Look at the output format settings on the cable box. Are you sure it isn't set to "auto" rather than 720P only?
Leave the cable box turned on.
Maybe someone else will have better suggestions. At the moment I can't think of anything else to try. frown.gif

Thanks for the info. I'll try swapping cables and double checking the box settings. Let me present this alternative set up:

-Cable box to TV via HDMI
-Cable box optical out to CT150

Would this connection still allow or 5.1 audio to the CT150? I suppose one drawback would be losing the Viera link and dealing with more remotes...

I'll be fiddling with the set up tonight. We'll see what works. I've also seem to have read mixed messages regarding getting 5.1 audio output from the ST50, from external devices. Possible topic for another thread but I'll give that a try as well.

You can also try connecting the cable box to different ports on the CT150.

Yes, you could connect the box via HDMI to TV plus optical directly to the CT150. You'll get 5.1 that way. Probably would need to change settings on the box to tell it to output audio via optical. You should still be able to use all the Viera Link functions as long as you keep an HDMI connection between TV and CT150.

Buried somewhere in your TV manual it probably tells you that 5.1 audio is only output from the TV's internal tuner. I have an ST30 and it does say that (in very fine print smile.gif).

I took delivery of the HT-CT150 about two weeks ago but because of a shoulder injury was unable to do the hookup until yesterday when my son came to help me. It is a very tight space that the sub woofer had to fit into so I definitely needed his help. Meanwhile I spent a lot of time reading through the online manual. I have to confess that it took a while for me to get my head around the fact that I would not be using the TV's input selector to choose among the cable feed ( Comcast), the PS3 and the Toshiba HD-A30. Once comfortable with that, it was simple to do the hookups yesterday. The unit came from Amazon for $183.

My initial reaction is that this is a substantial improvement in the sound quality over the built-in speakers of my five-year-old Sharp Aquos 42-inch TV. I have yet to fiddle much with the sound levels but instead wanted to spend time with the factory setup. The sound is much richer. I don't think there's a better word or it. I did watch a couple premium cable movies and couldn't believe how much sound quality I had missed. I did get one complaint from my wife that the bass reverb through the house was a bit distressing. I'll try adjusting that. Also my dog seemed to notice the change and kept looking around the room as though he was trying to figure out who the new intruder was.

Only one minor complaint: I wish I could read the panel display settings on the TV screen. I find I have to be very close to the unit to make any adjustments. I did set the Audio sync to "on" in order the fix a minor sound/picture sync problem. I'll never have space for a full home theater setup so this will have to be my version.

I ordered the 150 from amazon yesterday and have the following components:

Samsung UN55D7000
PS3
XBOX360
Comcast Cable box (newer model)

I plan on hooking all 3 components up to the soundbar, then hooking the sound bar up to an ARC-compatible HDMI input on my TV.

I read earlier in the thread that you can not utilize picture settings if you hook everything up this way. I believe what was meant by this was that the individual settings on each of the TV inputs would not be used since everything is being fed into 1 HDMI input.

I will still be able to use any custom picture settings that I have programmed into my TV, correct? I will just have to switch through them on the TV after I select a component via the soundbar?

My only other conern is audio sync issues--but I will have to wait and see once I get everything hooked up.

Thanks for any help.

Right

Whatever settings you have for the input being used to connect the soundbar will be exactly the same as you have them now.

Hello everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. Just had a question regarding the HT-CT150.

I'm trying to get the best possible sound from this soundbar so I was curious exactly what I should have the settings at.

I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360 both hooked up to the soundbar using HDMI.

My question is: what audio settings should I have enabled on the PS3 and what audio setting should I select for the Xbox 360?

Do I want to enable 5.1 or Digital Stereo?

If you need more information as to what all the audio options are for both systems please let me know, thanks a bunch!

I just bought a CT150 since it was on sale. I realized that I only had one HDMI cable so I need to order some. My question is do I also need other cables? My setup will be my TV, Playstation 3, and the CT150. I don't believe my TV supports ARC. So will two HDMI cables be enough?
Yup, two will do. One to connect PS3 to subwoofer and the other going from woofer to TV.

I have a question. I have a cable box and PS3 and LG PA70G projector. Would Cable box and PS3--->HT-Ct150----> LG PA70G work? I would connect everything via HDMI. Thus getting sound to the HT-CT-150 and it sending the video to the projector

Can't think of a reason why it wouldn't. If the cable box and PS3 work when connected directly to the projector, connecting through the soundbar shouldn't change anything.

Yes. That's how I have mine setup currently with LG 47lm7600. Does the PA70G support ARC over any of it's HDMI ports? If not, then you need to run some other audio connection from the TV to the HT-CT150 for any sound that is sourced by or runs thru the TV (i.e. over air antenna, internet/pc, other periferrals connected to TV).
thanks for the advice. I think that since it's a projector there is no audio output and I would want the ht-ct150 to process the sound and bypass the video to the projector.

In the least, I'm pretty sure that your projector has HDMI and a headphone jack.

So I am picking up a HT-150 tomorrow. This ACR thing has me confused. Since my TV doesnt have an ACR HDMI does that mean I have to use the optical cable from cable box to soundbar for sound? Any help would be appreciated

If you connect your source device(s) directly to the soundbar, you just connect an HDMI cable from the soundbar to your TV for video. Unless you need to send audio OUT from your TV, you don't need an optical connect (or ARC if you had it).

You are wonderful!!! Thank you so much. THIS WORKS!!! All my remotes can go in the drawer now and I only have to use my u-verse remote. This little soundbar works just fine, just hated using the remote and the u-verse remote and no other instructions worked, especially coming from ATT.

So I try messing around with the CT150 and the settings/manual is really confusing. What should I do If I really really clear dialogue and less explosions? Just crank the center all the way up? Also, when I press display it only shows 2.0 sounds. How do I get it to 3.1?

Is this what I need if I want to increase the IR range? http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011009&p_id=8060&seq=1&format=4#feedback

Where do I plug it into?

I purchased the HT-CT150 from Bestbuy yesterday. It was open box and the CSR gave me a different Sony remote. The one I got is RM-ADP053. He said that it should work. I tried several times but the unit does not recognize the remote mad.gif . I checked the batteries and they are working fine. Do I need to pair this remote with the soundbar unit even though its a Sony AV remote? Thanks in advance.

I believe that remote is for their BD home theater systems and is intended to be programmed to control a Sony TV. As I'm sure you're aware, the correct remote for the soundbar is the RM-AAU072. I would suggest that you ask the store manager to either provide one of those from stock, or reduce the price you paid further. You should be able to purchase a remote from Sony or one of the replacement remote vendors online.

Thanks. I will try this weekend.

Hi guys,

Could use some help on this one. I got the CT150 about a month ago, and really only trying to setup the hdmi video pass through for the first time.

I've connected my PS3's HDMI out to the CT150's BD HDMI in. Then I've connected the CT150's HDMI out to my Panasonic's HDMI in #1. However, I get no video at all when I switch to HDMI 1 on my TV. I thought this should be pretty straightforward? Am I missing a setting somewhere or is my CT150 broken?

Thanks!
You get audio but no video? Have you tried connecting the PS3 directly into the HDMI 1 port? Try troubleshooting the port and the individual HDMI cables by bypassing the sound bar. Make sure that you test both cables.

Great forum that feels as much like therapy as it does good AV advice. So I cruised through most the posts on here and I think I have a handle on what is going on but I want to verfiy with this esteemed group.

I just got my CT150 yesterday and set it up last night. Have it mostly working, but there are a couple of quirks that could be a result of me thinking I am smarter than I am or just how things are.

Here is how I have things connected:

BluRay - HDMI to soundbar, BD port
TV (Samsung LN32D550) - HDMI 1 (non ARC) to soundbar TV Output port, digitial optical cable between the two
I have coax cable going straight into the TV for cable TV, no box or dvr.

Issues:

TV remote will not power on sound bar when TV is turned on. TV remote will power down the sound bar though.
Doesn't seem like the pass-through feature works. If the soundbar is off, the internal speakers stay off unless I manually change the TV sound setting back to internal speakers.
If TV is on first and then soundbar is turned on Anynet will allow for volume control using the TV remote but the displayed volume has that discrepancy others reported.
If TV and sound bar are turned on at the same time and I try to use the TV remote for volume control I get a mesage saying Not Available.

From what I am reading I will always need the Sony remote to either turn the thing on or change volume if I change my connection configuration.
If I want a one remote operation it is the Harmony or buy a like brand TV or sound bar.

Additionally it would appear from the posts that the handshake between Samsung and the Sony sound bar can be dicey so the pass through is probably something I will have to live with too. Do I have that right?

That's because Samsung TVs do not support the "auto-on" feature, just "auto-off".

Does the TV have a setting to allow internal speakers to be "on" even though you specify "external" speakers? When I used a CT350, pass-through worked. The soundbar would mute the TV speakers when on, and un-mute when turned off. That was using a Panasonic TV so the Sammy may not have the same settings.

Thanks for the confirmation Possumgirl.

No other settings on the Sammy TV. I can either choose "TV Speakers" or "External" under my sound settings menu. It would be very cool to have it do as you describe where it switches it depending on how you want to listen. The Mrs would like that.

All I can figure with that volume thing is that the Anynet synchronization that goes on come from the Sammy TV so it has to be fully up before the soundbar comes up or they haven't had a chance to recognize each other. Who knows though.

Well it is helpful to know I have done everything I can to mitigate the wonkiness of the operation. Now I have to decide if it is worth another $50 for a universal remote or continue to do the two remote shuffle. From what I have been reading getting a Samsung sound bar might not solve these issues, sounds like that deal is pretty squirrelly too.

Once you experience the sheer joy of a Logitech Harmony remote, you will never look back!

The second joy comes from putting all the other remotes into a drawer and leaving them there... smile.gif

Use the original remote to program the commands you are having problems with into the Harmony. It is very simple and works every time; go to CUSTOMIZE BUTTONS, and select LEARN COMMANDS.

I currently have a Vizio VSB200 I'm contemplating replacing with a HT-CT150, but I have a couple of questions. My TV is a LG 47LV5500 with ARC on HDMI1.

I would probably hook up my HTPC, 360, and DTV receiver to the CT150 HDMI connections. However, I also would have another Xbox and a Wii, and probably a Wii U in the future hooked up to the TV HDMI inputs, rather than the CT150. Would I still need to run a optical connection from the TV to the soundbar to get sound from the components hooked directly up to the TV? Or would ARC take care of the machines hooked up to the TV directly, and I wouldn't need to run any additional cable between soundbar and TV other than one HDMI connection? Thanks.
