I just got an email stating they are expecting the next batch any day now, probably within the next week.

Just did the live chat with another online retailer LOL (think alphabet) they told me they have about 120 pre-orders pending right now. I still placed an order and canceled my Amazon...
YESSSSS! Mine shipped! Cannot wait to finally have surround sound again!

just a heads up for those of us that ordered from ABT.
my sales rep just sent me an email:

Hello,

We had 121 preorders as of this morning. You are #62 on that list. The 20 units we got yesterday have already shipped out to folks who ordered before you did (yes, that means we had 141 preorders total!). We don't have an ETA on the next shipment from Onkyo, but you will get an email with tracking as soon as yours arrives and ships.

Thanks all about the internet radio.
I know Tuna and Amp both had addressed my questions regarding the ethernet port and internet radio and to hear from more, well, it eases my mind.

I guess it's like buying an amp that the volume goes to 10 and another amp whose volume goes to 11. 11 is one louder than 10

I called ABT and was told 4 of the first 20 came in tue. afternoon. I was second on the preorder (3/13/2010)They shipped the first 4 yesterday. I received an e-mail today with tracking number.Of course I live in Oklahoma City, hope to have it by next wednesday.....

By the way, The place everybody ordered from (think of the alphabet ) had told me when I ordered that they are THE largest Onkyo dealer. Due to this I bet they are getting them before other places such as Amazon and getting more as well.

They got 25... more rolling in next week. Since I posted the 'deal' and ordered in January I was on the list.

It is at my Condo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will post unboxing/hookup tonight!
HDMI-CEC/ATI cards .... the works.

Thanks for that update - I ordered about the same time you did.

I'm curious if anyone knows if the great price for it is gonna be there regular price all the time when calling or is it just a special for the time being for pre-ordering?

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing.

Not just a setup menu/gui over HDMI. Not the transparent overlaid GUI like the youtube video shows. An actual overlaid volume level display that pops up over HDMI 1080P anytime you adjust the volume level.

It is not a very common (cheap) feature.

Yes, that volume level display that pops up has been there as I said since 605.

Solely judging by the prices of Onkyo units last year, the cheap price will probably go away for a while and pop up from time to time over summer. Then during the Holiday season (Oct-Dec), there will probably be lots of sales for this price and a few for even better. And then it will get even cheaper again one last time before going out of stock as the 2011 units roll out.

As always though, pick up the phone and call places. ABT, 6thAve, J&R, maybe B&H, etc. etc. etc. depending on the supply will go lower than their advertised prices.

I've been wondering the same thing. An on screen volume display whenever you turn it up or down would be quite nice to have.

sjchmura, let us know about this.

edit: just saw zinigerziniger's post. I guess that answers that. this isn't a piece of information that is that easy to find...

I just ordered one from OneCall. Get 'em while they're hot!

I received my Onkyo from A**.com today from the PM deal.

I have uploaded some pictures of the unboxing. Full review to come

Currently WAF is 100%

Initial thoughts:

System: Mits 73" TV/ATI 5870 HTPC/PS3/XBOX360
7.1 surround
Dedicated room

HDMI-CEC enalbed.

Saw TV, simple hookup - no CEC issues so far.
Is VERY light compared to the my friends 807. However, unlike my old Onkyo 606 that has now blown up 2x this is VERY cool on top (think almost Denon or Yamaha) after being ON and playing music for 60 minutes.

I have not run any setups/2EQ etc.

ATI HDMI 7.1->Onkyo is perfect at 1080p

The "Cinema" chip can actually "process" the 1080p signal - kinda shocking
There is an OVERLAY for functions, music modes etc WHILE you have 1080p in - nice.

Sounds great with my Paradigm Moniotrs/sub

Over the weekend I will have a good review for everyone. Again, I am MOST concerned about 5.1->7.1 processing, HDMI-CEC (that it works), and that the thing does not get hot. Clearly this has enough power to shake the hell out of my metal/concrete 14x16 room I suggest the U2 song "Miracle Drug".

Btw, I LOVE that it will "sense" a 2.0 signal and you can choose to just have 2.1 out and NOT do the whole 7.1 scaling......

ConsUPDATED)

1 Horrific manual on the virtues of THX modes vs Dolby PLxII....1
2 The volume does not "glow" like 807. Volume knob feels "cheap" vs. 807

Update Blog:

1. Nice - like the 807 you can NAME the inputs. So HDMI1 is called 'Media CNTR", HDMI4 is "XBOX360". These names appear on the screen overlay with the HDMI-CEC function

2. I kept it on all night playing soft music (so I could sleep). I am SHOCKED how cool this is..... it is so light vs. 807 yet MUCH cooler. Litterally 90% of it is cold (room is cold since it is a dedicated XBOX/PC gaming/Movie room as you can see from the pics.). The FRONT RIGHT is the only place "warm" this AM.

3. After having been so annoyed after my 606 blew up 3 months ago with the HDMI defect common to all models (still trying to get fixed for my bedroom from Onkyo "service") I have owned and returned (yes I feel bad for A**.com but I keep all packaging and buy so much from them my conscience is clean):

1. Yamaha V665 (HDMI-CEC was only 90% working.... therefore WAF was 0%). YPAO did a bad job in my concrete room too. This is arguably COOLER than tht one
2. Onkyo 807: MUCH hotter vs. this one. Nicer overlay/GUI/Setup.

I do not really miss the 807 network pandora as I have my HTPC. Now if I could ONLY GET ATI to enable HDMI-CEC to "turn on the AMP" when I have Wake On Lan turn on the PC from sleep

This runs so cool I may just leave it on the whole time. It is NOT space heater. I do not understand - it is REALLY light - one hand and i can hold it easily. Worried me alot at first.

@ sjchmura
Looks sweet
Does this unit have the clicking relay sound when it changes sound modes, like when the tv commercial breaks makes it switch from 5.1 to 2ch and back to 5.1 with the programming. The 607 did that. Anyway I saw pic of the new Denon 1911, they removed so many inputs and outputs, they made it look cheap. The 608 will be the hottest AVR for 2010, for the money nothing will even come close. enjoy

Looks the same as the 1910 to me. A few less inputs. But most people are using HDMI anyway. The nice thing is they got rid of that crappy remote and it's single sided now. Hopefully they made things a little more intuitive to set up.

The setup is EXACTLY like the 807 or more expensive models (I know, I had one for about 1 week after my 606 nightmere). You just don't have the "network" option.

The setup is simple as hell. 3 positions for 2EQ.

More importantly the setup and OVERLAY works no matter WHAT signal you have going into it. Maybe this worked on the 607 but I found on the 606 this to be so buggy I was changing everything on the small screen.

Oh, you can NAME YOUR INPUTS too
As I use this today I will try and keep people updated. I will keep adding to my post above

Hey, Anyone know if "THX Dolby Cinema" is "better" than just PLxII Movie? I want to ensure my 5.1 stuff uses, subtly , my 7.1 rears.

Front HDMI saw my new Panasonic TS2 (underwater drop proof new camera - really cool for skiing/scub). 720p AVCHD looked great. I am trying to figure out if the 720p is being scaled in the unit or the TV.

I have never been a FAN of THX.

However it is a personal preference - TRY it and Select what you like.

I usually select the SAME Setting like PLxII - without the THX mode.

Neither mode is right or wrong.

It is like WINE - Drink and Listen to what YOU LIKE.
I've always thought that where THX came in handy was with Video anyways. I'd trust DTS & Dolby more for sound hands down. If I remember right when it was first introducted I think THX had 11 video requirements but only 3 audio reqs. Just my 2 cents.

I get mine monday.I'm already drooling..
Thanks sjchmura for the pics and info, can't wait to receive mine in a week or so.

While waiting for my unit, I am finishing running 12 gauge wire to a couple outdoor speakers that I plan to use with the Powered Zone 2 feature.

Will the spring clips accept 12 gauge wire no problem?

I also want to experiment with bi-amping my fronts in my 5.1 setup, so I would like to switch my wiring from that to Powered Zone 2 as easy as possible.

Any suggestions on using pin crimp type and banana plugs? I like to use monoprice, are the ones they carry good?

Can anyone answer if Harmony/Logitech already has the 608 listed as a selectable receiver? I've never had a device so close to its "street" date, and am curious how quickly they become selectable for setting up my remote.

sjchmura - If you happen to have some fullsize headphones can you report back the sound quality out of the headphone jack? Thx
