I have used the various models of Logitech Harmony's for several years now and still get frustrated with the various software. Before I wouldn't pay much attention to people's frustrations in their Reviews, on line, (Amazon etc). But, recently, I'm beginning to understand their negativity about the product, which is actually quite good. Its the software and programming plus Logitech's "What, me care" attititude, that drives new users to distraction. The remote should be easily programmable, for the basic functions, by my 80 year old grandmother, not the complicated discrete codes or advanced programming, but the basic functions. Its not.
The new units come with little or no instructions. One has to scour the net for advice or ask questions on these Message Boards and hope that someone has the patience to explain and not shrug them off as idiots. My neighbour came to me trying to set up his Smart Control which had little or no instructions. It was easy for me but to a neophyte it was rocket science.
My Harmony on line has improved immensely. But it took long enough to do so. The 7.70 is now becoming rendundant but most users are familiar with that set up and are reluctant to change.
For the older models does Logitech even Care? The One, 900, 890 etc were all expensive units. Does MyHarmony support them? In all the FAQs Logitech still refers to the 7.70 set up, even for the 650, which is no longer supported by the 7.70 software. For Pete's sake update your FAQs. In my set up of the 650 in MyHarmony there was no way to allocate the hard button Activities. But most of the replies were "I never use it anyway". Well I do and if you want me to transition give instructions or complete the software. I finally achieved the hard button set up but it was by trial and error and after deleting several set ups. I had the patience. Many new buyers don't. They just move on to another product.
I understand the frustrations of new users and now begin to commiserate with them.
