Yeah, the lady likes LG brand, my budget is around 1400, so the 550 is saving me some $$(hopefully for calibration). If I upgrade and stay on the LG brand it will have to be a 950 since I don't think the 750 is worth it just for the networking extras, but then I'm going out of budget

Long story short story: on the AVS thread about the pannys black "problem", it was reported many times that with the MML increasing, the IR got higher too . There is a technical explanation about that, but because of my bad english, it is a bit hard to me to explain that thing.

The only big difference that I know off between the 750 & 950 is that the 950 has the TruBlack filter. But this would only make day-time viewing easier. If you are using a light controlled room or viewing mainly at night, then it wouldn't really make that much of a difference.

Not sure if it matters to most, or if it affects only european pk950 but:

During CES LG talked about the Magic Remote that should come with PK950 but it seems that only the LX9500 will be getting the Magic Remote.

CR for the 750 and 950 are 3M:1 and 5M:1 respectively. Don't know if anyone cares but it IS a difference...

you know what I'm ready for a TV and can't wait any longer, I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Samsung 63" PN63B550 for a hell of nice price. And I will still have $1k left in my pocket. I'm just hoping I don't get a directional buzzer like the PN58B650 I had earlier this year. What should I do?

Cleveland Plasma your thoughts please?

my .02: if you're really sensitive to buzz, then you're wasting your time with the sammy. personally, buzz drives me crazy and if i bought a set that had very audible directional buzz it would be going back to the store in an instant. do you really want to deal with that? what if it begins to buzz the day after warranty ends? i think that the 750 will prove to be a super set simply based on chad's review of the 550. heck, im going to be getting the 60pk750 myself - assuming all is kosher with that model once chad's review is released (no reason it won't be, but i'm not too much of a risk taker ). i guess you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place - new, unproven set with lots of potential vs. a sammy with potential buzz and an undesirable customer service department. if i were you, i'd just go with the LG.

you right man, I'm not gonna risk it. I already had an experience with a Sammy. The review on the PK550 by Chad is really nice. Now is just deciding if I should just get the 60PK750 instead of the 60PK950. Thanks again for your 2 cents.

I take it we are talking about the 60PK750 ? Buy the LG. Great set overall, still less than the samsung.

The PK750 unit had some anomalies in the menu system for adjustments. The PK550 was not like this, so we want to test another PK750 before we release the review. That will be 2-3 weeks. Either way the PK750 tested excellent, just a matter of how excellent.

thanks for the input CP, I will wait for the 750 review and then make my decision on which LG model. I'm just having a hard time deciding if the extra features on the 750 or even the 950 are worth the extra hundreds.

Just wanted to post my experience:
I went to my local sears last night and they had both the PK750 and PK550 on display!

The two sets were in different isles so I was able to compare both against LCD and plasma displays from samsung, Sony, sharp, Panasonic. Also the remotes were available for all the sets so I was able to adjust the settings from the super bright store shelf level for comparison.

Ok, for both sets, 550 and the 750.... They just looked washed out and dull compared to every other TV around them! I adjusted, and re adjusted and I could not get them to look vibrant compared to the panny and samsung plasmas and the samsung and sony LCD's! I was really disappointed overall with both sets! I know that they were being run off the store feed over coax, but so was every other TV that I compared these too!

There was an LG LCD (sorry forgot the model) that was next to the 550, and the picture looked great, not dull or washed out!

I know this was a very unscientific test done in a store... but It was really obvious how much less vibrant and detailed the LG's looked compared to the other sets on the shelves. I even looked back from half way across the store and could tell which one the LG was because it looked dull!

I had high hopes for these, and I was seriously considering one... but after seeing them in person Im really re-thinking it!

Anyone else notice this when comparing?

Any idea on when the 60" 750 is dropping?

I actually got to see a 750 and a 550 right next to a Panny G25 at the Chattanooga TN HHGregg. The G25 blew the LG'S away. It wasn't even close, which makes me REALLY sad because I have really been hoping the LG would come through.

Based on the reviews so far though, it may just boil down to Panasonic being the best OOTB TV. Obviously, once calibrated, the LG seems to be close if not equal to the G25.

@Cleveland Plasma:

Chris, this is just asking your personal opinion, not facts or measurements:

Out of all the 2010 sets you've seen, reviewed, demoed, etc so far, which would be your favorite at this point?

The only stipulation is that this is based on PQ, not necessarily style, features (for example 3D). Simply, what is the best looking 2010 set you've seen thus far?

Also, if you can tell us, were the black levels on the PK750 the same as the 550 or better/worse?

Thank you so much for your help!

please please please don't judge a set by how it looks in torch mode at the store. i think you're right on about panny's having the best initial settings, but don't let that (and the torch mode at the store) drive you away from other panels that might be better in the long run.

The G20 has supposedly one of the best AR filters. No surprise it looked better than the LG in the store.

Did you check the power saving options on the LG?

They are the brightness plasma around there, if all settings are right

LCDs are another story about brightness, but I don't like them so much for other reasons. At home, brightness is really not a problem for plasma displays.

Yes I did, and it wasn't a case of the LG being dark... they were bright, they were just washed out!

And yes most of the LCD's I had to turn the brightness way down to be close to the level of the plasmas

So, the reasons could be the following:

1. Reflections from external lights.

2. Gamma setting, or not the best Gamma with the correct setting or with any Gamma setting.

In case of reflections, remember that at home we usually have different kind of lights from those used in many shops.
I think the panasonics have been purposely designed to perform well with ambient light. My next tv will be for bluray viewing in a completely darkened room. Pending further reviews it will be either the Pk750 or 950.

The reflections from the lights were the same for every TV there! They were all sitting on the shelf or hanging on the wall in the same room so the lights would have affected all the TV's in the same way! and since there were so many different types, models, brands side by side, and the LG's were the only washed out sets, I guess it could be the LG anti reflective coating?? But the LG's were the only TV's that looked washed out or dull.

Like I said I played with settings, regular and advanced! I'm not a professional TV calibrator but it didn't take professional eyes to see the obvious differences between the LG's and the other surrounding TV's.

Im not bashing... I really wanted to like these TV'S!! I
post #146 of 830
Have you seen also the PK950? That seems to be the only U.S. model with the TrueBlack filter.

ps. not all the filters against reflections are working in the same way. There are different kind of lights, like Neon, Fluorescent bulbs, energy saving, etc, and they can have different color temperature (Kelvin °). A filter could do a better work in one case, while another filter could do the same but with a different kind of light. The best thing, if you have that problem (reflections) at home, would be to test the TV at your home

again, you are comparing torch mode settings. unless you have nuclear lighting in your house, you will never use the torch mode at home. if you're heck bent on getting super bright, jump-out-at-you colors then i would suggest an LED-backlit LCD (at the expense of black levels). you have to understand that plasmas are only at their best under ambient or dark conditions. trust the reviews, not what your eyes tell you in the store!
Like I posted in the 550 wonder how this stacks up to the B860, looking at these three?

Anyone have any idea or estimate when we may start seeing the PK950 in stores or online?

No I was not comparing torch mode... I stated in my original post that the remotes were available for all the TV's and that I was able to adjust each tv! I spent lots of time with the remotes in hand adjusting and readjusting! I did not compare anything in Torch mode!

I currently have a Samsung Plasma, 2007 model FP-t5084. so I am used to watching plasma at home!
