CAT5 between tuner and amp?

New home construction. Tuner/theater in living room, amp/distribution in basement. Owner forgot to run speaker wire from LR to basement but there is a spare CAT5. Can a CAT5 carry line level signals between the tuner and the amp? Obviously it is very low power and the twisted pair should nicely reduce cross-talk.

Any technical reason this shouldn't work?

It should be ok but depends if it passes through next to power wires and other areas where you may collect some interference... i guess try it out... for voltage drop use a voltmeter to see whats up.
