May i ask those knowledgeable folks here on the 608 the difference(s) between Audyssey 2EQ and MultEQ please?
1) is it true that 2EQ does the audio spectrum but NOT the bass? i was told repeatedly that this is true. that is, the equalization is done for the range ABOVE bass (however they define bass to be). even a subwoofer manufacturer specifically told me that.
2) if (1) above is true, then it would make sense that MultEQ does indeed "do" the entire frequency spectrum from bass up to, say, 20,000 Hz+. Then how would those who own units that offer 2EQ do the equalization for their bass? How does proper bass management work, either for movies, or even for just plain music?
I know the depth of the unit is stated in the manual and on spec sheets (nearing 13"), but it is quite less than most of the other receivers in this class. Can anyone when they receive this one measure from Front Vol Knob all the way to Binding Posts to confirm / real-world the depth of the unit? Looking for a very special cabinet application here.

Ordered mine today from one call. Shipped out today. Was that fast or what! Wasn't worried about the price, the company I work for gives me a gift for years of service which will pay for the whole thing.
man alive, I wish J&R would get these darn things shipped out already. Everyone such as Newegg.com, Tigerdirect, Amazon.com all has them in stock but for friggen J&R. I would cancel my order in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the awesome price I got. J&R / buyers need to get on the ball already... Sheessshh. No kidding, been 5weeks with no receiver. Starting to get really old.
I'm #26 (#46 overall) at ABT in the new batch that is supposed to come in on Monday. My salesman said they got 20 which shipped right away, and another 60 coming in on Monday. The anticipation is killing me, can you post some pics of the on screen GUI to help get me through it?

Thanks!
I talked to them an hour ago through their IM help line and she said they will be coming in by the end of the month. Thats all they told me. When did you order yours?
I am still amazed at how cool it is yet how LIGHT it is running 7.1......
One things "heavy" = Cool. Not in this case.
THe GUI is slic, HDMI-CEC just works. So far it is a no-brainer for the money. I need to do 2EQ later. Having too much fun in my few hours fre time playing Splinter Cell Conviction
Ordered mine from ABT today, was able to get the "special" price Will probably take a few weeks to get in, but that's not a huge deal for me. I was very tempted to order from some place that had it in stock today, but the cheapo in me won out. Looking forward to the early reviews This receiver replaces my Marantz SR780 that I bought in 1999...
In the meantime I am wondering if HDMI-CEC supports turning on devices when the receiver is turned on? (like if I turn the receiver on and switch to cable, does it turn on the TV and cable receiver?)
My big interest here is my HTPC, as it does IR for remote operations, but there is not support for turn-on via remote and am wondering if HDMI-CEC will effectively turn-on the PC when HTPC is selected via receiver?
I know ATi has touted HDMI-CEC as supported, but I have a nVidia ION LE chipset in my HTPC (using a Acer Aspire Revo, damn excellect solution I must say)... I am anxious to get the 608 in as my 73" Mitsubishi DLP (WD-73C9) has a problem with DTS sound via HDMI and it is a PITA to get it to sync properly. Once I have the 608 I will just route through the receiver instead of to the TV via HDMI and back out via coax digital to my current receiver.
I also am upgrading my SLS-Audio Q-Line Gold setup as part of the audio side upgrades to a full 7.2 setup. I picked up an additional SLS Q-Gold subwoofer and 2 more satellites for the rears. I am hoping the 608 doesn't have an issue with running 4-ohm speakers, as all the SLS-QG satellites are 4-ohm. I do know the 608 is spec'd at 6ohms.
Is it possible to disable the Faroudja 1080p processing? Would this reduce power consumption at all? All my sources are 1080p (except Sky HD which is 1080i, but that can be handled by the TV)
What are the differences between the SR608 and the HT-RC260? I noticed this model on the onkyo web page and used the compare option but the only difference I saw was the thx certification on the SR608. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm going to be upgrading from an old denon 1804. Thanks.
