need help w/basic basement ht layout

Newbie here - first post. I'm in the middle of finishing the basement, and I'm looking for some advice for laying out basic home theater. I don't have a lot of space to work with, but on the flip side I'm not looking to do anything overly elaborate either. Just want to mount a flatscreen and wire up a 5.1 surround system. Due to the space limitations I'm looking to use in-wall speakers.

The walls are still open at this point, and I've run/pulled, rerun, pulled, drilled holes, and scratched my head for the last week and I'm now at the point of totally over analyzing it. I have two major considerations. The first is that the wife isn't sure how she wants to lay the room out, so I have to build it for two main layouts - facing the 11' wall, and facing either the 12.5' wall, or the shorter 8' wall. Due to the layout of the basement, I'm pretty much stuck with using this space. The ceiling is still open at this point, if that matters.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Well it's totally personal preference. I think I would put it the TV on the 8' wall and use the empty area underneath the stairs for the A/V closet. Might save some money on cables using the shorter runs.

The other consideration is do you want people to see the TV and speakers on the wall as they enter the room coming down the stairs or do YOU want to see the them as they enter the room from the seating on the 12.5 wall?

Since the distance from seating to the TV is about the same, that wouldn't factor into the equation for me personally.

I'm now leaning the same way. The thing that gets me at this point is that the wife was pretty insistent on having the ability to change the room around, so I've already run a bunch of cable and at this point I'm not sure it's worth pulling it again. I've also spent money on some fancy 7.1 wall plates that I don't really need anymore. Live and learn I guess.

493' of CL2 16 ga. speaker wire later, and I have wire run to approximately all of the red circle locations for potential spots for speakers. There are two runs of wire to each spot that run to two potential locations of the equipment rack (shown in blue). Also ran about 500' of cat5e, as well as a number of runs of RG6.

I should have the bases covered, now time to figure out where/how I want to add mood lighting.
