Samsung PN42B400 (Refurbished) 42" Plasma TV
The Samsung 42'' 720p 600Hz Plasma HDTV offers high-definition 720p resolution along with 600Hz subfield motion technology to make onscreen action look smooth and natural. Picture quality is superb with a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000 to 1 and a response time of just .001 milliseconds. The built-in ATSC tuner receives the new digital channels, including HDTV broadcasts where they are available. Two HDMI ports and a variety of other connections enable you to hook up audio and video components to this Samsung HDTV.

Samsung LN40B500 (Refurbished) 40" LCD TV
Give the gift of HD excitement and stunning picture quality - with the Samsung LN40B500. A large 40" LCD screen lets you enjoy big, bold image detail with Full HD 1080p resolution. An amazing 40,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio offers the purest whites and deepest black tones. Every sound comes alive with SRS TruSurround HD audio. And two HDMI inputs make it easy to hook up all your peripherals such as Blu-ray Disc players and Home Theater systems.

Both are the same price. Leaning towards the Plasma. Mainly used for PS3. Thanks guys

if you are doing PS3, definetely plasma. little to no lag, great native blacks and less motion blur than an LCD, and that's without any software running to smoothe things out.

Only based on my unlucky experience with Samsung, I'd avoid the Series 5 LCDs. True it's 1080p but at 40" you may not notice, and the plasma will be nice for gaming.
