10 Yr Old StudioTek 130 Vs StudioTek 130 G3?

I have a StudioTek 130 screen that is around 10 years old. I'm interested in finding out if the newer G3 version of the StudioTek 130 would make any real difference with my JVC-RS15 projector especially with standard definition DVD's?

Thank you.

There is no humanly way possible to tell the difference from normal viewing distances.

you might be able to tell with the projector off, a magnifying glass and looking at the screen surface from 2 inches away. but only with a side by side comparison.

Interesting.

I had a Stewart dealer tell me the "G3 is designed for modern digital projector use and that there was quite difference in performance, very worthwhile upgrade" etc.

I'm having issues with my new JVC-RS15 and old StudioTek130 not being as sharp/focused with SD DVD material as it was with my prior old Sony VPL-VW10 HT LCD projector and Stewart Grayhawk screen combination. Trying to figure out why.

Thank you.

ahh salesmen

whatever the difference in cost to get the new screen can likely make big differences if you focus that money somewhere else in the theater. getting a new version of the same thing will not. Now if you got a High Power (completely different screen material) I'd say yes you will notice a big difference.

I have heard and read about there is a difference. Stewart screens do have a chemical coating on them from what I've been told.

From what I understand and this is just what I have read over in the Stewart screen thread is that the G3 material was reformulated to reduce the "sparkles" that some folks were seeing with the newer higher light output 1080p projectors. There was apparently some interplay between fixed pixel 1080p projectors, their light output, and smaller screen sizes with the G1 fabric. So if you see sparkles in bright areas that is the weakness with the G1 fabric. I am not sure why a screen would have any impact on the sharpness of standard DVD material given theirrelatively low res. I am with Tryg on this one and the sales person.
