I think you'll find the "it just works" nature of Mezzmo worth the price of admission. The Samsung software is really lacking IMHO.

Agree totally - since moving to Mezzmo its performed superior to any other server software I've tried. I'm hopeful they will be releasing new version very soon that fixes a few minor things and increases flexibility of the playlists.

Just make sure you email support for the latest profile for your device (I know I worked with them on changes to the Samsung BDP and HT profiles) and that the correct profile is assigned to your device.

Also if you make local changes to the profile that improve it send it back to them so everyone benefits.

Last I saw on their forum they found out the problem with the restriction permissions and were hoping to have them in the update due this week. Playlists additions probably only in future update.

Initially I was using PC to TV but now I'm streaming to 6 different players and needed something bit more flexible.

Its funny, every now and then I'd see a post about how great mezzmo was and thought was just spammers as usually they had 1 post. But gotta admit not much I don't like about it.

Now just trying to sort out a consistent remote solution so don't have 3+ remotes at each place and wife & kids know how to use it.

When you have extra time just give the trial a workout. I'll give you a hint as well. The trial appears to be valid for 15 days of full-option use with nothing being gimped. After the 15 days is over, you'll have the option to extend the trial for another 15 days. So you can actually get 30 days of full use out of it. Don't tell anybody though, it will be our AVSForum "secret".

I hope everyone who ventures into this thread has a very happy holiday season.

Yippeee - Permission appears to be fixed!

Also something not mentioned is that with most servers I've tried (except PCSM) the Navigation has been Videos --> Videos --> then your file structure.

This was the case with Mezzmo and the Samsung BDP profile but with the Samsug HT profile it was like PCSM i.e. Videos --> then your file structure. I flagged this to them and its corrected in latest Samsung BDP profile.

Is there some advantage you get from All-Share or Mezzmo compared to the Windows Media Server built-in to WMP 11 when it comes to accessing PC music files through a Samsung Blu-Ray player or TV?

I've never used WMS but I understand does not support all the video containers and codecs. Might not be any problem for music.
I follow this thread and I still have some lingering misc questions about All-share with Win-7 and also with Mezzmo. I'm generally happy and satisfied streaming even 1080p from my PC to Samsung BRp (or Samsung TV) using Win-7 through a cat5 connection.

1) Of those of you who've experienced occasional lip sync issues, the kind that sometimes comes and goes while watching through Win-7, has that issue gone away when you switch to Mezzmo? Have you noticed any difference?

2) Are there any circumstances when you turn transcoding ON with Mezzmo? When?

3) For those, like me, still using Win 7 to serve, have you found any good tweaks or tips to improve allshare? Have you found anything that lets the Samsung play .mkv files without changing the name to .avi

4) When I change the file name from .mkv to .avi, does that affect the quality of the video? does it remove any trickplay or other features?

Thanks and happy holidays to all of you!

I used to from time to time get lip synch issues when using PCSM but these stopped after a recent player firmaware upgrade. I've not had issues when using Mezzmo - never used Win-7

I have it switched off, if the file is not natively supported by the Samsung BDP I recode it to something that is supported (very rare I need to do that)

Well Christmas is finally here so the boxes are open and I can now try this stuff first hand... so far not much luck. My files are on a DNS-321 which has a built-in UPnP AV server. I'm not using Allshare or Mezzmo but the BDC5500 can see the files fine. The BDC5500 firmware is at the latest revision. It can't play the AVI files (unsupported file format). I ran MediaInfo and its output is pasted below... Unfortunately, this is still greek to me... As far as I can tell the AVI parameters are within the specs listed in the manual. Can anyone here help me make sense of this?

My brother just bought a BD-C6300T for my mother. Fancy looking, but seriously this thing is a joke. Why would you need to install Samsung's Allshare just to browse files on a computer? It needs the ability to browse network file share folders. On top if this I found out it only plays two of my 150 plus movies on my NAS.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but I think it's a piece of junk. Forgive me, I have a Dune Player which plays anything I throw at it, it's much simpler, easier to browse etc. I don't like this Samsung player aside from the fact that it looks nice.

On the bright side Twonky Media Server works with it.

I agree abillionity percent, the whole DLNA thing is such a hassle. XBMC on my xbox did is much better back in the day, if only it was fast enough to play high def. I've heard LG players can browse regular (winxp/smb) shares just fine (but haven't tried myself).

thank you for all of the info in here.

I recently purchased a Samsung BD-C6500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player in order to view video files currently housed on my computer. I'm still waiting for it to arrive, but I wanted to see how exactly this is going to work for me.

It looks like mezzmo is the best option for streaming content from the PC to the player, and i will certainly look into that. However, I see that playing files from an external hard drive plugged directly into the player's USB is an option. Will this work well with a Western Digital 1.5 TB external drive? Do i need to have it formatted as FAT 32 or something of the like, or will NTFS work?

Assuming this works, does it do a better or worse job than the streaming options?

Note: I view files on a Samsung TV, but I am going to go out on a limb and say your player will be similar.

You can have it formatted as FAT32 or NTFS. NTFS is a much better option as then you can store large files on it for viewing. Playing something directly connected will always be the "best" experience as far as speed goes. Depending on what you are trying to play (file/size/bitrate/container) streaming might be fine for you as well. The only downside is having to take your external back to your PC to load files onto it. During TV season that could get very annoying and streaming comes in nicely.

Give the Mezzmo trial a go before you do anything else, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Hopefully BritinVA can chime in as I know he uses a Samsung BD player for his files.

good luck

The thing I like about using a server like mezzmo is how you can structure the files using playlists..... I would think using direct attached HD's your going to be restricted to how you have structured the folders but I'm not 100% on that.

Also by streaming from a PC you can view the files on multiple players (I now have 6).
I was wondering if anybody can help me.

I'm having a lot of problems with connectivity.

Every time I try to play a video or music file through either PCSM or Mezzmo I constantly get the message "device disconnected". It is only happening with my BD C6500.

I run a hard wired connection to my 46C630 and their is no problems there. Can stream any files without any difficulties.

I have wireless connection to my BD C6500 (have 2 of those) and connections constantly drops every time I try to stream something from my PC (run Windows 7). I checked the wireless connection and it is fine (pass network test easily). No problem there, no problems with firewall either, updated latest firmware, run the latest version of either PCSM or Mezzmo and still the same. Tried with rebooting, powering cycle, setup factory reset and still nothing. Connection keeps dropping after few minutes. No problem running any of internet widgets through BD C6500 but any streaming through my PC is getting me nowhere.

I'm using 2Wire 3800HGV-B Gateway.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

^^^ Sorry have no experience with running these over wireless but one of the things you might want to check is what channel is being used by your gateway (if possible) and if there are any clashes with nearby neighbors. The only channels that don't overlap with others are 1,6 & 11. If you have neighbors with WiFi see what channels they are using and steer clear of those with strongest signals e.g. If your strongest neighbors are using 6 to 11 go with channel 1.

Some WiFi clients will show the channel if not there are free WiFi sniffers you can download.

Personally I'd use wired if at all possible. Too many things seems to impact WiFi.

Good Luck.
I resolved the issue.

I determined that the default security protocol on my 2wire modem was WPA. The error message on blue ray player said that it did not accept this protocal. It accepts WEP so I logged on to the http/ address located on the side of the modem. The logon password is also located on the side of the modem.
I changed the security protocol from WPA to WEP, and the problem was solved. I also had to change the security settings on all of the computers in my home in order to get internet accesss.

It works flawlessly now. Pretty good player.

Hello everybody,

From some time now I've been using my Samsung LE40C550 to stream movies from my PC via Samsung PC share manager. Up to this point everything worked fine but I've encountered a *.mkv file that just won't open. On my pc the file works fine so I'm sure that it isn't damaged. Every *.mkv file till now worked perfectly. What can be wrong ? are there some *.mkv files that are supported and other *.mkv that are not? Is it possible that using mezzmo instead of PCSM would resolve this problem?

My tv is plugged to a wifi router. My current system version: 2010/09/03_002005 I' tried to update it but it says that no updates are available (menu/diagnosis/system update)
PC share manager runs on hp pavilion with WIN7.

Ps. If ever Samsung releases any codec update it will be in menu/diagnosis/system update?

thanks in advance

I hear that Mezzmo will resolve that, but I haven't personally made the investment yet. I've resolved it in Windows 7 by simply renaming the file type from .mkv to .avi. I then often need to reboot my pc.

Run MediaIfo and see what video/audio codecs are in the MKV container.

I cannot see Samsung making any changes that are not bug fixes or Bluray Disc playback issues - look what happened when they improved Nettflix and introduced a bug on 4:3 content....... the hounds were at their throats.
