Hi Don, turn HDMI Control and Audio Tv Out to "ON".

Component cables are correctly connected to green, blue, and red.

For audio i am using red & white which is currently connected to TV/CD audio input. I'm not sure if that is correct either I've been more focused on getting a picture.

Thanks for your reply.

Go into Xbox 360 video menu and try a lower resolution setting.

Greetings,

I've had Custom Names set up for each input for a while. Suddenly the reciever has reverted to showing the default input, and the listening mode that I am set to, so instead of Roku, I get CBL T--D.

When I go into the menu, the custom name still shows. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks for any help!

David

Ok...we got video and sound now...BUT video is coming through the TV speakers, the external audio speaker is muted.
Is there any way that we can get the external speakers sound sounding with the Onkyo off?
Why we can get the video thru the HDMI but not the sound? Aren't both signal come together thru the HDMI?

Thanks again!

So After getting my 608, new energy speakers, polk sub and sammy tv all hooked up for less than a week, my PS3 Fat dies. red blinking light. lovely.

So yesterday I picked up a PS3 Slim, and changed the appropriate settings to get bitstream working. I'm not sure what equivalent listening mode to set it on now though. I'll try to explain..

When my PS3 Fat was doing the decoding and sending via pcm, I believe the onkyo was set to MultiChannel as the listening mode, which sounded great. I experimented with the different THX and other listening modes but liked the straigh multichannel mode with no other enhancements.

Now that the PS3 Slim is bitstreaming (and its definitely working, got the whole DTS-HS lights and all), I'm not sure what the equivalent non-processed mode should be. It seems there is no "regular" mode, and that I have to pick one of the enhanced modes. The only one that seems like it would make sense is "direct", but that mode sounds terrible and is extremely quiet, nothing like the PS3 Fat doing the decoding and sending PCM to the MultiChannel setting. The most similar setting from a sound quality and volume perspective is All Channel Stereo, but isn't that negating the surround mix to begin with?

Anyone else bitstreaming to the 608 with PS3 Slim? What listening modes do you like for action movies and bluray concerts?

Also somewhat unrelated, but when using netflix on the PS3, how is bitstreaming working for that, and what listening modes are you using for that?

From what I can see you just need to press the Display button on the remote until it says Roku and then the volume, is that what you want?

Does anyone know if Onkyo will or can do anything about the Video processing on the 608, with regards to the stutter and the fact that you have to turn off the OSD.

Is it safe to assume these bugs are here to stay and just needed to be accepted?

Hello everyone,
I was playing around with the RIHD connectivity on the SR608. Can someone educate me on how RIHD works between SR608 and PS3? I toggled between settings, and I only managed to turn on the "thru" setting for PS3.

1. Are there any other benefits (apart from "thru" mode when receiver is off) of the RIHD?

2. When I have the "thru" mode on, my SR608 never goes into standby (the red light). It's always on "thru mode" (yellow light). Is this normal? I thought the yellow light only comes on when your input source is activated, but the receiver is on standby, thus activating "thru mode".

Thanks!

If I wanted to send 720p @ 120Hz from my HTPC to my projector, would I have to disable video processing? Right now when I set it to 120Hz on the HTPC I get tons of artifacts. I haven't ruled out the nvidia chipset either, to be honest, especially being in a non-native resolution.

The vast majority of users experience no issues what so ever .. I have had mine since the week it came out, I use the OSD, my video is brilliant, my audio is brilliant .. as we've mentioned on the thread many times, no AVR will play nice with each and every component that's available .. in this case, it's a matter of proper set up more than anything else ..

The problem for me is that having the video processor on causes ghosting on my Sky TV unless I turn it down to game mode, the manual says that game mode will degrade the picture quality so I don't like the sound of that.

Also there is the 24p stutter bug, i'm not currently but soon will be using my boxee box at 24p once a bug has been sorted. Are you saying that the 24P bug doesn't happen for everyone?

It seems a shame that it still applies processing when set to through mode

In order to have an OSD, any AVR must do some degree of minor processing .. it's the nature of the beast ..

I agree it has to mess with the signal to make the OSD, i'm fine with that but when set to through, I don't want it to process the video other than making the OSD. I also don't want stutter in my 24p content which is 99% of my content.

Do you play 24p content?

I am VERY pleased with Onkyo repair service. No hassles, sent mine to Pinnacle Solutions Services in Haverhill MA & it comes back fantastic.

I got my receiver today. I have a 5.1 setup with my rear speakers behind our couch against the wall about 6ft directly behind us. I hooked the rears to the surround back ports but only one speaker is detected during setup. Should I be connecting them to the surround ports and not the surround back ports?

Hi Stryker412, yes for 5.1 setup connect the two to Surround not Surround Back.

I finished setting up the speakers but am not getting any video. I have 4 HDMI devices and the monitor out going to my TV. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Anyone figure out how to kill the relay clicking?
I know it's searching for signal. But wtf?!?

Actually I got it

What's the best 5.1 surround option for 2.1 channel? or for default 5.1 channel for that matter.

I am pretty sure you can't, that's why people turned the OSD off.
You can only get one or the other

Are you getting a setup menu? If not make sure the correct HDMI input is selected on the tv (got to ask just to make sure ).

The PORT Labeled MONITOR OUT is the WRONG port.

You need to be using HDMI OUT next to HDMI IN #1

Look at Diagram on Page 17 of the Manual

I am using that port. Like I said I get the setup menu but then it just goes to a blue screen once I leave the menu.

Your previous posting said MONITOR OUT

I believe if you just walk though Page 38 & 39 of the manual
you should get Video out to the HDMI Port, as long as you
are seeing the 608 setup menu on your Display Device.

Make sure you have your inputs assigned correctly.

Setup:
1. Input/Output Assign > 2. HDMI Input;
