This is noticeable and can also be seen in some flesh tones. There are also some problems in lower IRE, but that isn't as frequently noticeable.

Is that the sort of bright pinkish color I see in the flesh tones?
It's not always there and overall the picture is excellent but somehow sometimes on someones faces (most notable, probably on other parts too) there's a color that just isn't right. I must say that I see it more when watching normal SDTV then watching HD material.

I just turned on the set & I now have a black bar, probably 25-30% of the size of the screen, running through the 1st & 2nd quarters of the screen from the top. I'll try to get an image up later when I find the charger for my camera.
I also notice some strange flesh tones sometimes, particularly the anchor when I was watching ABC Nightly News. I wonder if this could be a color shift issue because at other times, the image, including flesh tones, looks great.
Right plug, wrong charger. I found the charger for a different camera, so when that battery is charged I'll have pictures up. The black bar is still there, so at least it's something that wont disappear when the repair guy gets here.

I was able to get a shot of it, but it's not the best because of the reflections in the glass. Where you see the reflection of the verticals in front of the window should be an all black band. I will be mounting black out shades soon, hopefully this week.

Yikes! I had been excited about my 50PK550 coming this Friday, but after reading about all of these issues being reported recently, I'm getting nervous. :-|

Wow , that's some serious glare.

Please share your thoughts after your new shades , I'm seriously considering the 60" but have 3 windows facing the tv I'm afraid of.

Great tv for the money but the glare could be a major problem in my living room.

Perhaps:

1. I have a faulty set.
2. My set was made in Feb 2010, perhaps this was an early problem and newer sets don't have it.
3. People put up with the buzz and don't complain about it (unlikely I think).

An LG tech said it was normal, but I find it hard to believe that BUZZing that loud is normal. My Pioneer 5080HD doesn't have this issue.

So, do you hear buzzing from the TV while watching TV from your normal viewing position? I have the 60" version. Thanks.

My 50PK550 was made in Feb 2010 as well, and when I'm running the break-in slides, I can hear the buzzing from about 6-7 feet away. Maybe there is something wrong with the older ones? I can even hear the buzzing over my A/C unit which is right next to me in my window and the TV is about 4 feet from the A/C.

Any chance you'll be returning/exchanging this latest set, sounds like you have a pretty big dud with flashing/dead pixels, lint behind the screen and buzzing.

I know i wouldn't torture myself any further.

Hehe, yea I'm going to be exchanging it, my parents won't let up on the "I'm too picky" thing but my god. They say that the store will refuse to serve me because I keep exchanging things. It's my fault that there are things wrong with it apparently.

I don't blame you , I'm the same way. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks , it's your money and you have to live with it or NOT !

Maybe some day these manufacturers will actually take QC seriously . Or they can stock pile returns

Heh, I just called BestBuy and explained the problem and the guy said to bring it in, and go from there. I got his name and were going to talk to him when we go there. I'm just going to exchange it, I don't want a Panasonic for obvious reasons, and the Samsungs's 24p has it's own issues. The LG is the only safe bet this year it seems.

He said he'd never heard of debris/whatever the junk is behind the glass before. It seems like I buy things with problems that people have never heard of.

Good luck !

I understand , I have critical eyes and once I see something I always see it !

I ordered a single Roman shade to test fit, but of course that got screwed up. It took 10 days for the company to admit an issue & that it got lost or stolen. I ordered 2 more, there are 3 windows, but all they did was cancel the order for the single shade & then ship the other 2. I will hopefully have an idea about the light control of the shade sometime late this week. The glare was less of an issue with a LCD TV, but it still was noticeable when the sun was at its most visible through the windows.

Mine was manufactured in April of 2010 & it didn't buzz when I ran the break in slides.

The service guy is not going to be here until the end of the month. The last 2 TV's I've bought, the other was a TOL Samsung LCD, have both had to be repaired because of serious screen issues in the 1st 90 days of use. Maybe that says something about Korean QC?

Does the PK540 versions of this TV sold at Sam's Club have the same PQ and general specs as the 550 versions sold elsewhere? What about the various picture modes, picture wizard and fine tuning features? Is it the same TV or lacking some features?
Hi, I have PK550 for 2 and a half mouths now.
No break in slides and only full screen content.
Is it safe to start watching content with black bars without the fear of burn in?

Don't worry about it - just watch it as you like. Far too much is made of this and it's not really a major issue on modern Plasma's, you'll get mild image retention but this isn't permanent "Burn in". Mine's a couple of months old, if I watch a film with bars you can see a mild shadow of them for about 5 minutes after if you switch to fullscreen content, you have to look hard for it though and my girlfriend who isn't aware of these things never mentions it.

There is far too much scare-mongering on forums about this kind of thing and other problems that are apparent in all sets (I read much about stuck pixels and "dirty" image shadowing problems - then when I looked for them noticed exactly that, to a worse degree, on my cousin's 40" Samsung LCD!).

Completely agree. Don't worry so much and play & enjoy whatever content you wish on this TV.

I only here some buzzing when the screen is on the brighter end of the white slides, but then again, it is using FULL POWER to make that happen.

Beyond those 3 slides, my PK550 is silent

Well it seems I toned it down a bit. Have to check/watch more if it's still there but I haven't noticed it last night.
I think it has something to do with the Color option in ISF Expert. I set that to 48, Tint at 0, Contrast at 79, Brightness at 53 (depending on the input, I have to set it higher on the PS3 as opposed to AV/TV) put the Color Gamut to Wide and in CMS turned down the Red Contrast a bit (-5 from memory) and the Red Tint a bit up (+3).
That gave a good picture without strange/pinkish flesh tone.
Mind you I set Color Temp to Medium, it's a personal preference, probably not the best setting when having it calibrated. But I trust my eyes.

Well I just got mine exchanged. Bright red flashing pixel on it. I can't believe it. I'm returning this set and I'm not getting another one. I'm done with LG for now. I'm either going to wait and buy another LG later in the year and hopefully the newer sets will be fine, or buy a Samsung, or wait until next years Panasonics.

Not very impressed here LG!

Back to my old reliable Samsung LCD for now.

Hi Guys,

I just received my 50PK550 and BD570 BR player(to replace my 50pk750)
One word : WOW
he does buzz a little and has one red pixel but for the rest the image is ok

I noticed when i deactivate xvYCC on the hdmi expert setting that
the blacks get a lot blacker and the green dots go away
anyone noticed this ?
the picture looks better (but maybe a bit black crush)

by the way its a Belgian PK550 with Divx and Bluetooth
it has Firmware V3.19 !

ps: I had to connect the hdmi v1.3 BR player to be able to disable xvYCC on the hdmi (it didn't work with my cable box hdmi 1.1, was greyed)

ciao

That stinks. My set has 1 dead pixel, and I can't see it from 5 feet back and it's only noticeable when running the red and blue slides. I was going to exchange it, but I honestly didn't want to go through the hassle for something so minor. You have every right, though, as the customer to demand a perfect product. It's your money in the end.

I actually consider myself lucky in that every one else seems to have to go through a few sets before finding a decent one.
Same here, first time lucky (bought back in April). So far no issues with my 50PK550.

The horror stories are gruesome. I wonder what the actual rejection rate is and how it compares to the rates of Panasonic and Samsung plasma.

I imagine the only way LG can make these TVs so cheap is by "increasing the production yield" i.e. letting through a number of borderline duffers.
I just got a 50pk550. I haven't and won't look for dead pixels because I don't notice any from my seating distance. However I see marks on mostly white or grey backgrounds. I'm not sure how to describe the marks but it almost is like liking through a dirty window.

Yes I tried to clean the screen but they are still there. Has anyone else seen this?

Yes..on my Pioneer Kuro 6020..same issue. It might get better with time but don't count on it. There is no fix..if it bugs you take it back. On mine it really looks bad on vertical pans of solid light colors. I bought my set used so am stuck. Otherwise I love it though.

But I wonder what all these returns cost them and what they do with the returned units.

Nobody puts out 100% 'perfect' products. If they did we would pay a lot more for these things. They roll the dice and figure that most people will put up with minor issues. AVS Forum people are way pickier than the general public about defects on tv's.
