Sony HT-CT150 and CT350

Thread Starter
They were just announced in Japan a few days ago.

http://www.sonyinsider.com/2010/03/1...eater-systems/

The article states they should be coming to the US in the summer/fall. The CT150 looks like a slight upgrade from the CT100. The CT350 seems to be comparable to the now discontinued CT500 though. Hopefully they can get the quality control issues worked out this time that plagued the CT500. I really like the updated look of the subwoofer/receiver box.

I'll have to keep an eye on the ct350. Hopefully we get a street date on these as well as price soon. If not I may end up getting the S400.

Soundbars seriously need their own sub-forum here........
Well, I hope these actually make it up to Canada this time...
CT500 (for better or worse) never did...
Is there a reason I should get this over the ct500 if I am not planning on purchasing a 3D tv any time soon (maybe never)?

Mainly for me is the fact that the CT500 has been discontinued by Sony, though you can still get the remaining units from some online retailers and Sony themselves for now. Personally I hate purchasing a product knowing it has already been discontinued...especially since it came out less than a year ago and some notable quality issues.

The HT-CT350 and HT-CT150 just announced in the US:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/22/s...ars-5-1-sound/

Quote from the press release:

The HT-CT350 40-inch sound bar system is available this May for about $400. The HT-CT150 32-inch sound bar system, also available this May, retails for about $300.

The support pages are up now:

HT-CT150:

HT-CT350:

The user manual for the HT-CT150 is posted, but there isn't one for the HT-CT350 yet.

It seems the ct150 and the ct350 use the same sub size. I was disappointed to see its only a 5-1/8 in driver. I dont understand why Sony cant squeeze a 6.5 in driver like the new Vizio and Pioneer soundbars have. Last years ct100 had a 6.5in driver it doesn't make sense why they decided to go smaller.

What I would really like is for a 3.1 soundbar with minimum 3in speakers in the bar, 8in woofer, some hdmi connections while supporting dts MA all for $500 and under.

Does anyone know if the new models offer video upscaling for SD inputs? My Panasonic plasma has pretty lousy SD upscaling (especially on the HDMI input) and terrible built in speakers, so it would be nice to cure both these problems in one hit.

My questions is why did sony stop making the CT-500. I love mine and think it is much better then my old CT-100 (don't get me wrong the CT-100 is still a good system).

Hopefully the CT150 and CT350 will be improvments over the CT100 and 500, and those were both great soundbars.

MODS,, could you please move this thread to the Soundbar forum.

Ugh, there's no component inputs for the HT-CT350? I was looking to replace my Definitive Technology setup with a soundbar (wife approval factor) but the HT-CT500 is now discontinued and the HT-CT350 lacks components, blah!

Now the question is, will Sony release an HT-CT550?

Nothing as of yet says Sony will make a ct550. What is the device that needs component input?

The Wii. Maybe it's Sony's way of getting people to buy PS3s
