I downloaded easy tag but im dissapointed =/ the automatic and manual search for tracks never founds anything, just song by ultra popular people like britney spears =/ , i even tried changing the server and still had no luck =/ , besides it seems like it does not work with flacs, i tagged some files manually but when i play them in banshee i still have the wrong tags =/

Amarok has worked well for me in the past. You can manually edit tags that it can't find (e.g., a Grateful Dead show), but IIRC it was able to properly identify most everything that I threw at it.

I use a program called mp3tag. I tagged over 10,000 songs with it, and it worked quite well.

I have used and like 'Audio Tag Tool' by Pedro Lopes:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tagtool/

It's available packaged up in the Mandriva repositories (package name: 'tagtool'), dunno about *buntu.

Damn this is so annoying , banshee and amarok found the covers to the album but they dont save them to the files, when i play them on any other player the covers are GONE =/ , for example Banshee finds the covers for my albums but then i play them with amarok and the covers are nowhere to be seen =/

Are you using amarok to transfer to the ipod? http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Media_Device:IPod

I've used EasyTag with a lot of success. It has a lot of batch processing functionality.

And how do i do with the covers? god i miss itunes =/

Batch processing = being able to process file names, tags, etc. over many directories at once. I believe that it has the ability to automatically download coverart, but I prefer to select good, high-res pics myself, so I can't talk to it from personal experience.

Is there a way to configure the size of the covers easy tag/banshee/amarok download? quite a few times they download low res covers =/

Nevermind, i found out they fetch the covers but cant write the metadata to the files , what programm do you recommend that automatically find the missing covers and write the metadata to the files? i have like 80 gb of music, so imagine how painful it would be to manually put the covers =/
