The software doesn't allow input setup for DVD devices (and I'm not sure the method Oppo uses for quasi-discreet input selection could be accommodated anyway because of the 2-second delay required), BUT...

You can add the necessary input commands (with the required delay) to to your activity startup command strings on the Custom Actions screen.

From the Oppo 103/105 IR code spreadsheet:

So... in the Custom Actions setup screen for a particular activity, you would add an "INPUT" command, then a 2-second delay, then the number required for the desired input.

If you wanted to normalize the unit back to standard Blu-ray at the end of the activity, you can similarly add add an "INPUT" command, then a 2-second delay, then the number "1" to the Activity "stop list".

BTW, if you haven't already discovered the Custom Action screen, it can be found at Activities>Settings>Review Settings>Yes, but add more control... after a few Save/Next clicks you end up at Custom Actions.

Thanks jcalabria, I suspected the 'customs action' setup area was where I could do something but it's not very intuitive. I'll give it a try...

I just bought a harmony 600 for my parents and I can't get the input functions to work properly. Here are the components the remote will be operating:

Dish Network receiver DISH-322, this device seems to be working fine.

LG 55LV4400 TV, input function does not work. I've tried Method 1 set to Input. It seemed to have no function at all. I tried Method 2 and set the input functions for each button to the corresponding input function for each button. (Even though there is no individual input button on the remote for each input, after I installed the device into the Logitech software, it populated a separate input function for each input. These functions are all inoperable. They didn't do anything when I assigned them to the remote and tried to use them. On Method 3 I tried a couple of different setups. I tried setting input as the Input Button, and the directional arrows to select the correct input. This method caused the input menu to appear, but it didn't move. I also tried setting input as the Input Button and set Input again to cycle through the menu. Again, the menu appeared, but no movement again. I couldn't think of a reason to try Method 4.

LG BH9220BW, input function does not work. Again, I tried using the preset input settings that didn't have any effect. I was able to set the home button since it is actually a button on the remote. This was fine for watching content from the DVD player, but I was not able to change back to watching Dish Network because I could not find any setting that would change the input away from the Home setting. Just like the TV, I tried every Input setting I could think of using Method 1 through 3. Nothing worked.

I read LG has numerous issues working with the Logitech remotes...after I started troubleshooting this issue. I read that LG SIMPLINK may interfere with settings for the Harmony remotes, but I could not find a way to disable it. Other models apparently have a spot in the Options menu to turn it off, but neither of these LG devices have a way to turn it off that I could find.

The factory remotes functions work fine and the input button on the factory remotes and the harmony remote works when I push the physical button, but it does not work when operating as a part of an activity. Thank you for your help.

Hello jcalabria, unfortunately when I go into the custom actions setup screen I only get dropdown options for

1. 'send this infrared command' (for input), and
2. 'send this this infrared delay (2 seconds)

but no third dropdown to select a desired input

I guess that's it then, unless there's something I'm missing here?......

Just send the infrared command that corresponds to the correct input.

I found a partial solution to an unsolved problem reported on the Logitech forums, and though I'd post it here for review.

changes the input to TV

the problem is that it then changes the channel a few seconds later, to something that doesn't exist (for some it is channel 1.0, others 201, me it is 10.0)

Turns out harmony is using a discrete code to change to TV input. This works, but I think it is buggy.
So, change the method of changing inputs (have to select "other" when asked for an input) from "each input has its own button on my remote" to the third item, "one button brings up a list, then I press a button to cycle." I also had to edit the list of inputs - there was a second AV which I don't have, and was missing USB.

Now, when the tv is off and I hit "watch tv" the set turns on and stays on the channel it was before.
But the remote keeps getting confused about what input is current. I have to constantly hit "help" to get it to fix things.

This is my second Harmony (other is 880) and it is as I remember - difficult to program, and I can't possibly train anyone else in the house how to make it do what I want.
I'll try for a few more days, then decide if I should return the 650.

Has anyone used the Harmony 650 with an HDMI switcher?

Currently, I have my Harmony programmed to control Directv through HDMI input 1. I also have it programmed to control my bluray player through HDMI input 2. (Both plugged directly into the TV, I don't have a receiver in this room)

I am thinking about purchasing Apple TV, but I recently ran the wiring behind my wall, and really, really don't want to have to fish another HDMI wire through to plug it into my TV's HDMI input 3. My theoretical solution is to purchase an HDMI switcher, and plug in the bluray player and the Apple TV into the switcher.

Would I be able to program an activity as "Watch Apple TV" and the Harmony know how the inputs are supposed to work? Will the switcher automatically work with whichever device is turned on?

I really don't want to go the switcher route if I'm going to have to manually operate the switcher.

Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Seems like you'd want to look for an IR controlled switcher, then you'd add that device (I guess if you're not at 5 devices right now). There are also auto switchers, but I'm not sure how well they work.

Seems like it'd be better for you, since you wouldn't need a double female adapter as well.

The HDMI switcher would put me at 6 devices.

I hate it when devices are artificially broken by marketing departments.

An option you could try (say with the Monoprice switch shown above) is to use your TV device to "store" commands for the switch. You can do this by learning the IR commands from the swtich remote and then coding them into the activity start sequence to select the appropriate input device. Don't know for sure that this would work, but worth a try and you can always return the switch to Monprice if it doesn't.

Been there, done that... works just fine.

The only caveat is that the remote will not state-track the switch's current input. If the switch has discrete input selection commands (as opposed to a continuous wrap-around), that should not matter.

Hi. I was wondering what the difference between the 650 and the 650i?

I just got a 650.

While I can insert icons for my favourite channels, I can't do so for the commands... Is this how it's supposed to be?

On Logitech's website it claims "You can see icons for your favorite channels as well as the commands you need for the devices you’re using."

Am I missing something?

I think the 'icons' for the commands are just the text labels for each command (but you can edit the labels if you wish).

I had the 650 and sent it back c/o the CEO of the company in California. This has to be the most flawed CE product
to date. It took them a long time to created software compatible with Mac OS 10.8. I programmed it and other than turning on and off
components it did little else. Often I had to use the help function when one unit was on the wrong input or did not turn off.
Its been about 2 months since I sent the Remote back to them with a nasty letter.
i have not heard from them and I think I won't at this point.
This product is not for an CE consumer who is not a Geek.

I recently purchased the Harmony 650 for 2 rooms. In our living room, I have an LG TV, Apple TV, and Uverse STB. When I switch from Apple TV back to Uverse, the volume on the LG TV automatically goes to 0. So I have to get up and put the volume back up manually. Can someone advise me how to stop the LG TV from lowering the volume to 0 automatically?

Why is being a CE product particularly important? Sending the product back to the CEO....I'm sure he took note of your complaint I doubt his own staff gets much of his time and some package you sent is going to get his attention? What a maroon.

Typically CEO's are arrogant and see little reason to make changes...Sony is a prime example....losing billions but no changes to product lines etc.
I also emailed the tech support group twice subsequent to the return and recd. no reply.

I think if I were going to get a reply or an upgraded remote by now. They are just going to think...well we can't satisfy everyone and let it go at that.

I got the Harmony 650 and just finished setting it up. Everything works fine except for volume up, I set it so that it controls the volume on my Comcast box. So far all the other buttons work including volume down, its just up that doesn't. Any ideas?

I need a new Harmony remote for my secondary room. I'm thinking of getting a new 650 or refurbished 600.

 

First, what's with the current line-up? What happened to the low-end? Harmony One is gone and I don't care for the lack of real buttons on the Touch. I have no-power for a recharge cradle on coffee-table (if remote needs to stay in there all the time).

 

I really like my 670 that I use in the main home-theater room. I don't want anything much less than that.

- Monochrome/Backlit (easy on batteries).

- 15 devices

- Practically infinite "virtual Activity Buttons" using scrolling display

 

Do you think the 600 is better with battery life than 650 (since it's only Monochrome)? I use Sanyo Eneloops MiHM in my 670 and they seem to last for about 3 months (then I recharge over-night).

 

Does the 650 really only handle 5 devices? One room has 5 and other has 6 (unless I drop the seldom used VCR). Hate being so maxed-out/closed in.

 

I would appreciate any help on 600/650 or what you think I should do in general.

I have both a 600 and 650; for a while I tried to take the 650 between living and bed rooms and use the laptop to reconfigure, but that was a pain, so got one for each setup. 600 does 4, 650 does 5, 700 does 6, need to go up the ladder for 15. I don't notice a big difference in battery life, I don't really notice the battery life at all on the 600/650, when it needs fresh batteries I pop 'em in. I always have batteries around....

Thanks for the battery life comment. As long as it lasts 90 days (4 NiMH re-charges a year), I'll be happy.

The only thing that worries me on the 650 is the 5-device limit. I wonder, if with "learning feature" you can sneak-in a few commands from a 6th remote ... onto a device screen that is always on (like the TVs).

 

Anyway, after reading your reply (thanks again) ... I just ordered a new 650 from Amazon Prime. Should have some time to program-it-up this weekend.

Well, my 670 does 15 also ... and it's old.

 

So this is just a secondary (Workout Room) so I first tried to use the (pretty nice) TWC-DVR supplied URC-8700 Universal remote. But as we know ... even when you have this URC remote programmed perfectly for the system as a whole ... it doesn't come close to a Harmony. Mainly because of the missing Activities and there is no way to set TV and/or Amp to proper Inputs automatically.

 

Funny how the wife and I are spoiled now and concider a Harmony controlled system the minimum. Needless to say, to up-hold the WAF ... it was an easy sell.

Indeed you can. I have tweaked my 650 to control 7 devices this way. Not ideal, but it works.

For my new 650 ... am I suppose to use Harmony Desktop Software v7.7.0 (that I already have installed and use for the older 670)

or...

the MyHarmony web based software?

 

I think I have to setup a second account, either way, but which one is newer? Which one is better?

 

I thought all the remotes (except new Harmony Touch) used the same software.

As far as I'm aware only that really crappy low end Harmony used the special site/software and pretty sure that was called myharmony, all the others use the same software...I've got version 7 myself. If you want to retain settings for a particular remote then yes you want to establish a new user id/pw for another remote; I do that for my 600/650 as there's no option (or was) for separate models in the same account.
