I have my Onkyo TX-SR608 playing out to my Optima HD66 projector. This works great for watching any and everything I have hooked up to it. Mac Mini, ATT Uverse, WD Live, Wii game system. BUT if I want to listen to itunes from the Mac mini or stream Pandora from the WD Live TV +, I have to power up the projector.

Rather than powering up the projector and killing bulb life, I would like to hook up a basic 7 monitor to view the video out put and play itunes or anything that does not need to be projected onto the 45"x85" screen.

I tried using the Monitor Out RCA jack with two different 7 LCD color monitors but no signal is ever picked up.

Is Monitor out not be available when HDMI is primary connection?

Is it a resolution issue?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

this would make Home Theater life and wife very happy

Adam

oops, ok now, any ideas? thanks

Hi, new member here. I read this entire thread when I was shopping for a receiver and ended up purchasing a 608.

I just picked up an Acer H5360 DLP projector and for some reason it is not playing nicely when I'm using my PC as an input to the Onkyo. All the video is detected and configured correctly but I am never able to get sound from the Onkyo to my surround system when the PC is the input and projector the output. Note that with my TV as the output I have no problems (using surround speakers as well, TV out off on the AVR in both cases).

I believe it is some sort of HDMI handshaking issue, since as soon as my projector is off the audio will again come through the surround system via the Onkyo.

The audio is being output from my PC video card HDMI in 7.1 PCM format.

Thanks for any suggestions.

As I have just bought 608 a month ago as my first receiver, I can't answer your technical question, but here is what I do: I use an HDMI splitter to connect my projector and LCD monitor to the 608. The image gets displayed on both devices simultaneously - and if the projector is off, only on the LCD.

how do i check that>>???

I've done a cursory search and not been able to find this exact answer.

With the 608, is it possible to run video from my PC via an HDMI input, while simultaneously running the sound from my Squeezebox (connected via RCA to the CBL/SAT input on back). I'd like to listen to music while watching some baseball or a race. Running the sound through Zone 2 is not an option. I currently use Zone 2 for outdoor/2nd and 3rd room audio.

Also, and this is more of a Squeezebox question, if I connect the SB via a digital input, does this make my dilemma easier? Can I run both an analog and digital signal from the SB simultaneously?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unfortunately yes.

I saw this comment a thread about TR5008 & TR3008 where someone complained about clicking:

"That "relay clicking" results from missing sound mode default settings in the setup menu by the user, as has been stated countlessy in several threads already. It happens only, if the hand shake algorithm has to search every time, because of intermittent mode triggers without a given default setting for every input and state. If it knows, where to go to, it doesn't have to search everay time that happens.
If done right, rarely a relay click will be heard. Mine clicks only when turned on."

Maybe this works for TR608 too?...

Anyway I have a problem with my TR608 and fat PS3 playing "StarTrek -The motion picture" Bluray which has a 7.1 track. The problem is the audio is coming out as 5.1 instead (according to onscreen menu).

I have set the PS3 to PCM instead of bitstream so the PS3 does the decoding and sends multichannel audio to the TR-608. (fat PS3 can't bitstream 7.1 modes)

The problem is when I look at the onscreen audio menu it is saying input:7.1 but output 5.1?!??!

Why would it only output 5.1 out of amp when the input is 7.1?
Also I can't select any of the 5.1->7.1 THX modes because the input is already 7.1! I can only cycle between THX cinema, THX game, THX music on remote.

Any ideas?

p.s. I have 7.2 speakers set up.

Run the EQ program, plug in the mic included and follow the instructions. It should set up the proper crossover for your speakers.

To eliminate the simple case, do you know for sure the Onkyo has detected and is using your last two speakers or is it possible it is still only seeing the 5.1?

You should be able to set the output to "direct" and the receiver will not change anything. If you can, see if that will output 7.1

I went into the speaker setup and noticed that the two surround back speakers were not showing in diagram, and also Audysey DSX was greyed out in one of the setup options. I couldn't figure out what caused this to happen. I checked back and wiring was fine. Searched everywhere for something that might have disabled them but nothing found. Then I noticed a little light on front of amp. I took a closer look and it was Zone 2 light on (which i don't have connected to anything). I read manual and found cause - when Zone 2 is on all Front wide, high, and back channels are disabled. I never turned that on myself - I think a certain baby who plays on a mat in front of amp every day may have pressed the Zone 2 ON button (i never noticed it myself). Manual also said it uses more power in standby with it on - it could have been on for weeks - i seem to remember light on when i turned off amp power every night but took no notice of it!...

You need to run the Audyssey EQ setup with the microphone. It will detect and enable your other two speakers. That's why you aren't seeing 7.1

Hi guys,

I picked up a the Onkyo TX-SR608 last week and hooked it up to the PS3, I didn't really do any calibration or settings change and just out of the box it was working quite nicely with both games and blu-rays. Last night I had some issues with the playing of Underworld blu-ray, the video was lagging behind the audio and it was bad enough to be unwatchable. I searched around the net and found that the video processor in the 608 could be the cause of the problem and did the trick of turning off the video processing by holding down vcr and pressing return. This seem to have taken care of the problem but as expected I do not have OSD now.

Also, that was the only blu-ray (out of 5 tested) that had this lip-sync issue.

Can someone please explain what exactly is the video processing in the 608 supposed to do? I mean, are there going to be certain cases when turning it ON may provide better output on the screen (perhaps while playing on wii?)

Thanks.

I have NO CLUE. I own (3) PS3s for Blu-Ray playback and have
never ever seen any audio delays with three different AVRs and
one of them is a 608.

hai guys, i have set up 608 with my projector via hdmi. 3 I/Ps goes into the Onkyo and 1 HDMI goes to the projector. When ever i change the I/P in Onkyo (say from PC to my Tuner or my WD media player), there is a delay in changing the screen between the I/P's. There is flickering for 5,10 seconds and then the i/p changes on the projector. Is it normal? Its annoying sometimes when i constantly want to watch simultaneous stuff. Please advice.

I did a bunch of internet searching and everything i saw was at least 3 months old... Does the TX-SR608 work with Directv 3d yet?

Works for me. Never had an issue with direct 3D
post #4821 of 5217
how long have you had it? lot of stuff i read from 6 - 8 months ago indicated tons of issues with the handshake between directv boxes and the 608. as recently as 3 months ago, lots of reports on an issue displaying 720p 3d content from directv.
Ive been using it for about 5 months for 3d. Never an issue with direct 3D. The only issue ive had with 3D was i had to disable the OSD when i was using the PS3 to get Resident Evil to display properly in 3D.
would this include ESPN 3D (when there is actually a program on it)?
I watched college football, basketball and golf in 3d but to be honest i dont remember if they were on the actual ESPN 3D channel or on channel 103. It is displayed in 720p 3D.
I'm wondering if you go one with new firmware. I believe you - ive just seen hundreds of posts claiming differently - but again - those are a bit older. Directv or Onkyo could have done something in between now and then that i am just not seeing posts about.
I know my Onkyo doesnt have the newest firmware but I do keep my direct tv receiver updated with the newest.
you know... since i am in the market for one... i think i might just go denon and avoid the hassle altogether. i was only trying to stick with onkyo because i have onkyo speakers, but that doesn't really matter, speakers will work with anything.

wow, that makes it even more wierd. I hope it is just one of the uncommon cases that happened with one particular blu-ray.

There must be some combination of things that make it happen.
It has never happened with me and most of the people. As you
found there is a work around - but you should NOT NEED IT.

What is it supposed to do .. ?? You're kidding, right .. ?? That's a book within itself .. I have 2 PS3's and have never had any issue with lip sync and the 608 ..
