what i dont know and what to know..
how can i send audio simultaneously to zone 1 n 2 from ps3.zone 1 is hooked to hdmi.. zone 2 not yet hooked.. i have optical cable i m guessing its not gonna work. even if i use analog cable .. will it out simultaneously to both/

Something I realized I can do to solve this. HDMI is sending sound to your TV, along with the video. So just have your TV do RCA audio out back to your reciever, then set zone 2 to TV. So then, Zone 1 is HDMI audio, zone 2 is analog TV audio, and they both play at the same time.

I haven't actually done this, was going to do it Friday to see if it works, but it should. I am doing this so that I can use my HTPC for inside and outside at the same time, and I also have HTPC set to be able to use analog if I want seperate sources for inside and outside.

OK.....can the 608 produce sounds (by whatever means necessary) to all 7 speakers from a TRUEHD/DTS MASTER 5.1 Blu Ray disc? Obviously my 605 cannot.

No, it would need to be a 7.1 encoded disk .. any 5.1 disk will only do surround into 5.1 .. it's not a limitation of the AVR, it's the disk itself ..

Although you can attempt to SIMULATE 7.1 ..

You can achieve 7.1 simulated with the THX settings. You get sound to all seven speakers.

as I said .. simulated ..

I've tried to search but it's kinda hard with 100 pages. Anyway;

I'm currently trying to hook my dreamcast up with a VGA box I got for it back in the day. Video plays fine, the question I had was for the audio. The box only has a 3.5mm jack for the audio out, I can't see a way to make the front audio jack be the audio signal for the PC input. There any way to do that, or in general to switch around audio and video signals? Thanks.

Hi dukefett, you can use a 3.5mm to RCA (red & white) cable.

Thank you. Simulated, but sound nonetheless

I'm still trying to figure out a way to play an ipod through the aux port, while playing an xbox through hdmi. Is it possible?

Hi jclifford90, are you using a dock or just straight cable from ipod headphone jack?
Just a 3.5mm headphone jack. I dont mind using 3.5mm to rca adapters if needed. I'm just looking for a means to play the ipod during gaming

Ok, get a 3.5mm to RCA cable and connect it to either TV/CD post (at back) or AUX L-Audio-R (at front). Then turn up your ipod volume to max.

Select your xbox 360 input to play the game and while this is on then press TV/CD input or AUX.

Note: if you using TV/CD post, assign "Digital Audio Input" under TV/CD from OPT-2 to "-----" .

Hope this helps, if not I may have another setup.

The easiest way would be to run your iPod USB cable to the XBOX itself. The XBOX can play your iPod music while playing a game.
Can't you set Zone 2 to be AUX, then just hook up some speakers to that. You will then get both Xbox sound and iPod sound at the same time, and even different volume levels.

I have had the SR608 for a few weeks now and, I was wondering if it was possible to use the HDMI imputs from my PS3 and XBOX360, and CableTV into the receiver .... but output it to my TV thru component. My TV does "not" have HDMI , only 1 set of Component IN.

Thanks

Hi Raz0rSharp, sorry but it will not down convert HDMI to Component.

Does your tv set have DVI input? If so you can get a HDMI to DVI cable.

I got this receiver and also the Onkyo SKS-HT870 I was wondering what frequencies I should set up in speaker setup. The manual is not very clear and I am very new. I tried to post the URL here, but apparently I am not allowed. if you go to onkyousa.com and add /model.cfm?m=SKS-HT870&class=Speaker&p=s to it, that's the right speakers.

Hi freezerburn, run Audyssey setup and see what the receiver set them to.

For the past two months I have been watching DirecTV programming via HDMI directly into my Samsung PN63C8000, while my Onkyo 608 was in for repairs (circuit board). So far I can't get a picture that even comes close to what I was watching whether on "through" or "1080p" all via HDMI. The 608 definitely degrades the picture. I dould swear it was better than this before.

Is my best option to run the picture via HDMI to the Samsung and run the audio via optical to the Onkyo? The Samsung speakers weren't bad but no where near as full as my 5.1 setup.

My signal coming out of DirecTV is 1080i, but everytime I enter the setup menu on the 608 it keeps telling me something like 720x1068. Everything is hooked up via HDMI and set to HDMI. Any thoughts?

Hi VPD, have you try turning Off video processing? If not turn it Off and if that helps, see post #3021 or page 21 in OM.

I ran the Audyssey when I first got it, but it gave me very strange values for every speaker. That's actually the reason I came on here to ask. It sounded pretty good before I touched the audyssey setup, now it seems like it's sending things incorrectly.

Set all speakers to small, raise any speaker crossovers thats below 80 to 80Hz (fronts you can try 60Hz or 80Hz) and leave any speakers thats above 80 as is. Set LPF to LFE to 120Hz and Double Bass to Off.

What did receiver set the Sub level to?

Hello all, I just got my HT-RC260 set up, and I have a couple of questions. I've read this thread from when winston first discovered the issue, but I don't fully understand the 24-bit to 30-bit conversion.

First I can't figure out if everyone has this issue, and some people just don't get the image quality hit, or if some receivers don't do the conversion (I understand that it appears to depend on the display). I do get all 720p and 1080i 24-bit sources converted to 30-bit sources, but unfortunately I won't be able to have a Blu-ray player or any other 1080p/24 fps source hooked up before my return period expires so I have no way to test for stuttering or the effect on image quality of 1080p sources. Should I return my unit with some hope of getting one that doesn't do the color depth conversion (if it correlates with the image quality hit), or do they all do it?

Also, has anyone else been able to fix the issue by hooking up to various displays as TopGunn describes on page 88? I have a Samsung LN46A650 for what it's worth. Thanks so much for your help!

So now that the NFL season has started - what audio mode do you think works best for 7.1 for sports?
Hello. I have my Wii connected through component cable. Then made the settings on the receiver to HDMI. I thought the ht-r680 upscales to 1080p, but TV shows 480p. Is there settings on the receiver?

TV is showing correct settings for Blu-ray 1080p.

- go into Input/Output Assign menu
- assign HDMI Input under GAME from "HDMI-4" to "-----"
- assign Component Video Input under GAME from "-----" to "IN-1"
- on the Xbox 360 A/V Component cable switch over to HDTV (HD) from Tv (SD)
- go into xbox 360 audio menu set it to DD 5.1 surround sound

Unfortunately after trying this and talking to an Onkyo rep it appeared my unit was defective. It could not pass Component (in) to HDMI (out). Everything else worked just fine, including component (in) to component (out). I had been watching movies for a couple of weeks, but only just got around to hooking up my xbox 360. I was very sad to find a fault with the unit, but best I found out early rather than 6 months down the line. The Onkyo rep was very helpful and we tried out various methods, most of which I had already tried after studying the user manual. Alas the final verdict was that my unit was defective. I was given the option of returning it to where I bought it from or taking it to a service center. I RMA'd it to the company I bought it from and my money refunded as the company was now out of stock. I guess the 608 is popular at the moment! I ordered from another company and my new one arrives tomorrow, so I will be sure to test all the connections to make sure everything is working the way it should. Thank you for the advice!
To anyone buying one, it is an awesome piece of technology, a big upgrade from my old HTIB, but if you buy one, just make sure that EVERYTHING works early on in your ownership

I remember seeing post http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=3021 about how to turn off the video processing etc, but I was wondering why I would set film mode to video for say my blu ray player? Does it have something to do with 3:2 pull down? What is the benefit of changing to this?

Edit: I now remember that 3:2 pull down is for smoothing out film based material (movies), but I imagine you would set it to video only for sources like a Cabletv box or Dish, right?

After months of absence from this terrific forum I wonder what was the final conclusion (if any) about the flickering 608 "problem", its ability to pass through HDMI video signals unmolested, even in "Through" modes, mostly related to a Direct TV box, etc. Any firmware available from Onkyo? i have it still in a box, because my speakers have not been purchased..(perhaps Jamo speakers).
The last time I have read that disabling the OSD improve the video quality...passing the video signal without upconversion, etc. was the way to go.

Any news related to this subject?

BTW I have a Cisco Scientific Atlanta box...is any issue related with that boz?

Thanks a lot

Had a question. I connected my samsung 1590 to my onkyo, to my vizio vx37l tv. The set is a 720p set. I have the onkyo set to "auto". When I output a 1080p signal, all was good. When i changed the player to 1080i or 720p, i would see this strange artifacting- green hues all over the screen. When I connected the player directly to the tv, there wasn't an issue with the artifacts. I am giving this player to a relative who has a 508 and was worried this might be a problem on her set, which may not be so forgiving about 1080p vs 1080i signals. (her set is a 1080i tv not p, as is mine).

My cisco scientific atlanta box LOVES doing HDCP handshakes. Seems to perform one every time resolution changes, causing a delay when changing channels if I pass the video through my ht-rc260.
