windows usb keyboard and mouse

I am about to buy a mac mini to place in my newly constructed home which is almost finally finished.

I plan to primarily use rowmote to control the mac mini. Can I use a usb mouse and usb keyboard from my old dell for the inital setup and install of rowmote?

Or do I need to drop $100+ on new mac keyboard and mouse. All I currently have is a macbook pro.

Yes, your old Dell KB and mouse will work just fine for the initial setup, so do not worry. Also, go into System Preferences, allow the mini to share, so then you can screen share in from the MBP anytime you need to take more direct control of things.
