21" Maelstrom Curved Box Build - Page 25

"Ricci measured..."

those are 2 meter measurements, so add 6db if comparing to winisd which is 1 meter model. then add 6db for two subs and power.

Yeah, it works out to a little over a 1db more for the 21 vs two SVS13's....which seems like a wash, which certainly doesn't seem like the SVS should be doing a "much better job"

possibly the low bass may be MIA if there's no EQ

But, I have to say that I'm surprised it doesn't dig deep enough for HT? I'd love to see measurements

Let me also say that I now have two of these drivers, and they dig pretty deep. I am only running ~300 watts to each driver, but my enclosures are about 15 cu. ft. each.

The EQ'd measurements are post 619 on page 21.

It is reaching lower than I thought. I just know that some points in a movie will cause the sub to make terrible sounds. It could be because I have no filter for the really low signals. 7 cubic ft is a small enclosure for this driver. I don't worry about it because i built it for music. As well, I also built it as a piece of art and have it sitting in my living room instead of hidden in the dark home theatre.

I wouldn't be able to eq it flat to 10 hz, it would demand way too much of the amp, which is an ep4000. Not to mention rew only eq's down to 20hz. I'm not concerned about going lower any way. I built this sub to be dedicated to music. I'm building a basement home theater this winter and my dual PB13's will handle the movie duties.

It's making terrible sounds because that amp is way-insufficient, even bridged.
However 1 ch of an FP14k would be more-than sufficient, but no less.

I used to run my 21's on EP4k's, and then I switched them to clones. I'd never go back. Difference is night and day.

If I recall correctly it took about 9db more gain below 20hz to get the same response as my LMS 18's does in the same sized box.

I hadn't even considered that the sub might be under powered by the EP4k. It would make sense that the gain in the lower regions could cause it to clip. I might have to investigate this FP14k you speak of; I haven't even looked at alternatives before.

Here's the first excursion vid I've made of my 21's powered by a clone, at half-power.
At full power, it would rip this driver apart. As you can see.

I still have my 21" Maelstrom, and I'm looking for a second one (or that new IS 24") to add some pressure to the room.

Where does one purchase a clone from? Are there any other, more reliable, but still inexpensive options out there?

not sure if this is something that you are looking for:

Sorry, I was tired and should elucidated.

I was talking about that 14000 amp. I've heard of the clone amps, but I've never seen one for sale anywhere.
