Hi,
Thinking about buying this bluray player, what are the major differences between this one and the 2011 model (D5500) other than 3D stuff?
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to change the Internet@TV region on this player (I don't mean the bluray/dvd region) to another country like with the TV? (i.e. with the >>, 289, << trick)

How come this player will not play some of my DVD's? The dads that I want to play were recorder in other regions which are non NTSC. I was told this player should play all DVD's do I need too upgrade the firmware? I brought this maybe 6 months ago and never got to hooking it up until now due to personal reasons.

Any advice will be great.

I have a samsung bd-c5500.
while using internet application and watching them, the "samsung" logo screen saver kicks in.. there have been other threads on this but one of them was 25 to 50 pages long..

Has anyone found an answer to this?

I did update to latest firmware

I am using a wireless dongle and am getting good results. However, when I put a USB storage device (2gig) in the front slot, it is not recognized by any disc or BDLive as additional storage. Anyone know how to get the unit to recognize the front USB as additional storage? It works when I have music or pictures, but NOT for storage.

Is that an empty memory stick? The player seems to require a certain amount of free memory on the stick before it will use it.

Hi,

I've tried to search this thread but couldn't find the answer. When playing Blu-Ray discs I have no problem with TrueHD or HD-MA, it send it to my NAD receiver quite fine. For MKVs though it gives an "incompatible audio" error, or otherwise doesn't show an error but simply doesn't play audio.

Is HD audio in MKVs not supported or am I doing something wrong? I've checked the files and they otherwise play fine, and I've ensured there is no header compression, any other audio tracks in the file play fine, it just wont bistream.

You can use NTFS for data playback but BDLive requires FAT as the format method. You also have to go into BD Data Management and tell it to use the device for storage each time you plug it in. (pg 35 in my version of the owner's manual)

What particular application are you talking about? I only really use Netflix and local streaming and only time I get the screensaver is if streaming music only.

Thanks for the help. I did need to reformat to FAT. Now it works EXCEPT with 20th Century Fox titles. OK I tried TWO. Neither Avatar nor Narnia/Dawn Treader, Sound of Music works when the BD Manager recoginzes the memory. When I remove the memory the movie loads and plays; otherwise it freezes.

So far WB, Disney and Paramount all work, so whats up with Fox?

BDC5500

1) 1023 firmware will not download - the progress bar keeps resetting to 0. Closest I've ever gotten to 100% is 75%...
2) VuDu will not finish its upgrade - locks up at 100% and doesn't complete. Hence, I am unable to use any apps except those in the favorite bar, since everytime I go to the apps area, it automatically tries to upgrade VuDu.
3) Other funky issues with the last Mezzmo upgrade. Primarily related to the server disconnecting for no reason.

Any comments/help would be appreciated. Thx

have you tried updating using the usb method you can download the firrmware from samsungs website. other note just received the 1024 update this morning anybody have any ideas what it updated?

Tried downloading 1024. After 4 attempts, it succeeeded in finishing the download but failed to install, giving me an installation error.

Might be time to do a hard reset on the player? I'll hunt to see what this involves...

On another rant, it feels like Mezzmo is transcoding everything now and I can't figure out how to turn it off.

Well that's a great question. Ever since the last upgrade [2.4.5], things have been wonky [disconnects - which implied transcoding...]. The only solution I could find that allowed some semblance of similarity to the previous release was using the 3D version of the profile.

By comparing the two profiles, I've been attempting to determine the differences. I'll try and make the regular profile work based on your comments here.

Anybody had a chance to try the new firmware version 1024 with playback of mkv files yet? Have Samsung broken anything new?

I see that firmware version 1024 adds support for CinemaNow in Canada - not that it's likely to see much use with even old movies renting for $4.99 per view and no promotional offers to try it out.

haven't seen any new issues with it but still need to make sure mkv's were made with older versions of mmg if you want to fast forward or skip.

can't help you much with mezzmo, i use serviio for mine. after one of the firmware upgrades serviio decided it didn't want to use the samsung profile and it kept disconnecting like your's is i uninstalled/reinstalled and then it kept the profile setting

Have the latest FW. Tried playing this file via USB. It's a .avi container with mpeg-4 video codec and the following AC3 audio codec. It will play the video, tells me the audio codec is not supported, and there is no sound. Other files with AC3 audio play just fine. How can it support some AC3 and not others?

My Samsung BD-C5500 connects beautifully to my MythTV server (via DLNA) and plays all the captured MPEG-2 files brilliantly. I can skip forward (> key) and back (< key) on files recorded from the local PBS affiliates (KRMA and KBDI in Denver), but not on any of the recordings of programs from commercial stations.

Is there some flag embedded in the recorded streams that allows or denies skipping capability on this player?

On all programs, the "real" skip-back key (|<<) jumps back to the beginning of the file, but neither the skip-forward (>>|), fast-forward (>>) or fast-reverse (>>) keys work on any recorded programs.

Try a recode using FFMpeg to MKV. IOW, ffmpeg -i input_file -vcodec copy -acodec copy out_file.mkv . It should play the audio then.

What's the best known "good" firmware version? 1021.4?

Or has 1024.0 fixed the issues experienced since 1021.4? (ff/rw mkvs in particular)

Firmware versions may often just be keeping up with the latest tricks the studios want to put in their DRM. This is the downside of Bluray that unless the user keeps up with these they may find a new disc that won't play.
