Is there a way to get this receiver to accept HDMI input while having it output to the TV over component? I couldn't get this to work in a way that would give me both picture and video. I am happy to do video over HDMI with audio over component if that is doable. My main drawback is that I can't do HDMI out. Any help would be appreciated.

FYI - no AVR will do that it is a Violation of the HDMI protocol.

Time to BUY a new display

Actually it is a wiring issue. The TV is a year old Samsung LCD. Didn't run HDMI from this location to the homerun closet when the house was built. I have tried wireless HDMI but they weren't powerful enough as of this past winter. Trying to avoid the several hundred $$ it would cost to punch holes in the wall to run the cable then repair the holes and paint. The WAF on that plan is zero.

Too bad you are not local - I could do it for you.

You will have to bite the bullet and do it.

Wireless is not a good solution.

So only Component cables (green,blue,red/white,red) are run through the walls?

I guess you can give HDFury2 a try.

Thanks JChin, Already tried cable swapping. But didnt try swapping ports so I did that, no change. That drove me to go one step further and plug bluray right into tv.
Ran the setup and found out the only way i could get the bluray to show video when going thru onkyo is to set it for 480p.
Which totally baffled me. So after seeing how the video looked by playing a dvd I decided to give it one more try and see if it would connect at higher resoulution and all of a sudden it would connect all the way to 1080i ( which is my sony xbrs top res) So I have no clue why it just started working but I did turn both of them of then on and it still works, go figure.

hi, im not sure what to search for with this issue so sorry if its been answered before, currently my 608 doesnt seem to want to output audio to the front left and right speakers, now ive tried swapping other speakers into the locations and i get the same thing, also tried several different length/guages of speaker wire and still all i can get is garbled stuff out of the tweeter, the center channel and the rears seem to work fine even with the front speakers hooked up to their locations... any ideas? ive also tried doing a factory reset

Hi iamcheese, I got to ask but you are connecting it to "Front Speakers" terminals (which is next to "Center Speaker" terminal) and not "Bi-Amp for Front Speakers" or "Front High/Front Wide/Zone 2" terminals, right?

Oh, appears it has an internal problem then. Try removing power cord from wall outlet for a few and then reset the receiver microprocessor.

Hmm, you try earlier and it didn't work . Does the "Front Spearkers" terminals feel loose to you?

Or maybe the receiver got scared and started to work because its going in for surgery (repair) .

they feel tight to me, between switching them out this time i didnt touch the connections on the receiver and its kinda weird its both speakers that were on the front... maybe the polk tl1s cant handle the 608 lol...

hey i was wondering if anyone knows how to get the reciever to use the PLIIx sound field as opposed to the PLIIz when playing PS3 games. I am not sure if this was covered already but any help with this is GREATLY appreciated. This has been driving me crazy. The only sound fields i can use right now when playing PS# games in the THX mode are either PLIIz or just THX. i want my two rear surround speakers but everything i have tried won't work. What am i missing here? PS3 is connected with HDMI.

So i just got this receiver and a 55" LG lw5600 a couple days ago.

I have a ps3, xbox 360, and wii hooked up to a Onkyo tx-sr608 receiver which in turn is hooked up to the TV with a single HDMI cable. I have no cable hooked up to the TV, its just a gaming and movie tv for now.

I have two questions that hopefully one of you experts can help me with. Im not very good when it comes to setting electronics up.

1) How do I get sound to my receiver when playing the LG TV apps like Netflix? Do I need to hook up the TV to the receiver via the optical output?

2) When playing movies on the PS3, the sound is off. It's very noticeable. The sound happens before the action. I'd say maybe 1/4 of a sec off. Really weird to say the least. I've messed around with some of the options, but I havent tried too many things. (scared to screw it up worse lol) If I delay the speakers via the receiver options, it would affect more than just movie playback correct? Playing netflix thru my ps3 works fine, no delay whatsoever.
Do you think it's something wrong with the PS3, TV, or receiver? Or did I just miss a setting somewhere?

I just purchased the receiver and tv. Havent had the receiver hooked up to any other tv's.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ragingmc,

If your lg tv has ARC, you should be able to change the settings so it will output the sound into the receiver. Look for CEC or something like that in your menu.

Everyone else, I'm having a curious issue: I started playing portal 2 today, and it, all of a sudden, started doing a relay click (as if I was changing the signal into the receiver) and ended up trying to keep showing the signal but couldn't. It's done this one time before, but that was about a month ago. I'm using my ps3 right now to watch some video and it's working fine. I can't figure out why - last time I was able to get the problem to stop by cycling power to all systems, and changing some settings on the receiver (game mode off) and this time I changed it from upscaling everything to 1080p to doing a straight passthrough. I'll check it again later tonight, but does anyone have any experience with this sort of issue and a fix? Also, does anyone know how to make it so the receiver will pass audio in addition to video in passthrough mode? P

My tv does have ARC and i just enabled it. I cannot find CEC anywhere though. No results yet, but im sure its because i havent enabled CEC.

Hi aguptaweb, turn on "HDMI Control" and "Audio Tv Out" found under Hardware Setup menu.

Hi racingmc123, LG HDMI-CEC trade name is "SimpLink".

Look under tv main menu for "SimpLink" or sometimes the remote will have a quick select buttom for it. Enable Tv SimpLink and ARC (which should be found under tv audio/sound menu) and enable Receiver HDMI Control and ARC (found under Hardware Setup).

yay for another question... any idea why the unit would cause some resistors to go poof... ie get really hot and melt the stuffing stuff inside of the speaker? the speakers are recommended at 10-100watts so i dont think i over loaded them?
