To clarify my question:
I'm using the JVC RS20 in a "zooming" set up, using 4 way masking. It's working wonderfully well. Re-sizing the image and zooming takes seconds.
What is very helpful is that when I press the "Zoom" and "Shift" function on the RS20 it throws up a nice clear pattern on the screen, outlining various ARs (16:9, 1:85:1 I think, 2:35:1 and 4:3). That pattern makes it super easy to re-size the image even without a movie playing.
So, when it comes to upgrading my projector in the future, I'm wondering about other projectors: is it typical for a projector (especially around this price point) to have such a lens pattern feature with the ARs depicted? I might be bummed a bit if my next projector doesn't have this.
It wouldn't be a deal breaker; I could always use the actual movie image to fit, but I do like the option of the lens pattern.
Thanks

I always refocus after doing anything with the zoom. While the difference isn't drastic, I still find a subtle shift. What PJ are you thinking of upgrading to? Moving away from JVC in general?
