so with my 608.. i need ps3 to output audio to zone 1 and 2. i m sure its asked lot of times and i have searched too .. but no conclusive results..

what i know:
onkyo will accept audio from analog inputs only

what i dont know and what to know..
how can i send audio simultaneously to zone 1 n 2 from ps3.zone 1 is hooked to hdmi.. zone 2 not yet hooked.. i have optical cable i m guessing its not gonna work. even if i use analog cable .. will it out simultaneously to both/

Hopefully somebody can help me with this.

I have my DirecTV HD DVR connected directly to my 608 via HDMI in the Cab/Sat port. When we turn the tv and receiver on, it passes the video fine, but for some reason it changes the source to TV and the audio cuts off. So I have to go in and change the source back to Cab/Sat.

Is there anyway to fix this??

Hi hardrock_121, Zone 2 only output analog connection. PS3 can output multi sound by setting "Multi Audio Out" to On. I know it can output both digital (HDMI and Opitcal) but unsure if it would output digital and analog (HDMI and RCA red & white).

Hi Jorge18, go into your Tv menu and turn Off HDMI-CEC feature.

Some trade names are: Samsung is AnyNet+, Panasonic is Veria Link, Sony is Bravia Sync, Pioneer is Kuro Link, etc....

No, I have my Samsung TV set to input HDMI2, and it receives whatever signal the Onkyo sends. The AUX setting on the Onkyo is selected. The Canon G10 is connected from the camera composite video port to the AUX composite video port on the Onkyo (front lower right hand corner -- not the AUX HDMI input on the lower left hand corner).

With the setup there is no video signal seen from the camera on the Samsung TV. When AUX is seledted on the Onkyo, I see AUX in the lower right hand corner of the Samsung TV. Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Larry

You can confirm by connecting your HDMI to HDMI-1 (whatever) and connect RCA analog to one of the input like VCR/DVR and assign HDMI Input under VCR/DVR from "HDMI-2" to "-----". Then go into PS3 and set Multi Audio Out to On. Then switch input HDMI-1 and VCR/DVR to see if you can hear sound.

The reason I ask is because HDMI video will have priority over Composite connection if two source are playing at the same time.

Have you try changing resolution settings?

Does the G10 play fine with direct connect to Tv?

How do you change video resolution for composite video sent from AUX on the Onkyo to Samsung TV via HDMI?

Larry

Basically it changes the resolution for HDMI Out and Component Out.

Find it under Input/Output Assign > Monitor Out, default is "Through".

You can also try turning off video conversion before changing resolution to see if that helps first.

Hi guys,

Just got my 608 today. At the moment I have no external speakers so I'm outputting to the speakers on my Panasonic TC-P50G25. I do however have a BIC America F-12 subwoofer, which I've connected to the LFE out. However, I don't seem to be getting any output from it. Is it not possible to output to the TV speakers via HDMI as well as the subwoofer through LFE or does outputting via HDMI disable any other output?

So now that the NFL season has started - what audio mode do you think works best for 7.1 for sports?

I continue to have problems trying to view my Canon G10 photos on my TR-SX 608 and TR-SX 705. I plug the composite video cable from the Canon to the AUX video input on the lower front right hand corner of the either Onkyo. Video is output to my Samsung HD LCD/LED TV via HDMI. I can see all other video that is output from the either Onkyo. The video setting within the Onkyo menu/setup is set to through.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Larry

Sorry to trouble you all. Solved the problem, was using a defective camera VGA composite video cable. New cable resolved the issue.

Jchin,

thanks for answering Jorge18's question. funny I was just about to post the same question in that my unit was essentially switching on its own to tv/cd even when I would hit the cbl/sat input button.

I followed your advice and disables my CEC (anynet+). I noticed that the sound has actually changed as a result, would that be because I had sound coming from my main speakers as well as tv speakers previously?

no big deal just wondering

Hi Larry, sometimes we failed to check the basic setup first as the problem, connection & cable . Glad you got it figured out and that nothing is wrong with the receiver.

CEC can do some weird things so can't be for sure of it. But glad my post was able to help with your issue.

Getting very close to buying one of these. Love my Panny SA-BX500, but I need a better auto-set program, since my room is pretty problematic due to layout & the Panny's simpler auto-setup doesn't get it good enough.

Also many thanks to Jchin for being here with your help & infos!

If your source disc is Master Audio, etc, encoded for 7.1 .. then certainly yes... there are not a huge number of these out there ..

Hi Daveyd, this is my understanding as I'm not running 7.1 but others can verify and correct me if I am wrong.

If the BD player is playing a 5.1 TrueHD/DTSHD-MA and performing the decoding (LPCM) the receiver can matrix to 7.1 using DSP listening modes (Dolby EX, Dolby PLIIx, etc...). But if the receiver is doing the decoding (which BD player is sending Bitstream) then there is no option to matrix 5.1 TrueHD/DTSHD-MA to 7.1.

As mgkdragn mention there're not many 7.1 TrueHD and DTS-MA soundtracks out there, vast majority are 5.1.

This being your original post .. any 7.1 AVR will "matrix" sound into 7 speakers .. matrix is commonly used to describe a simulated surround .. only true 7.1 encoded audio will actually provide real surround as intended by the mix .. that's why I asked that you define what context you are using matrix to describe ..

Is the 608 a worthwhile upgrade ..?? Most that post here own one, so they thought it was .. you have to decide that for yourself ..

Ummm when playing a BD movie with Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master HD 5.1 through my 605, which is a 7.1 AVR, I only get sound from 5 of my speakers.

Of course when playing a BD movie with 7.1, the 605 plays sounds through all 7 speakers...but that wasnt my original question

My last post had a cut and paste of your original question .. I don't think we're playing off the same songbook here .. the only time you'll get a TRUE 7.1 mix is when you use a TRUE 7.1 source disk .. again, the term "matrix" is commonly used to describe simulated surround thru various DSP modes ..

I'm having some issues here...I bought my 608 from BB about 3 week ago and everything was fine since today. None of my HDMI ports are working. I have a PS3 and a cable box connected to it. I tried to disable the video processor, reset the unit, and nothing... Both sources work fine connected directly to the TV (52" Sony XBR9).
I'm missing something?

Hi dudarj, is the issue no video or no audio or no both?

Are you able to get a menu screen?

If you already try unplugging power from the wall outlet and resetting the unit back to factory default and still a no go, return it and get an exchange from BB.
