Thanks, I saw it and understand everything in red......just not too sure about the last part

setup -> 1. Source Setup -> Picture Adjust

Game Mode Off
Wide Mode Auto
Picture Mode Custom
Film Mode Video
Noise Reduction Off

Then use the VCR & Return OSD disable. On the unit itself, press VCR first, then Return (second after or so), you will see something that looks like:
Vprocessor: USE

While STILL holding VCR &return, use the D-pad to change to "Skip"

not sure what to do for that part ^^^^^^

No doubt you helped me out, but I was still getting a long black screen going from 1080i to 720, so I only have the 1080i selected now and I have no black screen video drop outs like I used to. Goes right to the channel with video and stays there.

Not sure how that will affect my channels that are 720 and 480 though????

This may help you understand it better, read page 21 in OM.

One thing I don't like about that, is not being able to see the volume control on the screen when I have that set to skip. It's nice to be able to see what number your on.

I have my receiver in another room so I can't see the front of it.

Also each channel has it's own power amplifying circuitry so using more channels shouldn't reduce power to other channels, only increase total system power draw.

Oh and my setup is:
Onkyo 608
Polk M70 (fronts)
Polk CS2 (center)
Polk M50 (surrounds)

Anyone else that can chime in here, before I pick up some more speaker wire to try bi-amping.

Are most using dynamic volume on low/light.

@Mario66
The 608 has 7 identical 100W amplifier channels. If you are only using 5 channels (L/R Front, Center, L/R Rear) then 2 amplifier channels are available for other use. If your speakers have bi-amp ability then you will get better performance that way. I personally use the extra channels for zone 2 speakers on my patio.

There are 9 sets of speaker terminals so I think you could hook up 9 speakers and then have different settings that determine which 7 speakers would be driven at any time. Not sure on this as it's not clear in the OM and I have only tried 7 speakers.

What listening mode should this be set to when playing games that support dolby digital/pro logic/or neither?

I have 5.1 speaker setup. Right now input says HDMI 4, PCM mutli 5.1 while playing Demon soul's which supports dolby digital.

I have the new slim ps3.

Yes but I am confused, The power for every channel in an AVR comes from a common power block. The Onkyo 608's maximum rated power is 100wpc with 2 channels driven, It is not 100 watts per channel when all are driven. The more channels you drive the less each speaker gets. I doubt it will "double" the power per speaker? This seems more like a passive bi-amp.

Any experts here on this

Seems gains would be minimal at most. Hmmmmm

Also wouldn't the 608 be sending the same signal to the same speaker still, then it would run into the speakers passive crossover.

hi folks,

I seem to be incurring some of the same problems suddenly as others where I have the odd "stutter" in video I've only noticed it so far with my Directv HD DVR but have not watched any blue ray recently.

Before I turn off the video processing which seems to have worked for most here, I had one question...
If i do the reset on the front panel as the first post suggests will that turn off processing for all sources? I have an xbox 360 via hdmi which I'm not worried about but I also have a Wii which is into the 608 via normal cables and I like that it seems to have better picture quality going from the AVR to the TV via HDMI. Will I lose this benefit? and if so can I just turn off the processing for the Directv and no longer have stutter?

Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but I've gone through 67 pages of this thread and I'm tired!

Hi robbyville, video processing is globle but does not affect analog to HDMI upconversion.
excellent thanks, so as I understand it:

I can still keep one cable (HDMI) going from the AVR to the TV, but the appearance of the picture when playing Wii will be similar to what it was before I owned the Onkyo slightly more grainy... correct?

Experts please advise. I had the A/V receiver carry out the Audyssey 2EQ Room Correction and Speaker Setup Calibration. I have the following set up:

Onkyo 608
Polk M 60 (fronts)
Polk CS 10 (center)
Polk M 30 (surrounds)
Polk PSW 505 (subwoofer / connected via Line In)

My questions to ensure optimum sound quality are:

1. Is there a need to override the auto calibration with regard to Hz settings on the speakers? If yes what should the settings be and on which speakers?

2. What Low Pass setting (Hz) should the subwoofer be on?

3. What Phase setting (0 or 180) should the subwoofer be on?

Thanks to all in advance.

1. I cross over all speakers at thx recommended 80hz

2. I turn my subwoofer to the max crossover setting.

agreed. Esp. on the last 2 answers. I have spent sooo much time researching this and it seems to sound the best now with these settings. Still playing with the crossover setting though.

OK - I know as much about asking a question on this forum as I do about the 608, so I may be in the wrong place entirely. Nonetheless, I hope I can get an answer to this problem.

I've had the 608 about 6 weeks, and have been watching cable and Bluray via composite inputs and outputs.

I finally got HDMI set up (both in and out) and am running to a Panasonic Viera Plasma 1080p TV. Problem is, both Cable and Bluray run fine (video and audio) for a few minutes, then the video cuts off (audio still going).

Can someone tell me what might be going on? Both the Cable Box and Bluray player work fine with their HDMI outputs hooked directly to the TV.

Thanks, and if I'm in the wrong place, can someone send me to the proper place with this question.

Does anyone know if the 608 is able to mix HDMI video with a separate HDMI audio input? The reason I ask is because I currently have a HTPC with a DVI -> HDMI connection to my 508 receiver for the video. The motherboard has a HDMI audio out, but I can't seem to mix it with the HDMI video input. My only options are the COAX/OPT. Is this also true for the 608?

I tried that setup but I am still getting audio delay. I remember reading way back 50 pages or so about a better way for the receiver to do a pure pass through. I just want the receiver to play the audio from the hdmi input and not touch the video at all!

Also to other polk audio users here, my speakers have two red and two black inputs per speaker but I am not sure why? Does it matter that I only connected one black and one red set per speaker?

Hi oni222, it allow you to Bi-amping the Front Speakers (see page 15 in OM).

No, you cannot mix two different HDMI input together.

Thanks. Would setting the crossover on all speakers to 80 Hz undo the Audyssey Calibration?

Hi Bill, this is possible a HDCP (handshake) issue. If your tv HDMI-CEC feature is turned On, try turning this to Off.

Some HDMI-CEC trade names are: Samsung - AnyNet+, Panasonic - Viera link, Pioneer - Kuro Link, Sony - Bravia Sync, etc....

Does the audio delay happens with all source or one particular source?

Have you try adjusting A/V Sync?

Hey guys,
havent really had time to look around for the solution, so here I post. Recently because of renos, i had to close down my ht room temporarily :'(. So I've moved my ht-rc260 and a couple of my bookshelf speakers to an older tv thats component only. Its great, the only thing is I can't figure out how to view a composite (R/W/Y) source when hooking up the receiver to a tv via component out. Anybody know how to do this?
Thanks

Hi pane_singh, sorry but composite can only output to composite or HDMI and NOT component (see page 21 in OM).

I had a feeling that was the case, I was just hoping that there was some kind of work-around. Oh well, thanks anyways
