Heres what a-e do:
a. reduces noise I believe
b. allows for control via serial ports (can do this over ethernet if the receiver has it like my 1007, very nice)
c. so you don't need to stick a blaster to the front of the unit, keeps it clean
d. allows you to turn on another device that allows 12v trigger, amps, motorized projector screens, etc
e. basically has macros and can learn commands from other ir remotes

Film Mode Video
Noise Reduction Off
Then use the VCR & Return OSD disable. On the unit itself, press VCR first, then Return (second after or so), you will see something that looks like:
Vprocessor: USE
While STILL holding VCR &return, use the D-pad to change to "Skip"
