Help me to understand something. Everywhere I have seen the Samsung starter kit (which comes with 2 pairs of glasses and the MvA 3D BD), it is going for $350 USD. I haven't seen anyone discounting it. The glasses, by themselves, retail for $150 USD for each pair.

So, are they claiming that the bundled MvA BD is worth $50 USD??? That's just nuts.

The stater kit DOES sell separatly but if you buy the 3D TV and the 3D BR player at the same time they will give you the stater kit for free.

The quote up above mentions nothing about needing to buy a 3d BR player too.

I thought another post had mentioned the 7000 series dont need to buy a 3d blue ray player with it, just the 8000.

A Best Buy Magnolia rep told me today that, within a few months, the vast majority of Magnolia HDTVs will be 3D. They handle Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and Mitsubishi, all of whom will have 3D displays. The other day, boxed 3D glasses were interfering with my Samsung 7000 demo. Imagine what a whole room full of 3D HDTVs will do to glasses trying to sync up to their emitters. I hope the manufacturers thought about that issue while designing these TVs.

Here is this weekends ad from Best Buy on the Samsung bundle:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/18/b...l-as-it-appea/

Buy the 3DTV and 3D BD player - get the starter kit for free. Same deal they started offerring last week.

The TV is worthless (as a 3DTV) without some 3D glasses. The XpanD X103 Universal IR 3D glasses aren't available yet and won't be for a few months (3 to 5)

Those are the battery operated glasses (in the kit) which are different than the rechargables they are using in the demos:

You can't buy Monsters vs. Aliens on 3D BD by itself.

If MSRP on new BD's are $39.95, what is so about a $10 preminum for a 3D BD?

How much do those $40 BDs sell for on Amazon?

If you assume that all the component is the KIt are discounted at lets say 5% which would seem resonable then the kit value of the glases is $285 and the Kit value of the movie is then $65. This would incate that the MSRP of the move alone might be almost $70.

IMO - they are selling the kit at MSRP

Hopefully you are correct, and if so it is only so they can prevent the disk from being available separtly at retail.

That's for the LED Samsung... and I don't need a 3d BD player since Sony is supposed to update the PS3...

I also thought I heard a pair of glasses will come with the samsungs, per I think it was a post with a video from CNN? (my memory sucks).

I'll just have to wait until the plasma is out and see.... I want the 58" ! Unless someone can GIVE me another $700 so I can get the 63"

See my post above.

In my OP, it says the 7000 PDP comes with a pair of glasses and MvA 3D BD but in my latest post about the 8000 - no glasses are included nor the 3D BD . . . puzzling

Technicolor said it doesn't cost any more to replicate a 3D BD than it does a normal BD. They do it on existing BD replication lines with no modifications. The additional cost is in the authoring - menus, subtitles, etc.

LOL - they are discounting the player at 10% but the starter kit is selling for MSRP.

I posted this question elsewhere but am wondering what happens when you purchase the two needed items from two different vendors? That is what I am doing due to a cost saving factor. Crutchfield and Amazon makes it seem like you have to purchase both items in one place. I will contact Samsung tomorrow about this.

Who is giving away the free starter kit? The vendor or Samsung? If Samsung is, then I suspect all you will have to do is send in copies of receipts and bar codes from the boxes. If the vendor - then you don't qualify for a free starter kit.

Nothing on Samsung's site (that I can see) says it contains a pair of glasses and the movie

I've posted the question there and will post when I get a response.

Maybe I missed this, but everyone is aware, aren't they, that Best Buy has the Samsung 3DTV on sale this week for $2,969. The player is $399 and the starter kit is free.

Appears that the OP announcement was wrong:

http://www.twice.com/article/449988-...sma_Prices.php

But it does say "Samsung is offerring" so that will help the person who bought the 3DTV from one vendor and the 3D BD player from another . . . maybe

The PDP's start shipping on April 2nd.

The 58" 7000 PDP is $2699 (see above link) so when bundled with the 3D BD player = $3098

Your deal is $3368. $270 more.

According to the Questions and Answers on Samsung's site, someone asked about the BD Player and free starter kit and the response was that the bundle offers were retail specific and they couldn't comment.

I don't need the BD player so I was hoping I didn't have to spend so much for glasses.

Then you can buy the starter kit for $350 and get Monsters vs. Aliens 3D BD.

The glasses cost $150 a pair. You won't get them any cheaper. Where are you going to get the M v A 3D BD? Not available for sale.

Or . . .

Buy the 3D BD player - get the kit for free ($50 more) and sell off the 3D BD player 2 weeks before the PS3 3D BD upgrade comes.
According to Samsung you have to purchase both the tv and the player from one vendor who is also responsible for giving you the starter kit. Actually I'm glad it's that way as you'd get your order quicker. Not that it matters cause the TV I want is not even out but it's also a simpler solution.

Dear Samsung Customer,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.

With reference to your e-mail, we understand that you would like to know whether you will get the 3D starter kit
if you purchase the 3D TV and the 3D Blu-Ray player in different shops.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

You need to purchase the 3D TV and the 3D Blu-Ray player in same stores in order for you to be applicable to
get the 3D starter kit for free. Additionally the store from where you would like to purchase these items must
have this offer as this is store dependent and Samsung is not giving an guarantee offer for the TV.

If you require any further information, feel free to contact us.

Thank you,
Samsung Online Support.

I guess some folks think MvA is worth even more than $50. I've seen multiple copies sold in the last couple of weeks on eBay, all for well over $100 USD!

Panasonic 3DTV owners no doubt, who have no use for the Samsung glasses in the $350 bundle? Still, you'd think these folks would just buy the bundle and then turn around sell the glasses on eBay!?!
Some Samsung buyers may have bought more then one bundle in order to have more then 2 pair of glases and therefore are selling the additional MvA BR disks they have.

That explains the sellers of these discs. I was questioning who the buyers might be.

As I said, probably Panasonic 3DTV owners, dying to have something to watch on their new sets. I'd probably do the same thing myself.

I actually "won" a MvA 3D Blu-ray disc in an EBay auction since I don't plan on purchasing a Samsung 3D TV and would have no need for the Samsung glasses. Yeah, I could have purchased the kit and sold the glasses but after EBay fees, shipping and time investment it wasn't worth it to me.
