I don't think it's the technology, just poor QC - these "dirty" areas don't move, they are in one place so it's most likely some kind of dirt/residue inside the panel - it's annoying but mainly only visible on pans of solid colour, sometimes it bugs you sometimes it doesn't, depends on the content but I find I can live with it as the rest of the set has no problems.

Is there anyway to fix this? I don't think it's a major problem because I'm not doing any critical viewing on this set but it's disappointing nonetheless when I notice it!

My Panasonic didn't have the issue. I am sure they vary from sample to sample. I would return yours if it bugs you.

I wonder if it is 'dirt', or maybe uneven phospher brightness in areas of the panel...could be either one really.

Good question. They'll take flak from retailers too. I'm curious to know what the story is (what % returns) and what if anything they'll do next year.

It bugs me because it's noticeable enough but it's not easy for me to return a 50" tv unless hhgregg is willing to come to the house and exchange it for me. Just sounds like the issue is hit or miss and an exchange won't guarantee anything.

I bought this so I would stop using my projector as often but that probably won't be the case now.

I guess your definition and my definition of "easy" differ with a $1000 item. I'd rent a truck from Home Depot if I had to.

Did HH Gregg deliver it? If so they will swap it out for 14 days. I went through THREE Whirlpool refigerators recently to get a good one. They cheerfully swapped them out each time. Talk to the store manager and the sooner the better...don't let your 14 days run out.

My friend picked it up from hhgregg. My concern is that I really don't want to get the same issue over and over again. From the sounds of it this is pretty common.

They would probably deliver a new one and pick the old one up if you pay for it. If you are not happy I would def try another one. I made the mistake of getting a SXRD, and after the 2nd one was still not right I gave up and kept it when I could have gotten a refund...BIG mistake that ended up being a 6 month battle with Sony until they finally hauled it away and refunded my money. Try another one, and if still not happy get your money back. Before that though I would look at the display models at stores and see if you notice the same issues. If so you may just want to move on and get your money back now.

I'll go to the store and look at the display unit on Friday. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably just return the set of the display unit looks similar.

ONE PROBLEM THAT I NEED HELP WITH!!!
I can't get our Comcast remote to recognize the TV! I tried the methods/code they have listed here http://www.comcast.com/MediaLibrary/...ents/codes.pdf but it didn't work for me.
IF ANYONE ELSE WITH COMCAST CAN LET ME KNOW IF/HOW THEY PROGRAMED THEIRS, I'd appreciate it. I tried calling but they told me that they would have to send a tech out and they charge you like 25 bucks to do that. Ridiculous. Thought I'd check here before going that route.

Thanks,
Justin

Not very impressed here LG!

Back to my old reliable Samsung LCD for now.

I exchange 4 PK550 to have one without dead pixels i do not recommend to buy it online.is a great tv but multiple dead pixels is common on this set dont know why but is proof other than that it have a perfect 24hz and a awesome picture quality with a lot of room to tweak the picture with 2 isf calibration modes i have the 60"pk550 i don't regret the purchase even with 4 exchange is the best bang for your buck.worth every penny.

Yea, maybe later this year I'll buy another one, and hopefully the newer ones will have no issues, or maybe buy a Samsung Plasma, or I might consider waiting for next year's models from either Samsung, Panasonic or LG.

I just really want to have a new TV.

You do realize often times dead pixels will go away as the TV gets broken in. I had 3 on my screen the two that blinked red and white went away after about 80 hours or so. The other one only shows up on blue colors and even then I have to be about 2 or 3 feet from the screen. Honestly if there is only one flashing pixel I'd consider it win. These things happen with every other manufacturer. Anyone here can tell you no TV is perfect. One or two dead pixels is going to happen at some point. With 2,052,000 pixels on the screen it's amazing there aren't more dead ones.

The one TV had 3 or 4 stuck pixels, that didn't go away after more than 200 hours.

I still might get another sometime later on, maybe, maybe not. Haven't had good experiences with LG's TVs recently obviously. It sucks because the LG pk550 TVs seem to be the only safe bets this year, proper 24p playback, great blacks that stay that way, great color accuracy etc. I might wait a few months and get another, we'll see I guess.

Typical Comcast. They threw the thieves running it in jail & then new thieves took over. They try to nickel & dime you to death. As far as I know, they are the only cable company that charges for the NFL Network. I once called them to ask what I paid for monthly in a way of an itemized channel list. They told me they don't have one to mail out. That figures because channels come & go with them all of the time, & without notice.

I am just about ready to pull the trigger on a 60PK550, is there any reason for me to hold off? I saw that a few weeks ago you could get a free BD player with it from a number of retailers. Does LG often offer incentives in the form or BD players or price drops? Amazon's price is trickling down so I feel like it could continue to drop.

It was between this or a PN58C590, am I making the right choice?

BTW I am planning on getting it ISF calibrated eventually.

Edit:

I pulled the trigger.. Amazon dropped the price below my threshhold.. and its coming 8/31

OK so my new LG 50" 1080p plasma is coming today and I am swollen with anticipation. I had heard that some break in time is needed and the definition of breakin is up to debate.

Can I switch the plasma to a no reception tv channel (no antenna hooked up so should be easy) and let it run over night?

Also, how low should I set the contrast and the brightness?

I get it this afternoon and will imediately start it thought its burn in and was hoping something like that would work.

Been running the slides an hour or so a day. Have already noticed that the frequency of IR is going down.

Ive only had the TV about a week. Maybe 25 hours on it
post #3324 of 5203
Is there any way to check on the TV the time usage?

I got a "replacement" sent from Amazon today, but I rejected it... here is my current 3-star Amazon.com review for the 60PK550 with more details:

Quote:

I've decided to try to exchange mine. There are two big issues:
* It buzzes loud enough to hear at my normal listening position. I haven't read many complaints about this so I assume this isn't normal. UPDATE: Tightening the back screws helped reduce the buzz.
* There's a piece of lint under the glass that is annoying and distracting (see photo I uploaded). Can't really see from normal viewing position, but combined with issue #1, I'm not happy.

Good things:
* Relatively inexpensive for a 60" TV
* Does have some great picture quality, but unfortunately black level doesn't seem to be as good as my older Pioneer 5080HD, but it's still pretty good when the brightness is adjusted down a bit
* Proper viewing/processing of 24P material like Blu-ray movies

Other cons:
* Relatively highly reflective screen - so windows or lights in the background could be a problem
* Questionable quality control

Other:
* My TV was manufactured in Feb 2010, even though I received it in August, 2010

UPDATE on 2010-08-26:
* My replacement came today (thanks Amazon for great service - I highly recommend you buy from them).
* The new set (also manufactured in Feb 2010, even though I ordered in August, 2010) also had buzzing and had screen defects as well, in at least 3 places (I did a white wash to see them). I did not accept this set. It also made a popping noise while doing the white wash, which concerned me.
* I'm going to keep my old set. I later learned that I was able to significantly reduce the buzzing my tightening the screws in the back (which I learned from messages about this issue posted on the Internet). Unfortunately the LG tech didn't know about the "screw tightening trick" and just said the buzzing was normal, but when I heard the buzzing while watching TV from my normal viewing position about 12.5 feet away, I decided that amount of buzzing couldn't be normal. I've since reduced the buzzing by tightening the screws. The buzzing is still there, but it's not so bad anymore.

I'm sticking with my 3 star rating because of the quality control issues with this set, the buzzing, and the highly reflective screen, but it can produce some great picture quality.

I haven't forgotten, but I'm having another issue with delivery. The package made the local hub too late to go on a truck, or so I thought. I just checked & the UPS website states "Tendered to local post office". Now WTF? I live in a densely populated area & have never had UPS hand off a package to the USPS. I'd really like to find out if they fit so that I can mount them or return them. If they do fit I'll take pictures from the same view as the original shot so that the difference can be seen. It doesn't make sense to me to return a set because of glare if an inexpensive fix makes the issue go away.

I hear you on finding a solution rather than a return. Look forward to your pics when you can.

I had UPS do that to me just this week too. However my package was small so I figured it had to do with size. I live in the Tampa area so to say the least I found it odd as well. So much for service , now UPS passes the buck instead of fulfilling their obligation ?
For those who have buzzing issues you may want to try to make sure all the screws on the back of the panel are tight. I noticed when running break in slides during the white slide the tv would buzz, which is normal for a plasma, but the next time it buzzed I used my fingers and squeezed the black bezel near the middle of the screen on the left side(when facing tv) and the buzzing immediately stopped so I think it's something straining while outputting bright images and either vibrating or rubbing against something. I tightened the screws with a hand screw driver a little bit and don't hear any more buzzing.

It's cheaper... you must have gotten the cheapest (or one of the cheapest) shipping methods. Buy.com uses this method too, for a lot of their "FREE shipping" stuff.

How dark is the black level on your set? This is the only issue that is bugging me. The blacks on mine are not very dark. When watching at night, I use a 6500K bias light behind the set, and when there is no image being fed, the screen is as dark as the bezel (can not tell them apart). BUT, as soon as an image comes on, even if it's just some text, the black level jumps by a large amount and appears as dark-grey. I get real picky at times (minor OCD here), but when playing games or watching movies and there is a very dark scene, I can definitely tell it is not black.
