Wow! My review of Samsung 3D set up.

So here is my review of the Samsung set up at Best Buy in Union City, Ca. Playing Monster vs Aliens. First there were 2 glasses tethered via a securing cable and a USB cable to charge the glasses. when I put on the glasses they were comfortable and could easily be worn for 2+ hours without a problem. When I looked at the Samsung without the glasses you notice what looks like a blurred image just like at the 3D theater BUT when you put the glasses on the image was awsome and had a real 3D pop. I saw Alice in Wonderland this past week at IMAX and noticed when I had the glasses on I could see ghosting (possible due to out of focus or eye strain or unknow reasons) but at best buy with less than optimal setting I saw no ghosting and what I felt was a superior image than at my local theater. Sure it wasn't as big but better 3D yes. I also did not see and flickering. Blacks were ok at usual LCD levels and who knows what the settings were at. When I covered the little sensor on the glasses the glasses became brighter and out of sync but almost instantly synced up once I removed my finger from the sensor. I am sold just want it cheaper then consider me in.

Sounds very good, I plan to visit BB, in the next day or two to see for myself, hope I feel the same as you do.

I stopped by Frys tonight to pick up an HDMI cable and got a look probably the same 3D Samsung, unless the size was different. This was either 55" first guess or 51". Before he brought the glasses over, and looking at the usual offset blur on the screen with an animated feature on, it looked like you would expect and was mentioned above. I was totally not expecting to be wowed when he brought the glasses, also having seen one at Best Buy last weekend running a boring talking show in the synthesized 3D mode. Not great on that show and "cut out" effect. Underwhelming and that seemed useless. But again not anything to look at really. Maybe a better program would be different.

But when I put the glasses on and from about 8 feet back, holy crap it looked really good. The very first few seconds it was all about depth back into the display, much like Avatar. But then things started coming out in front of the screen as well. They looked some of them as far out almost as I was. I really did not expect it to be that impressive. The CGI was great as well, adding to the effect.

I cannot wait as 18 months ago I bought the 61" LED DLP Samsung which will do legacy 3D at I guess 50% roughly of the full HD spec. But just having the considerably bigger screen and thin clean bezel around it, it's all image and has a very nice picture, such that after spending time outside in my theater with an RS25 and 8.5' wide Hi Power, I can watch the Sammy and not want to throw stones at it at all. If it can hit even 50-60% of that same impact, in a dark room at the right distance.....I can't wait now. Will need the 3D firmware update in my PS3 when they do that and the Mitsubishi converter whenever it comes out.

But hell yeah!! I liked it a LOT. Very surprised.

Btw ghosting in 3D theater is 'normal' because the side projectors HAVE to be adjusted. Off course, cinema operator mostly don't give a crap about it. We got a new 3D theater here and for the first month it was perfect, 0 ghosting, then it's started and it get's worst each month.. LOL!

Only IMAX (both IMAX 15/70 and Digital IMAX) use 2 projectors for 3D. All the other 3D processes like RealD and Dolby 3D use a single projector.

Ghosting, also called; "crosstalk" between the two images (L & R) can be caused by a number of reasons:

So I was at the mall with my family and went I to Sears and they had the Samsung 3D set up playing Monsters vs Aliens but something was different... Without the glasses the image was not blurry so I asked the sales rep to put it in 3D. She pushed a button on the tv's remote labeled 3D, a menu popped up asking if I wanted to view 3D and she selected yes. Before putting on the glasses I noticed it was not nearly as blurry without the glasses as it was at best buy. I put the glasses on and the 3D was not anywhere near as impressing as it was a best buy yesterday and I did notice flickeringvwhen I looked at other hdtvs in the showroom.
My guess is that at best buy yesterday I was seeing the real deal the way it was suppossed to be presented but at Sears I was seeing a 2D movie preenation coverted to 3D similar as sd up converted to hd ( ok but not the real thing). My guess is that Sears did not have the br player or tv set up properly.

I saw the 55" LED backlit Samsung with 3D.

The color and contrast are really good with the shutter glasses. The main problem is that the 3D effect feels more like i'm seeing multiple 2D planes than "depth". Like I'm seeing depth, but what I do see looks flat... hard to explain. I only saw Monsters v Aliens so it's possible that it could have just been that movie.

I watched one at Best Buy today, again it was Monsters and Aliens. I have to say it was very impressive. A much better picture with much a more solid 3D effect than you get at the cinema with those crappy polarized glasses.

Lots of depth, and the characters in the foreground seemed to come right out of the screen, very cool.

Two foibles; I did notice a little ghosting on some of the characters in some shots, and the format really shows up the fact that the movie is only running at 24fps, as you could see the motion steps in fast moving characters.

The movie was presented in cinemascope aspect ratio, which on a 55 inch screen from normal viewing distance did seem cramped vertically for 3D. I think a 17:9 presentation as Cameron will do on BluRay for Avatar would give a much improved 3D effect.

Overall it was very impressive, my wife had to drag me away. I cannot wait to see what the Panasonic Plasma will look like.

My only problem...my Pioneer Kuro Elite monitor and JVC HD750 projector are both less than a year old, it will be a while before I can bring myself to upgrade.

That's odd that MvA looked that way. Normally the "cardboard cutout" look is due to the real-time 2D-to-3D conversions.

It looked flat to me also, I think it's the movie. I want to try a scene like in the beginning of Christmas Carol 3D where it felt like it was snowing in the theater.
