Official Samsung BD-C5500 master owner's thread - Page 14

Has anyone played regular DVD's. I was watching "Inglourious Basterds" and noticed some strange lines in areas when people blinked and around the lips when they were moving. Then I noticed larger areas when when scenes changed. I have the 5500 and 6500 and both do it on a Sumsung and a Hitachi. It's not a all the time thing just now and then. I have a Philips DB player and they play fine. Also tried a Panasonic with up convert HDMI output and OK. The 5500 and 6500 are I assume doing the up convert for regular DVD's. Tried some settings with no change. The fact it does it on two different brands HDTV's eliminates that and they play ok in another brand BD player says Samsung has a problem. Anyone experienced this?

I haven't seen that but I did encounter a scratched Blu-Ray that wouldn't play in the PS3 Slim but would play on the Samsung. It froze in a couple parts and skipped 10 minutes early in the movie. Another bad disk from Blockbuster. My membership ends today. (Going with Netflix now.)

I couldn't play the JCVD Bluray on my player. Netflix sent another one and it wouldn't play either. Weird. I still should contact the studio to see if they know about it. That's about a two year old BD so there should be no problems and discs looked okay. I may just have Netflix send the DVD instead. JCVD is a critically acclaimed comedy about Jean-Claude Van Damme playing himself.

Thanks. That appears to be original aspect ratio but not original resolution. The setting for output resolution like on the instruction page above appears to be the determiner of the resolution but not ratio.

Unfortunately i cannot download the manual since the doc on the site appears to link to a corrupted doc. Do you have a more complete description or informarion from screen readouts?

Both manuals (English and English/French) showed all pages for me. I would download again.

Interesting, still crashes at random for me on different setups. Only pdf I know of that doesnt work for me.

But since it crashed at different places i was able to verify my earlier understanding of the setup menus.

Are you saving to PC first. Maybe it is an internet bandwidth issue. I did look at them through internet though. /Dan

Yep saved offline. Strange. But it seems I was able to see what I needed to.

Tried another computer, and it worked. Found a full more mentions of the "Full Screen" button, which is a zoom function, unrelated to preserving resolution.

Still, none of the competition seems to preserve the original resolution and other than that, this unit seems ideal for what I need (backup Blu-ray, but primarily for streaming Vudu HDX and Netflix HD).

The c5500 has a Vudu app, right? I read somewhere that Samsung has decided to limit Vudu to their 3D players only. They wouldn't take the Vudu app away from the c5500, would they?

Another question...will I be able to play my iTunes music library via AllShare through the C5500?

Yes, if you set up your media server software to access that library.

I got the update yesterday that installed the Facebook app. Setting that up was a real trip. You need to first set up your Samsung log in and then set up your facebook log in. What were these guys smoking when they designed the GUI for inputting the user name and password for that app? Eventually I got it and realized you need to be logged in to your Samsung account on the device in order for it to take the FB log in that you set up.

As far as the app itself, it's better that the telepop implementation that the DirecTV HD receivers offer via TV Apps. For that you just get a few pages of news feeds. Here there's actually some level of interactivity offered. For example, you could post etc.

Can someone please test an AVI from a Vado HD on your c5500 please? I want to make sure I will be able to reliably stream my home videos if I buy the player. Here is a link to a small sample.. FYI It's HD so please see if the aspect ratio etc is right.
perian-discuss.googlegroups.com/web/VID00106.AVI

you have to browse there and then click the dynamic link. I didn't post this fyi.

Zodiacal, I played it with my BD-5500C. It was streaming from a Windows Vista SP2 64-bit system running Samsung PC Share Manager 4.2.

First of all that was a frightening video! Seriously, the video played fluidly and the aspect ratio seemed to match my 16:9 TV. However, a message popped up saying 'audio codec not supported'. I couldn't hear any sound. On my computer I hear the sound.

mikeny, Thank You for testing it! What does Samsung PC Share Manager do? does it transcode it? Or is it special media streamer? Can this device just connect to a windows shared drive? p.s. it's damn hard to find a raw avi for this camera online... everyone just uploads their videos to youtube instead. Maybe it's cuz of the 8Mbps size. anyways. if there's no sound that's a deal breaker for me... although i'm not too surprised every time i try to edit this format in many different programs they can't handle the sound for some reason.

No, it can't just play from windows shares. That would be awesome and so so so much easier. Instead, you have to run DLNA software. Samsung has a free one on their website called PC Share Manager and it supports same formats the player supports. There's lots of other software that can do the same thing... some free, some cost, some that do transcoding.... also I've read (but no personal experience) that with win7 there is something built in with their media player or something that can work. Unlike a simple smb share, the DLNA software takes CPU resources, of course trans coding takes way more.

You can also play from USB or from disc. It supports the same files as PCSM, but often gives you more features (like some files wont rew/ff thru pcsm but will when played from disc or usb or both, etc).

ugg dlna... ok welp i'll probably keep this device in my shopping list, but i would really rather have something a little more straight forward when it comes to streaming... Thank you very much for the info!

does the dlna server or client tell you if it's transcoding? also, does netflix have to run though this dlna server? sorry for a million posts.. i just like to be thorough before i purchase a device... this seems like the best value so far... if theres a way to get my home movies to play that is..
The BD-C5500 will play Netflix directly; no local server required.

Thanks. I realized that after posting my firmware. After not being able to update the firmware via internet, ("upgrade file doesn't match model" message nonsense) I then tried via microSD inside a Mobile Mate USB adapter. That didn't work. The player never prompted me to update. It sees all the other files on the card but the firmware process never started. I thought that was supposed to be automatic but in any case I then burned the file to a CD and was finally able to update to 1015.4.

However I got the same results with your video.

PS Now when I try to update via internet it says "update file is the latest".

I think you'd need to remove all files except the firmware from the USB device for it to recognize it.

Grrrrrr. This Samsung/Netflix piece of crap did it again. I thought maybe they fixed the problem of asking for the activation code over and over. Nope. Got it twice in the past three days. How hard can it be to send an identity code to Netflix? It's not like Netflix is some random website. The two companies built their systems to work together. They advertise each other as officially supported and designed.

They have been working on a fix (supposedly) since March. I'm beginning to get the feeling that this is one of those problems that isn't going to be solved. Like the Samsung buzz.

If you can, you should probably return your C5500. I returned mine ~1 month ago just because of the constant Netflix re-activation. I switched to an LG BD570 and only had to activate Netflix the first time I plugged it in. Note that the LG is plugged in to the same network cable that my previous C5500 was connected with, so I do not believe the re-activation issue was due to my network connection. The firmware on the LG has been updated twice since I plugged it in and the Netflix connection has not faltered. As an added bonus, the BD570 has a much better Netflix interface (although it does lack a search feature).

Hey guys, I got the C5500 and I have it hooked up via ethernet to my router. I see a share folder with music, video, pictures, etc. through the C5500 but I don't have any files in those folders. I highlighted and let my whole "my documents" load into Samsung PC Share Manager but I can't figure out how to access them from the C5500. Any ideas?

I wonder why the code sticks for some because like I posted a few pages back I've only entered it one time for the initial setup and it's always just worked. I use an ethernet connection to a D-Link DGS-2205 gigabit switch to a D-Link DIR-825 router.

I hope you guys get it straightened out.

Did you allow the device to have permission from within the GUI of PC Share Manager? Did you refresh your database? Did you check your firewall settings?
