Alright, I updated my calibrated post with new settings which get the greyscale pretty close and color more accurate. I used an i1DisplayLT + ColorHCFR.

I could not find your calibration settings post. Mind you I'm using the Avs app for iPhone and the search function is broken. Could someone link to it?

Hey fairchild, i was thinking about your panny after i saw your name pop on here, you've had it a few months now, have any of the stock parts pooped yet? My TV has turned 1 year this feb and is still going strong on the replacement parts. It will be 1 year from service in July.

Hope all is going well for you still.

I've had it for about 6 months now, and yeah it's still going strong. It's got over 2k hours last I checked (probably closer to 2200-2500 hours now).

I also calibrated it and it's picture is looking great. It had been running a bit warm (was sitting at around 5500k with the stock Warm temperature).

I have a KDL-40EX400 and it has no audio thru hdmi. It has video but no audio. Any idea what might have been the problem?

It is a dish network 211 receiver. It works ok in other TV, the problem is with the Sony.

I own a 40ex400. I lovely set. Blacks are deep, virtually no input lag and and teeny bit of motion blur. You'd really have to stop and try an notice the motion blur. My only con is that the set doesn't support dts feedthrough from hdmi to optical out officially. It works perfectly but from time to time a warning sign saying invalid sign pops up. You get rid of it by switching inputs. Anywho down to business. I tweak and calibrate my set everyday. I swear its an ocd. All my settings are different depends on what I'm doing. Bare with me. These are my settings...
For ps3 with full rgb for playing games using custom setting
Backlight=max. Advanced settings
Contrast=86. Contrast enhanser=off
Brightness=58. Black corrector=off
Color=54. Gamma=0
Hue=0. Clear white=high
Color temp=warm1. Live color=off
Sharpness=2
All noise reduction is off
Cinemotion=off
Ambient sensor=on

Ps3 dvd settings using y pb/cb pr/cr instead of rgb @1080p on standard setting
Backlight=max. Advanced settings
Picture=88. Contrast enhancer=low

Oh good! glad to hear it. Mine has been rock solid since the stock board was replaced and I got it connected via the ups surge protection. I calibrated mine a while ago from a panasonic specific thread, since I don't have any hardware devices and did tweaks from that to my lighting and it looks great!

Thanks again for the sony settings for white balance you posted a while back. I tried those and the sony looks much more like the plasma now in terms of color accuracy.

P.S. My panny has turned a year old this past feb, and it will be 1 year from service this July.
The sony will also be a year in July, Keeping my fingers crossed that I will not be one of the ones where the panel dies after a year to 14 months of use. I've read numerous reviews about sony tvs of this happening this model and a couple other models too.

i have 1 more question i use standard and calibrate with avchd disc brightness 54 are good not lost details my question is on brightness on 54 look little washed how get blacks more black whit brightness at 54 .. gammma or black correction??

for a while I've been noticing something. It looks like vertical lines on the screen. I was thinking it could be pixelation but it's not just when I'm watching cable. When I use my ps3 to play a movie i get the same thing. Does anyone think they might know what i'm talking about? The It's a 40in in my bedroom. My room is small so i'm sitting pretty close to it. I was also thinking that maybe it's motion blur as i don't know exactly what that looks like. If the picture is still that you can't really notice it but once the camera moves you can tell. I also though that it was a stain from cleaning but i don't think it is anymore. I bought this windex electronics stuff that works pretty good.

macro shots from 40EX401

looks like its using a Samsung Panel? http://72.9.159.100/avs-vb/showpost....&postcount=793 reminiscent of the Samsung LN40B500 panel layout and some commented on that thread it wasn't proper 1080p because of the way the pixel formations were unequal in size

however text is clear and easily readable on 40EX401, black levels and motion is good

Left > Right > Muting > Center + > Muting > Menu

I did some searching and I think that the lines I'm seeing is vertical binding. I guess It's a defect so that sucks. They're barely visible but they're definitely there.

Thanks for the heads up. Personally I'm going to pass as the only change from the last update is:

Increases the maximum number of channel presets for some regional broadcasters.

And this doesn't affect me as I use a STB cable box.

I interpret the change to mean that it increased the number of Favorites slots. If so, how did they cram more slots onto the screen? Smaller font? The current list already occupies most of the vertical resolution.

Just bought this tv (actually thought I was getting a BX420) and love it.

I have TW cable and use the RF coax for channels. I receive 1-90 (analog 480i) along with a good bit of digital clearqam stations. Very happy.

I also own a Sony STR-DH700, and am wondering if the remote for the TV will control that A/V unit, or do I need to use a Universal remote? (I own an old Sony RM-VL600 Learning remote)

You can't, you have to change them on the source device (blu-ray player, receiver, video card, ps3/xbox, etc)
