Any subwoofer plate amp should have a built in high pass filter.

Good to know. Is there a way of knowing the highpass frequency of each plate amp, and modifying them if needed? Most plate amps I have looked at doesn't spec if there is a highpass and what it's at.

The Foster amp has a third order 29Hz high pass. Jhidley has full instructions on his website for modifying this filter. Many plate amps do not have high pass filters at all. The only way to know is by reading the specs for them.

Thanks, tsloms! This is what I assumed as many specs (Dayton and Oaudio) did not state any high pass filter. It is my understanding that I would have to purchase a separate EQ or DSP if I went this route. Thanks in advance!



What amp do you guys recommend to run two of these 6.5" Exodus Anarchy's off of? Should I purchase 2 of Jack's NHT amps? And, if so, should I get the modified 20Hz highpass version, or buy the standard 29Hz version and modify the Resistors myself? I am pretty proficient in soldering even on small pcb boards if this is the case.

One of the Foster amps per sub would be perfect. I would stick with the standard 29hz high pass. The 20hz high pass will be a bit low and put the Anarchy into overexcursion below 25hz at full power. The 29hz high pass will allow use of the full power of the amp.

Is this referring to WAF? Cuz I'm single and of all the tapped horns, this seems to be the smallest and have the highest WAF

No, I think they are referring to the infamous 'brown note'

They may be small, but they can play loud when needed. With two of them you should be able to shake the room.

I've had good luck with the refurbished Bostitch ones I picked up, as well as my old Craftsman (had that one forever...) and the Hitachi brad nailers I have.

As far as compressors? Are you just gonna shoot nails with it - if so - a little one will work great. If you're going to do anything else (impact wrenches or other air tools) a larger compressor makes sense. I have a little one (part of that Bostitch refurb compressor and nailer kit) that I use as a portable source for shooting nails, hanging trim and stuff, as well as a larger one that I use in the shop.

Get them done, put them in the corner, and turn them loose.

You'll find out.

Okay , I have the enclosure built. Missed the sale on the Anarchy 6 1/2"...Need to know exactly which 6 1/2" Tang Band to use as a drop in replacement. ? Thanks , can't wait to use this in the bedroom setup.

Seriously - you posted while I was online....

Just plugged up my second one 20 mins ago and had to rush over to here to tell you guys how AWESOME these sound!

I'm using the tang bands and Jack's Foster plate amp along with 1/2" MDF.

Whats so impressive to me about these is how clean the bass sounds....nice, deep, rich bass, not the muddy stuff that I'm used to hearing at my friends places that distracts from music/movies.

This is my first speaker build of any kind. I don't have much experience with good home theatre subwoofers. I have 3 friends who I can compare these to and these easily, no questions asked, have a better, cleaner bass sound.....just like a high quality movie theatre bass, maybe better!

Just want to say thanks to Lilmike and Radman12 for this great design and inspiration! I can't wait to get these veneered up and start on the next 2!

Guys I'm going to be meeting with a CNC guy on Tuesday to get these cabinets cut for cheap. They're price is about $70, including all grooves, pilot holes, and dado cuts.

I had a few questions though.

#1. Should I have them cut out an access panel for the driver? I thought it could be on the side and just big enough to get the driver in. Any ideas what size is needed? Or should we not worry about cutting one at all? Seems like a tight squeeze getting the screws in anyway.

#2. Terminals. What should I have them cut out? A small hole for a terminal plate, or should they just drill 2 holes for the tap in style binding posts? And where? Maybe on the access panel?

#3. Should they drill holes for threaded inserts to mount the driver? Does the Anarchy have the same hole spacing as the Tang Band?

I wouldn't worry about the mounting holes. Just get the driver cutouts, any self tapping screw will take care of that.

I won't be buying any flat packs, since I have all my own tools for cutting wood (except CNC). But I'll toss my opinions out.

I'm not sure there's enough room on the side for an access panel, it might need to go directly behind the driver. But if the hole's too wide, the surrounding 1/2" birch might be a bit fragile.

True, but as soon as you do you will have someone that wants it setup differently or ???
