Newegg has the release date for this receiver as 5/14/2010 but I thought that was going to be shipped in April!! Looks like 5 more weeks of wait?

When I finally receive my 608, I will at least be doubling my pleasure and doubling my fun, going from a 304 to a 608 I think it is safe to say that we all can't wait for the 608!

i believe there are 3 net gains with the use of 1.4:

1. 3D capability
2. audio return
3. on screen display (on top of what you are viewing)

If I have a 2009 display (ex samsung PN58B560), even after having a satisfactory "1.4" cable, can we take advantage of #2/#3 above?

I just got off with Onkyo. They didnt really help at all. He said he doesn't have an exact date of release. He said it should be end of April or beginning of May. Why cant they post a expected release date. That ercks me.

This receiver is going to awesome... worth the wait for the 1.4a

I just wired my house Cat 6 & used the PS3 to stream all content from my computer using the PS3 Media Server... Itunes right into the 7.1 system... AWESOME!

Check it out the FREE PS3 Media Server to save some bucks buying the Onkyo Ipod dock...

Hells yes & its awesome... Itunes library or just music folders in your computer too. Videos are streaming well

Its like having a musical picture frame... a really loud picture frame once the Onkyo 608 comes in!

Or is it just another media streaming application like Twonky etc.

You can choose to show your itunes library complete with playlists... you may be able to have your Ipod connected to your computer & have those playlists handy too (I have to confirm this though & I'll get back)

I'm definitely not buying an ipod dock... I got all my wires from Monoprice SO cheap & got a 32mm to dual RCA cord for the ipod... (Under a buck!)

i'm leaning towards the pioneer 1020 because of the ethernet port for internet radio.

the 608 seems like a pretty good receiver but not ethernet port.

should i go with the 608, is there a work around to listen to internet radio?
i'll have my ps3 and dish receiver hooked to the receiver.

I haven't personally hooked up internet radio through the PS3 but it is a menu option...

UPDATE: Check this link... again I haven't done it but others have

When you have a PS3 you don't need to pay for extra internet widgets to your TV& receiver... I was browsing the net on my PS3 today... I'm sure you could do it that way as well.

In the long run the 1.4a ethernet pass through will be awesome to hook up the PS4 & a internet ready TV too... The receiver itself doesn't need ethernet... its nice to have for updates.
I think the Pioneer 1020 & the Onkyo 608 are win win situations... get whatever one is on sale... I got my Onkyo 608 for $100 less than the Pioneer, if it was the other way around I'd go with Pioneer.

I am waiting for the 607's to be reduced more. From the past, you will see Crutchfield lower these ~40% when the new models are in their possession.

In my opinion, and if you are not upgrading to 3D, buy this piece to hold you over until the 3D is more available and the bugs are worked out.

Bottomline: Whatever manufacturer you choose for your new piece, their will be signifcant reductions in price on the older models.

That is usually how I prefer to shop. Typically manufactures just take last year's model, add one little feature and slap a new slogan, model number, and price on it.

Keep in mind though that Onkyo really beefed up the 608 compared to the 607. The 608 is getting way more than a new marketing slogan (Now in 3D!!). So the strategy of "just buy last year's model and get more bang for your buck" doesn't really apply. The 608 is a ton of bang for your buck with all the stuff they added to it.
