move to a Sony. Any advice?
